For Money Trees I'd say its a combination of things. It is one of the best hip hop songs encapsulating an infectious hook, a brilliant performance and lyrical rapping from kendrick and an all-time incredible feature. So its definitely on playlists of all hip hop fans. But apart from that the main reason for such a large number of listens is the sound. The beat mixed with anna wise and kendricks voice is such an infectious feel good sound which makes it have such a huge following on tiktok and short videos. Even for people who arent into rap much.
The phrase Halle Berry or hallelujah even made it into Kendricks verse, also the reference as juggling both coasts. from Fuckin Problems with ASAP Rocky, and Drake. The verse talks more Good Kid inspired with Kendrick's personality similar to how he portrays himself on Good Kidd
For me the best rap songs of all time is good politics, flow, kendrick also showed he can sing and create a dope hook at the same time, chorus background was at perfection, beat was insane with funk and random piano keys being pressed, just art.
Yess!!! I'm so glad you guys chose this as the first album to listen too. Fun fact without any spoilers. Every kendrick lamar project has a conceptual idea behind it beyond just the content within it. His "section 80'" Album is presented to the audience as a book as some of the tracks within are titled in chapters. "Good kid m.a.a.d city" is presented to the audience as a short film. "To pimp a butterfly" is presented to the audience as a poem. That album got him. His later then "Damn" album is presented as a magazine. And his newest release thus far "Mr morale and the big steppers " is portrayed to the audiance as a play.
Money Trees was already really popular and a lot of peoples favorite Kendrick song (including me) but it grew in popularity since Anna Wise’s part became a really popular TikTok sound about a year ago
Money Trees is a single without being single. Its a deep cut so good, that you hear it in DJs play it at bars and clubs to this day in their sets. and plus most people have it in a playlist or fuck with it, resonating to any young millennial figuring out life. Its the comeup song, but has the nuance to show the struggle it took to get there, and the fragility of life vs getting money, but that is the thought of living the best life. Success. For good kids, and just in a party atmosphere it works for both. Like Swimming Pools, Poetic Justice, Madd City, and Bitch Kill my Vibe.
really love the honesty on how molly reacts to these great albums, as well as never staying on the surface of the lyrics and always going deep! Great stuff guys!
Hit-Boy who made the beat, and was Ye's beat protoge. He has 6 amazing current albums with Nas called Kings Disease, and the Magic series still going. Its an incredible runin hip hop still going.
I love your videos, it's so chill and allows me to have a different pov on some albums I already know to re-discover them on a different angle and to discover some I didn't know and also learning things about the albums I suggest to anyone to go listen the live version of "Money Trees" it's amazing, the song is even better, the work done on this version is really a masterpiece I still can't get over it still, i was lucky to see it live in Paris Accord Arena in October 2022 (you can see the replay on prime video and it was live on twitch), Kendrick live rearrangement are something. He is someone you have to see live even if you don't generally listen rap, just if love music and the show, he is delivring perfectly
Incredible reaction as always guys, GKMC is a album that even though i heard 100 times always feels like the first time watching a reaction, just like Illmatic i can never get enough. If i could recommend a couple more albuns i suggest a trip to Atlanta with "Aquemini" by Outkast to introduce Molly to that area and after that JID modern classic "The Forever Story". A random pick would be "Sometimes i might be introvert" by Little Simz. The way y'all are having natural conversations about the albuns is very unique and a pleasure to watch, thank you!
Loved the point you made at the end. He could easily put out mindless hits and top the charts but instead he chose to create meaningful art. Especially with to pimp a buttetfly
Jay rock is from Watts not from Compton and the Money trees is hot song because it feels old school and new school so everyone can really rock with it, the bridge is also fire 🔥
To me The Art of Peer Pressure is pure hip hop storytelling perfection. This album is one of the few that after the first listen I knew it was an instant classic.
Besides just being a good song, the reason “Money Trees” has such an unexpectedly high stream count is due to a TikTok trend that went viral around 1-2 years ago actually.
I randomly discovered this channel yesterday and I love your reactions! both of you have great analytical skills of lyrics and your input is very insightful even for me as a massive fan of Kendrick's work, will keep watching for sure!
Would love to see y'all get to Kendricks other albums too, so much to dig into. Whatever you do though I'll be keeping an eye on it because the videos are awesome. Just watched this and atrocity exhibition. Reactions like this are a winning formula. The vet introducing and taking a new listener on the journey. Keep up the good work, and have fun!
The way she heard "Clams Casino" when "Swimming Pools" started playing is really real. Babydoll is solid. Smart, pretty, nice, and a great ear for music. Damn. Archie really did marry a certified Dime Piece. 👏🏿✊🏿
I feel like i never comment on youtube posts but I really love this channel and the music you are showing your wife. I always love reactions to music but seeing a husband show his wife one of his hobbies/interests and seeing how into your interest and open she is to it all is awesome. really love the uploads keep them coming!
TikTok. That's the reason Money Trees blew back up. I really wish that I could say that it's because the song is amazing, but in all reality, it's because it was in a tiktok trend. It did cause a lot of people to rediscover the song and stream it
Money Trees is top 3 favourite songs of all time. I didn't like it that much when it originally came out but listened to it a lot around 2019 while smoking weed and I feel like i really dissected every small detail about and I truly appreciate it yet every now and again I'll hear something else or catch another punch line or double meaning and it's just the most beautiful piece of art man
Thanks for another vid! Love the reactions but im really starting to like the comments and backround info you give after the songs too! Actually didnt know some stuff like gaga going to be on a song lol
Money Trees was massive on tiktok for that hook with (who i think it was) anna wise singing. Not sure how it became a massive hit on spotify, but it just did after those videos im pretty sure
BTW the reason why Money Trees has a Billiion plays is because of a recent TikTok trend which has a sped up version of the song 💀. It wasn't the most streamed song prior to that. iirc it was a tie between Poetic Justice and Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe.
The flower in a dark room also could reference "The Rose That Grew From The Concrete" a lesser know Tupac mixtape one of Kendricks biggest inspirations
Money Trees is a classic for my generation (28-32). It’s not the most sonically pleasing song on the album but that “ya bish” phrase became very popular after the song, and in general it was a good song for a college party setting
Dude ive heard this album like 4 times i even heard it today and ur breaking it down for her ao well im even learning new things. I didn't wvn know kendrick got jumped. Or thay he good kid is one if the better lyrical songs on the album. Or that sherane set him up this is dope
The biggest reason people miss in terms of Money Trees popularity is the Beach House sample, they caught a wave from this song and got even more popular, also leading Beach House listeners to Kendrick
If you’ve ever seen Kendrick live, when “Money Trees” comes on the whole stadium goes nuts. Definitely not his most lyrical offer but catchiness and creating an “anthem” cannot be quantified by lyrics alone. Beat example is Tupac. His best/biggest songs, according to his constant listeners, are ones that never got radio play. Everybody sings California Love. But Toss It Up, Blasphemy, Hail Mary, Fuck The World, Ain’t No Fun, etc are considered his best songs by the elitist fans.
I love this album! I also think you need to listen to Collect Calls by Kendrick as well. It was only release on the extended deluxe version of Good Kid M.A.A.D City and now can only be found on RUclips. It’s a great alternative ending to this album!
Still making my way through this! But thought I’d mention, the recognition of Clam Casino, only feels right we check out A$AP Rocky as well. They really experimented on those first few albums to revolution a new sound wave during the 2010s 36:04 Fire reaction 🔥
To me, money trees was the shit because of the beat but mainly because jay rock was EATING on this. Tied it together perfectly. And the dollar might turn to a million and we all rich line. Very similar to the gold mines in these lines bar, gold minds turn to gold mines. -brain - I love gold bars
Swimming Pools went up at the time, the irony was heavy. People were blasting that song at parties getting drunk, a lot of people don't pay attention to lyrics.
hey we're sorry about that. we have them turned on but they're only activated for some videos for some reason. we will look into it more and let you know. obrigado 🙌🏼

Kendrick has also said recently (kinda) that money trees is his favorite song he's ever made, and the songs listens also shot up after that

I still don't get it either. It doesn't stand out to me...but ok.
@@jayc5756 was huge on tiktok so definitely increased the views by a lot
Swimming Pools was a big song at parties so he probably made it a single knowing people would care more about how it sounds than what he's saying.
