When I was a peace officer, when stuck working in the rain I used one of those clips to hold my poncho hood to the bill of my cap. It kept it in place, and the wind never blew it off.
LOL, I found out early in life the best band aid is electrical tape.
Great kit Randall. Whenever I deployed with Australian military, one of the first things to go in my trunk (foot locker) or kit bag was the Speedy Stitcher sewing awl. Bit bulky for field use, but when operating out of a FOB/Patrol Base is a great back-up that’s saved my a$$ many times.
I do also, but I made one out of a jeweler's vice and one of those needles, no need of a spool. It packs down to basically the size of a Bic lighter. And I've added a length of para -button tape.
I have one. It goes in the field with me. It works great! Knowing how to tie some knots and tie them around small stones in the corners of tarps works better than the original grommets after they tear loose. Usually when it matters most.
You might consider a small tube of "shoe gu" I've actually used to repair another hikers boot. Also, I've taken the curved, half moon needles and put them with a roll of dental floss. It's very strong yet pliable . just sone ideas. Be well.

Yup med bottles, got too many of those these day. You can get a rubber o ring to help water proof the bottles. I also love them clips I stole a bunch of them them work (I mean borrowed).
Fishing line works good too to repair gear.
Regarding the "hook and loop" (i.e. Velcro) material. It's good to have a small piece available. I recommend the sew-in type that has absolutely no adhesive backing on it. The adhesive is inferior and if you actually need the Velcro stuff to work where you put it, you are likely going to be disappointed. A few stitches will keep it in place better than the adhesive backing. Also, pulling a needle and thread through the adhesive is a nightmare after the first couple stitches when everything gets gummed up on both the needle and thread. Ask me how I know this....
I like the Kevlar cord , cost a little more but 25' of it is sometimes like having gold ! And gorilla tape is Wicked Awesome , BUT Randall already knows this fact and depending on what your repairing, having 25' of Annealed wire " bailing wire " is also World class ! Oh and the T-Rex tape is European alternative to Gorilla tape. I’m from Europe, so here don’t sell the gorilla tape, but the T-Rex tape.
Sadly, you don.t see kits like this nowadays, people just replace gear before they get the chance to trash them only because new "tacticool guccigear" is coming out every season. Great kit, an oldschool razor blade and a mini super glue tube could come in handy and it could easily fit in that tube :)
sweet. rubber band tip: cut some out of a worn out bicycle inner tube, that rubber is pretty tough and strong comparatively

Check out Tenacious Tape, though. This is great for clean looking repairs in gear...tents, tarps, clothes. You'll like it.

This is a damn awesome home made kit. I basically did all the same but then I bought something because of one feature that is hard to replicate, an awl. Sometimes you don't have something that you can use to, painlessly, punch a hole through material, but Exotac, with their Ripspool, created a device where you have a sail needle to stitch, or reverse it and put it in a butt cap so you can punch holes like an awl.
Those clips have been in my kit for years right off my jobs shelves into my kit 🤫
Mini tube of Shoe Goo: Priceless (and fits). Not for sniffering in a desperate situation, but for general repair. Used it so many times. Is also brilliant for firestarting.

Randall, what about a video on water? Most big outdoor channels push the idea that 1l of water per day is enough. For me this is crazy. I usually drink 3l on a day hike. Next thing is water containers. Nalgene bottle? Plastic canteen? Steel bottle? What about keeping water from freezing, keeping it cold? Boiling vs chemical purification. Your army experience is crucial for this subject. It would be a helpful video

Good vid idea. I feel the same way. Like a commenter said, " go out and do it, and you'll understand what you need". Rings very true. I carry 3 - 4 liters minimum now. Many water sources are chemically contaminated.

"A grunt's _____" is a series I really like. A grunt's clothing kit, a grunt's food supply, a grunt's optional items, ect...
I also pack a small tube of Shoe Goo. Can get it at Walmart. Very useful for patching holes in shoes, tents, air mattresses, rafts, or pretty much anything else. Also can be used to waterproof anything and makes a good emergency tinder to get a fire started.
Dental floss works great as thread
Tenacious mcnet or other kinds of outdoor repair tape is pretty good also. I've used it to repair small hole on gortex jacket. It's transparent mostly so your repairs blend a little better with fabric than gorilla tape
Super Glue is awesome stuff to add. Glues nylon, polyester and cordova really well as long as it's dry. Also Super Glue is an excellent way to to suture skin without stitches. The tubes weigh nothing and fit nice in a medicine bottle.

Mini tubes of shoe goop/e6000 adhesive. Good for gluing objects, ceiling seams, and waterproofing. Also good fire starter.
Howdy Crunchy. Love the repair kit. I’ve carried a few small tubes of crazy glue, short piece of hot glue stick & a few small screw hooks for years and years. Hot glue and the lighter have helped me numerous times. Love your vids and that Grunt honesty. Sub’ed as a result. Thanks, retired -19K
My experience with crazy glue / super glue is that it has a shelf life and when you need it, it's already hardened. I like your idea of carrying hot glue, which gives you a backup in case your super glue goes bad.

“Fine” fishing line for sewing repairs.
My peacetime Army days were decades ago, we spent all our time learning NBC to defend ourselves against the big bad Russian army sweeping over Europe. Hmmm...maybe that training will come in handy again. Spent up to a month at a time in field exercises, if you forgot it, it stayed forgot. If you tore it up, it stayed tore up. So it always mystified me when someone would tear something up and say Oh man I wish I had a (fill in the blank) and I'd pull one out. Sewing kit, whatever. I carried a needle and thread for decades and never used it until last year, a strap tore off my pack. We stopped, out came the needle and thread, quick repair and off we went. I always saved the safety pins that came on ammo bandoleers, keep a few on my dog tags to this day. A hundred years later while camping a guy's iPhone charger port got all gunked up with pocket lint. He lamented if only he had a pin or something...out comes the dog tags with safety pins...he was dumbfounded! LOL.

I like having some power pro/tuffline for small but heavy duty thread for sewing and a small tube of super glue gel too for repairs. In bigger packs some shoe goo too.

You actually grunt proofed the Bushmen thermo tarp as a good alternative to the Arcturus silly blanket, and it is really darn tough tarp, besides the DD, the Bushmen tarp is really good solution.

First, nice shirt! LOL Second, those bottles are the best. (Same bottles that glucose tablets come in.) They're bigger than a film canister (which don't exist anymore anyway) and seal better than most pill bottles I've found. I do the same with gorilla tape on the outside and "goodies" inside.
