wow heeled over there for a time 30-40 degrees on a reach.. cranking it! and I notice she clips a lifeline on when topside. good girl! and if things don't go her way she deals with it.
What can I say, at the time, this young woman was fearless and absolutely BAD ASS! Even though sailing was in her blood, what a gutsy thing to do! #guppyforever ⛵️
This girl shows some serious IQ. Since her tender seven years of age soaking up a lot of knowledge about navigation, boat design, engines, sails, weather systems, geography, telecommunications, swimming... And her social skills, the way she can get along with a lot of people from so different backgrounds, understand them, are notable...In her interviews she shows herself articulate, down to earth, the way she asseses situations and persons with a maturity far beyond her age is impressive. And yes she speaks at least three languages, plays guitar and flute, rides uncycles. And she's valiant and cute. I'm impressed
And to think how people in NL went bonkers over how "she should be in school". Same things that are being screamed about Greta Thunberg, these days. Apparently, kids need to be held back everywhere and always. Especially when those kids are girls. Notice that the flag on Guppy changed from the Dutch one to the one of New Zealand, in this video. I remember that there was stuff in the newspapers about that. Legal reasons of course, but if it was also meant as a one finger salute to the Dutch authorities, oh, yes, the message landed ;-)
Not from seven years of age, but from when she was born. She is a true "live-aboard". This is one of the very best sailing films I have seen, capturing very well the waves, wind and how the boat is sailed; photographs and videos often don't do justice to the power of the sea. Laura's mastery of seamanship, both externally and psychologically, looks outstanding. Her favourite perch (on the nav table) is perhaps unique, but gives her a perfect view of what is going on. I'm so glad that she now lives on such a superb new "Guppy" and further inspires young people.
Fantastic video, fantastic voyage. Made me smile many times. You love a bit of wind ! Your sense of humour and your emotions shine thru. Fantastic, well done & I am sure you will go on to great things Laura.
I remember hearing about your trip and the rough start with officials trying to stop you...now to see this trip from you and your boat....JUST INCREDIBLE!! It truly makes you wonder big time about your time on this planet....in such a good way...the boat just sailing in the middle of the ocean is soooo beautiful, even as small mountains of water surround you, you are amazing!
Hi,Laura!I have Seen your Video! What can i say? You and your Video are fantastic! You are a nice beautiful Young Woman with a big Soul!
Definitely the best of all your footages so far. As a matter of fact, the best sailingfilm I have ever seen. Lots of water, lots of sailing, winds and calms, and just the right amount of comments. Looking foreward to the next episode.
May the wind and waves always take you where you're heart is happy. Inspirational is not a big enough word to describe your spirit. I think you inspire neptune himself. Godspeed.
yes... this particular video is definitely ALL ABOUT SAILING! i really got it much better this time. the first time it challenged me because i was use to the more calm and fanciful atlantic and pacific crossings - especially the pacific one. it was nice to see you smiling so well in the midst of some of those really harsh looking waves. it really showed me how much this is really in your blood, the consciousness of how you are as a person. you are no fluke. you were really demonstrating a sense of unity in motion with the forces of the ocean. you are someone worthy of appreciation. it is obvious that you did not do this for fame... you did all of this to confirm within yourself just who it is that you are. thanks for allowing us to witness and appreciate your self validation.
Just getting around to seeing this! Thank you for sharing. Amazing to watch someone single hand a boat like this and on a trip like this. Then you realize the reality that the captain is a 15-16 year old. GREAT job!!!
I love the way that super tanker just disappeared behind the swells , for 20 seconds at a time , before reappearing. I know your secret to success ... No fear and just confidence. I wish I had more of that !
I have always loved just watching the waves go by .. usually on a good day of wind.. but other days too. It's exciting and sometime on calmer but good days it's hypnotic. I love it all .. but if the sails are up please have some wind to keep them full. Thank you for all your great long moments videoed showing the fun and might of the sea and yours and Guppys time with it.
I’m happy because I found these videos here on You Tube. I have watched the movie on Amazon a few times and of all the young sailors to attempt, or find success at a circumnavigation you really are my favorite. Much respect
"Long live sailing "....... Doldrums to racing along at warp speed🤪 My daughter used to play the recorder... I always kept a set of earplugs handy😆Love all your videos.... Stay well from🇺🇸
hay Laura, many thanks for sharing this video! 10:23 lol 12:30 yessssss, washing the reeling - very nice shots :-))) 48 Days on the sea is not easy - congrates laura. some years ago, i remember SV Delos in this aerea - the indian ocean can be sometimes a bad beast. my best regards from austria.
unexpectedly that one will go to the ocean, there are simply no words, you are clever, you can meet somewhere in the ocean, I have Bavaria 32, too, floating alone, God grant you health!
Respect respect. Long long way 48 days. Yes I could see you feel alone you speak in SSB radio. When you speak to your friends from other location what you feel? All the best. Tks for sharing this beautiful image.
Dear Laura, thank you very much for your videos, which I watch avidly!! I live in Switzerland and the sea is something alien to me. When I see the swells of the ocean in your videos, I honestly get quite scared! I don't know anything about sailing. I loved your documentary Maidentrip and because I felt so inspired by it.... I took a sailing lesson ... on the lake of Zurich! I love seeing the ocean and you filmed the videos in a way that I feel like I'm on the boat myself. Really lovely! When you say Guppy was knocked down...do you mean she capsized? Lots of love, Barbara
Hey Laura, the German family are Friends of mine. We were together in Richard Bay. We Met again later on the Azores. What a smal world. I used to sail a Catamaran, „Tanoa“.
Dear Michael, Yes a small world indeed. It was so nice of them to take me along. They are such a lovely family I did stay in touch with them after my circumnavigation as well.
i was looking forward to this video... but watching some of it made me feel a bit nervous for your safety at times. something about the wind seem harsher and seeing the mast at such a steep angle to the horizon at times. usually watching the waves and water go by in your videos seems more calming to me. anyway, THANKS for posting this! it was nice watching you in your cabin doing things. good for you to say goodbye to that Daniel. what a louse he turned out to be - to prefer a refrigerator to living with you in your world achieving Guppy? i cannot imagine that. best to you and THANKS for sharing.
best man... i'm reaklyproud of her almost like my own daugter... IT's just amazing and i can't even imagin what she show us in the future. there is just not enough wather for that girl
Did you sail straight through ? Many stop at Madagascar . It would be so hard to prepare for a knockdown. Everything flies and you can't be in the wrong place. You might need to put a strap on top of your books ? And you fly ! The channel Delos had the biggest storm I've seen, so far, in the Indian. Your "hydrovane" (I realize there are different brands) is a life saver, I'll definitely have one . I'm wondering if I can have a auto pilot and hydrovane on the boat, disengage one to use the other ? There are some crazy reefs and poor charts for that ocean.
wow heeled over there for a time 30-40 degrees on a reach.. cranking it! and I notice she clips a lifeline on when topside. good girl! and if things don't go her way she deals with it.
You are absolutely a amazing young woman who gave me strength to keep going after I lost my hand
What can I say, at the time, this young woman was fearless and absolutely BAD ASS! Even though sailing was in her blood, what a gutsy thing to do! #guppyforever ⛵️
Gorgeous ocean. Thanks for providing such wonderful videos. Smart girl!
That was a long stretch! Good job! Watching from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 😊🎉
This young lady has more gusts, perseverance than you you see in many sailing teams! incredible!
nice job ! :) Fun Stuff For This Old boy To See .
So sad and a huge loss that Guppy is gone. What a great boat she was.
Nice video! There are so many interesting and important things with right words! 👍

Not much fun in those calms with swells! Still at least Guppy didn’t sink! Glad that crew were safe.

I would worry about something going wrong with the boat. But she knew how to pick a good boat.
Super gaaf! Blijf je solo zeilavonturen ook nu nog delen!
