    Gamedle is fun, but I prefer "Guess the Game", where you guess a game from screenshots, getting hints like the publisher, year, and Metacritic score after each guess. Each puzzle is made by hand instead of auto-generated, so I think there's more quality to them. And you can go back and play each puzzle from the archive as well.
    That said, Gamedle is still fun, and I love the moments when you feel like you've pulled the game out of thin air (e.g. like what Jeff did with Overwatch 2).

    "Vogelperspektive" which literally translates to "bird view" is funnily enough a really common term in Germany to describe strategy games! Way more common than something like "isometric"

    • @mosquito271
      @mosquito271 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, other languages use various "bird perspective"-like phrases in this context as well. However non-native speakers (like the dev) might forget that the translation would most likely be "bird's EYE view" - a relatively common saying. Unlike "bird view" which.. is not

    • @kevboard
      @kevboard 9 месяцев назад +4

      also Isometric is often used incorrectly anyway. Isometric means the perspective has no vanishing point, but many games that have a normal Birdseye view with a vanishing point are often called isometric when they aren't

    • @TreesPlease42
      @TreesPlease42 9 месяцев назад

      Isometric is orthogonal like top-down is for strategy games, meaning it has no perspective or FOV @@kevboard

      @@TreesPlease42 aka, no vanishing point... like I said. but there are games with a vanishing point that get called isometric when they aren't.

    I think Jeff's confusion re: XCOM is that the first game was called "UFO: Enemy Unknown", then the series became "XCOM", then the first game was rebooted as "XCOM: Enemy Unknown." It's sequel is just "XCOM 2".

    This game is fun, but the constant bad data is annoying.
    I just got a round with Life is Strange: Before the Storm, which someone put the "Action" tag on.
    Databases that try to tag genres and themes are always so full of bizarre choices like this. I'm constantly wondering what the person entering the data was thinking.

    Opinion poll; Is it against the spirit of the game to look up release dates before guessing. Like you know it's a game from 2005 and you think you know it but don't remember if the game in question in 2005 or 2006.
    Although obviously it doesn't matter, there is an intended method to it. After all you could just get the daily answers from twitter or something and plug them in if you wanted to. I don't know why you would but the website doesn't care. It's not cheating.
    BUT do YOU think you have to do it 100% from memory? And if not where is your line.

    a lot of their classifications are fucking weird. Super Metroid being classified as "shooter" for example... l
    Overwatch 1 is categorised as Shooter Strategy, which is already wrong. and then Overwatch 2, which is basically the exact same game, suddenly isn't Strategy anymore and only is a shooter now.
    or how somehow Metroid Prime is supposedly on Wii U, which it simply isn't. the Wii version was downloadable on Wii U, but that doesn't make it a Wii U game. if that were the case then 90% of Xbox One and PS4 games would also be Series X|S and PS5 games.
    then Sonic The Hedgehog on Master System was clumped together with the MegaDrive Sonic, although they aren't the same game. meanwhile Day of the Tentacle remaster isn't seen as the same game as the original.
    there's a lot wrong here lol
