The Imperial Durbar at Delhi in 1911 - A film produced to celebrate the coronation of George V as King-Emperor at the Imperial Durbar of 1911.
Viceroy Lord Hardinge was instructed after the coronation of George V in June 1911 to organise an Indian equivalent to pageantries in Britain. The chosen model of an ‘Imperial Durbar’ was an old one. Previous shows of Indian obeisance before a representative of the Crown had occurred in 1877 and 1903 after Victoria and Edward VII were declared Empress and Emperor of India. The ceremonies organized by Hardinge at Delhi from 7th to 16th December 1911 operated within this invented tradition.
The Durbar was used to contrast British modernity with Indian tradition. Europeans at the Durbar were instructed to dress in contemporary styles even when celebrating an older British Imperial past (as with the ‘Mutiny’ veterans). Indians, however, were to wear Oriental costumes as motifs of their otherness. The construction of this exaggerated sense of Imperial order at the Durbar was significant. The event was used to declare New Delhi as the new capital of British India. Delhi was chosen as a refuge from the nationalist sentiment that had gripped the old capital of Calcutta. The Durbar was a show of Imperial continuity by an increasingly anxious Empire.

This darbar was actually an open humiliation of indians as nawabs, rajas of indian states bowed before the white looters king.
One fact, the british invited Peer Sahab of Golra Shareef to this darbar and arranged a special train for him but Peer Sahab plainly refused to attend this humiliation ceremony.
The british afterwards wanted to take revenge for this refusal but WW1 ensued and british could not materialize their revenge plan.

The Delhi Durbar are of pomp and pageantry. This was to remind the Maharajahs of India to be subservient to the British Crown. The Maharajahs bestowed jewels and diamonds as a gift to the Emperor and Empress on this event. The Bhutan and Sikkim Maharajahs shows servant attitude by taking off their hats and bowing to the royal couple. It is also well documented that the all these Maharajahs were given token numbers and were placed on line to meet the Emperor as per their ranks and cannon salutes. They were asked to arrive in Delhi a week in advance for the rehearsals. Many of these Maharajahs had to bring their own tent city to stay during their visit in the gardens of Delhi while the Emperor stated at Viceroy Palace. The foreign dignitaries were placed on special residences. The Nepal Maharaja Chandra Shumshere Rana was placed a foreign dignitary and a head of State and was given a state welcome on this visit. Nepal was not a part of the empire and hence was a sovereign state and its Maharajah was placed on same level as King Edward on the State Banquet hall in honor of the British Emperor.

The 1857 mutiny was almost successful, it was the sheer numbers of Sepoy's who were used against the much smaller and inferior freedom fighters. Sad indeed.

This "Durbar"was held from 7 December to 16 December 1911, with the Durbar itself occurring on Tuesday, 12 December 1911. Would not it be better if you changed the year in the title of this video ?? (It was the year 1911 and not 1912).
@Ranjit Tyagi Thank you very much for replying. I did my Master's Degree in Indian History. But it was in the Medieval History of India, it did not cover the English period. Other papers included European History, American History also. The information I submitted for your kind consideration is very much available on Internet / Wikipedia. My point was simply to bring to your kind notice that the video is titled as "Delhi Durbar (1912)" while the Durbar pictured in the video belongs to the year 1911. My idea was only that it should be changed to "Delhi Durbar (1911)". No pouring of any great knowledge ("Gyaan") was intended. I apologize if it looked like any affront.

Very sad part of our (Pakistani and Indians) history. Its very regretful to see our Nawabs bowing before the occupying king. Why they didn't fight till death instead of sacrificing their honor and the pride of Indian nation (These so called leftover nawabs after 1857 were actually traitors who sold their nation to goras and were puppets of goras - to hell with such nawabs. The actual heroes were those who sacrificed their lives in 1857 instead of sacrificing their honor). Today in 2021: Pakistan and Indian armed forces together can make UK as their colony for another 100 years. Dr. Tharoor lecrures opened uncovered parts of history that is never taught at our educational institutions.
Indeed the combined might of the armed forces of India and Pakistan can overwhelm the British but then the Brits will just use nuke to counter such an existential threat. So in reality that is impossible with hundreds of millions dying.

Place Seems like Red Fort or the some maidan near Parliament building in delhi.
There was no parliament building then. Queen Mary has laid the foundation stone of Viceroy Building et al which eventually became the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Viceroy's House is what is today known as Rashtrapati bhawan.
The Durbar was held inside the Red Fort and the king and empress also sat facing towards the back side of Lal Qila where there was a huge field till a few years ago. This is the first video I have seen of Dilli Durbar.
MOBY Jones I believe this isn't in the red fort, it's in a place in Delhi called coronation grounds. Today the place is deserted, boasting only of the largest statue of George V in the world.

The Last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar was exiled to Rangoon because he supported the revolt of 1857. His sons were killed in front of him by the British. He died in Rangoon in 1862. His only last wish was that his body should be buried in his land, Hindustan. But the wish was never fulfilled by the British.
He could have made peace with British Raj and bow down to the King & Queen of Britain and lived his life in luxury like the Rajas and Begums in the video. But he chose to side with the people of his country. Even in his last days, he wrote poetry against the British Raj, here's a snippet of it:
"गाजियों में बू रहेगी जब तलक ईमान की,
तख्ते-लंदन तक चलेगी तेग हिन्दुस्तान की।"
_As long as there remains the scent of faith in the hearts of the valiant,_
_The sword of Hindustan shall flash from here till the throne of London._
