I don't know, man. I dont know how the judges saw the fight but I did not anticipate the decision - if anything, Ward could barely get a split decision on his favor.
Totally had Sergey Kovalev winning. HBO had it 116-111, I had it 115-112 to Kovalev.
Early in the 2nd round Kovalev scored a knock down, more power punches, snappy left jabs and had ring control of the entire fight. Ward seemed to have better poisture going into the fight but he wasn't effective until the second half of the fight - but still, personally, that wasn't enough to put him close to Kovalev in the scorecards.

This fight was another example of why Boxing is in the shitter. Andre Ward lost by a wide margin. he never did anything to take Kovalev's title.
Keep promoting boring ass hug and pot shot fighters while the UFC takes all the profits! The corruption of the judging in boxing is exactly why it has lost the majority of fans.

Love both fighters, but Ward is going to come into this fight and put on a show. He's going to come in aggressive and try to get Kovalev's respect early. He's going to do everything in this fight. Attack with nice left hooks and combinations, clinch, box on the inside, counter on Kovalev's range. I hate to say it, but we might just see Ward outclass Kovalev and win by decision, 9 rounds to 3. More likely, however, we will see a hard fought battle where Kovalev is going to hit Ward and get his respect as well, maybe neutralize Ward's aggressive attacks that he'll attempt in the first few rounds in the beginning. Kovalev's right will land a good few times, but I believe Ward will neutralize that power with his defensive footwork, evasive techniques following his aggressive/attacking combinations, and clinching (I believe there's going to be a good amount of clinching by Ward, but, hey, do what you got to do to win); based on this assumption many of Kovalev's power punches will either miss or not land flush enough to hurt Ward. However, could also turn out to be a snooze fest like Klitschko vs. Tyson because both guys are at the top technically and Ward will clinch and try to match or counter every attacking combination Kovalev throws, perhaps with counter punches, but more likely with clinching. Final prediction: Ward by majority decision, somewhere around seven rounds to five. There's a slightly lesser chance he dominates and frustrates Kovalev by neutralizing his attack with his own attacking combinations, clinching, and his ability to slip opponents power punches. This will result in a UD win for Ward, somewhere around 9 rounds to 3. And, lastly, and at a relatively low probability we will see Kovalev catch Ward with something big (flush, clean right hand) early and stagger and shock Ward for the rest of the fight or put him down and/or out. Again, this last scenario is least probable, but it is possible. The most likely scenario, in my opinion, is Ward doing enough to win a defensive (and relatively boring) points match by majority decision, somewhere around seven rounds to five.
Come in aggressive early. Yeah, right.

Everyone knows he won the whole world. Kovalev lost in the US no fair shake and 2 were favored for ward and 1 kovalev. So yeah ward knew he didn't win he was all sad and shocked until he got his name called he was so happy like it was a miracle. The whole fight was fixed. Lmao

Kova has to drain down to make 175. Ward was able to cut down to a slimmer weight of 168, but word around is that he couldnt make 68 anymore and so he moved up to 175. This means Ward doesnt have to cut as much and can carry more muscle mass before weigh ins.
Look at them tonight after Kova has had a chance to rehydrate a bit, it probably wont look as dramatic a difference in size.
Kovalev looks to have the bugger frame though his arms are longer thicker body.
