It's been said for many years that the best assets a QB can have are a dominant offensive line and a strong running game. If they can bring in a QB coach to develop these guys to any level of competence, it will be far more likely to be successful on the field if they return to the days of dominant offensive line recruiting, coaching, practice, and on the field play, at WI. I love the emphasis on "reliable violence" on offense by this coach. THAT sounds like WI football. The importance of running the ball has returned to NFL, and now college, football. The better the running game, the more likely it is for a play action passing attack to be successful.
Wisconsin has hopefully learned their lesson. The game can be a lot more about players than plays in that it's a matter of figuring the best kinds of players you can recruit, then running a system that allows those guys to do what they do best. Work with what you have. In Wisconsin, that's mostly big, broad, corn-fed Scandinavian boys. Make that your foundation and do your best to put skill talent around it. As Barry said in the beginning: the heart and soul will be the offensive line, and it will mostly come from in-state. The hands and feet will mostly come from elsewhere.

Too bad we couldn’t trade Fickell for HC Lance Lieopold (sp)!
Both went 5-7 this year and Fickell is a far better recruiter in a tougher conference. Patience!!!
