- This is my 1970 Kenmore 900 Series Washer doing the Permanent Press Cycle. Notice it does a series of two cooldowns in which it does a partial drain and agitation/fill. Other nice features of this machine are the automatic detergent dispenser at the start of the cycle as well as automatic softener/bleach dispensing throughout out any cycle. The agitator is also adjustable from vigorous to gentle settings (more on the gentle side for this wash). This is an excellent and very flexible machine. Hope you enjoy the video!
Those were excellent machines, I've rebuilt and sold dozens of them over the years, and every customer was more than happy to have it.
My 2006 Frigidaire Gallery W/D set are of large capacity and of excellent machinery and no hyped up hi-tech frills and both work superbly today as when I bought them 12yrs ago. I hope that I can post my video of my set still working after 20+ years.
;-)
This washer is by far the best I have ever seen...looks like the one my grandmother had years ago. I would love to get my hands on one of these classics. By far they were the best ever made.
My grandparents had this exact model and matching dryer. It was so fancy and worked well. I used to stand and watch it wash and loved the smells and sounds.
This washer is crazy cool. My Grandma used to have a Lady K 800 with the same VeriFlex Agitator. Hers had the "woo-woo" constant sound during operation. You should do a Normal 14 load starting with an empty washer and then adding the clothes once operating to show fill-up and it's full speed operation, drain and spin. Also a shot of setting the knobs and the VeriFlex would be cool! What a cool washer! Wish I had one like it! Hold on to it...it is priceless!
No "woo-woo" sounds is exactly right. This is the ultra-quiet belt-drive design. My understanding is a different pulley and more narrow belt were used to reduce mechanical noise. It is an extremely quiet Kenmore.
I love the grind click whirrr! I always heard that noise from my 81 Kenmore when it went into spin.
I've had this machine for about 6 months I think. It is by far the heaviest machine I've ever moved.
My mom had the lady Kenmore from the 60s that machine had made the woo woo sound and had the roto swirl agitator. And the alphabet cycle . The wash N Wear cycle had the same feature water would drain partly and drain three or four times before the first spin cycle.
This machine is awesome hang on to it. I wash had one.😊
This is my favorite washer machine whit a lintfiter
My FAVORITE of washers are the belt-drive Whirlpool-Kenmores!
love this video, many thanks... great quality and fantastic washing machine, only wish I had one
Another awesome washing machine
It's very quiet. I can't wait to get started on mine!
@Compwhiz128 The cool down process was changed c.1976, when they Kenmore introduced both the black paneled washers and the dual-action agitator. It started with a high-speed drain for about 45 seconds before pausing, then fill with cold water at the next notch of the timer, and resume agiation at high speed instead of low. This process was not repeated. The spin speed would still be low.
I was wondering, do you still have your beautiful harvest gold 1970 Kenmore washing machine? If so, is it still up and working this year as of 2021? I also found that this Kenmore washer is a 900 series. I watch a video of a 1968 Kenmore 900 series, it was avocado green.
OH YEAH! The late 60s/early 70s Kenmore fill/agitate cycle.

I see that your lint filter works only in the first few minutes of the cycle. Does it shut off automatically, or did you shut it off by hand? BTW LOVE that orange piece you put in there!
Sorry if you thought I was disapointed with this washer I actualy think it's really cool especially how quiet the drain cycle is, and the unusual permanent press cycle, the nice agitator, and the control panel. I'm really not disapointed about the lack of woo-woo noises, I was actually amazed about it.
What you're referring to is actually the detergent dispenser. It does only recirculate for a couple of minutes.
Hey Jon - this thing have the Quiet Pack - sounds pretty good!

@Gaygarious You pull up on the center of it and rotate it to Hi, Lo or anything inbetween. It extends or retracts the bottom vanes of the agitator to suit how vigorous or gentle you want the washing action to be.
The water fall amazing neat
You need to post a full video cycle of that Lady!
it is about time i ask this question since i had it since way back when i was a kid and i discovered the brand lady kenmore exists
was lady kenmore a sub-brand of kenmore?
The bleach dispenser releases when 4 minutes are remaining in the wash cycle. Softener is released into the outer tub immediately after the first spin is complete.
Jons 1077 you have a great video
great video... hope you can do some more!
I believe Kenmores have been made by Whirlpool in their entire existance.
Bardzo Fajna Pralka Pozdrawiam Serdecznie Z POLSKI 🇵🇱
i like this sears kenmore model, looks strong...how long u had it??
this family of whirlpool washers was rugged and washed well but lacked suspension and spin speed
These had a suspension. What are you talking about ?
Did you know that old kenmores were whirlpool washers back then?
what is that knocking sound? That knocking is not normal, My 72 LK does not have that knocking sound on agitate, only the slight hum of the motor running
I never heard a grind click clunk sound that long before
i would like to have this with matching dryer for a trade on my late 90s whirlpools.
Wow, Kenmore machines during this era had a weird pernament press cycle, they drain the machine almost out of water, and gently agitate and fill the machine back up with water...which is odd...I specifically recall as a kid a similar machine from similar era doing the same exact thing....
That is not the lint filter it is the detergent dispenser and the dteregent dispnser shuts off automatically during the last few minutes of the wash cycle. The lint filter in this model is self cleaning and it filters the water automatically during the wash AND rinse cycles.
Washed better, drained quicker, lasted longer, quieter and looked better - than any machine today ... that’s progress?
Very cool!
The Vari-Flex has 4 settings. This video I had it set to the second most gentle setting.
How does that agitator work? I see that there is a dial on it.
There are two new videos by revvinken demonstrating the adjustments of the Vari-Flex agitator on his 1970 Kenmore, one with high water level and high speed, and the other with low water level and low speed.
To be honest, not very fast, but couldn't tell you exactly. This video shows the slow spin speed.
A message for jons1077...could you do a request and make a video of setting the controls and starting the wash cycle? I have nostolgic memories of my grandmother's old machine when I see this done.
I believe I used Tide powder.
That's a good one too!
How fast can it spin?
Love It>
Oh that comment was meant for Tuthill lol. in case there was any confusion.
Well, I gues that a good spin for a kenmore.
Other Than A Weak Tub Brake Machine Sounds Good
this machine is very cool. I keep hoping I find an old belt drive kenmore or whirlpool for sale in my area. I have a direct drive machine built by whirlpool and realy don't like it.
What type of soap di you use? Do you remember?
Why does knowing what brand of detergent someone used or what water temperature was used in a video turn people on so much???? This is just weird!
@@mm_xx8827 Why don't you just lay off and manner up?!
@@tvtimetravel Manner up? How is asking a question bad manners? So someone can ask you what water temperature you used but I can't ask why people ask this? So we're not allowed to ask a question or make a comment in the COMMENTS section? I was only wondering why SO MANY people ask about such a bizarre thing as to what water temperature or detergent brand was used in a demonstrational video when it has no bearing on anything.
@@mm_xx8827 It was your earlier "who cares" response that bothered me. You can expect some questions out of the ordinary, but I'd just let them be. Some people who post such questions me be "special needs" individuals. Peace please?
Heck, nowadays, they don't make ANYTHING like they used to!!!
Yah that's not exactly dirt. I scrubbed and scrubbed and it's just not going to come off that easily.
pretty quiet for a 1970s model
6:23 Grind, click, clunk!
No woo-woo noises?
What a gimmick! If you didn't like the length of the dasher vanes you could adjust them.
