Tragedy and trauma are responsible for bringing Ariel Levitan and Jeremy Dawson together. The two form Me and My Shadow, or “MXMS” for short, and bring into existence funeral pop. MXMS made an impressive impact with the release of their single "I Revenge," and now they return with one of the darkest covers of "Something In The Way" by Nirvana. “"Something in the Way" is our favorite piece of Kurt's writing...the numb, submissive feeling has been glue for other frightened humans like us. Our re-creation of the song is our interpretation of Ariel’s daily cyclic journey through mental illness, depression, and the drugs that sometimes work. The song is meant to postpone the inevitable face to face with reality that’s en route.”

Something about this calms my anxiety. And I don't know why. I crave this style of music in such a big way when I'm feeling anxious. It's soothing.
Thing is.. that few understand, is that this song is about crippling depression. You want to be happy and live a normal life but.... somethings in the way.
kurt wrote this about the time / when he was homeless and literally lived under a bridge in his youth for a while.
OMG This Nirvana cover must have Kurt up in Heaven with a huge smile on his face cause he's so proud!

Love this song and love her... was in NY when Kurt played this and this gives me goosebumps like then. Got to ask though, this video is perfection, she is so stunning and a true dancer that is clear... you don't move like that without years of training... so nice to see, but those contact lenses totally distract me, I like your natural eye color.

The pill bottle at 1:20 says "Ariel Levitan", the lead singer from MXMS. This song must be hugely personal to her to have her include her own medication in the video.
I think all of their musique is intensely personal~as well as universal- that is why it is so profoundly beautiful. BTW catch Rx.
It's also a pretty standard dosage of Bupropion (Wellbutrin) --an antidepressant. Definitely a powerful inclusion!
It's not the original, but still has a nice darker vibe to it that's interesting.

Maybe they didnt try to "do it better" -maybe just adding Something to a song they love. Like taking a picture of a beautiful flower rather than picking it. I think its just different and they are both amazing, beautiful songs.
