    Congrats on making full blown trailing arms in your garage, that's sick. Also loving the removable bed cage, if/when I build a prerunner I think it would be like this, much simpler than full cab integration. Having a semi usable bed is worth a lot too.

    One thing you wanna watch out for when you import pictures into CAD is that pictures aren't isometric - perspective warps dimensions. It's no problem if all you need are some lines and angles and the dimensions aren't critical, or if you are taking scans of 2D profiles, but with camera photos when you bring it into CAD the stuff in the rear of the photo is scaled down compared to the front and your design stops lining up to the real world.
    I stopped using the picture method for this reason, it often ended up being more work than it was worth. One alternative is photogrammetry where you actually make a 3D scan from pictures, and the software corrects for the perspective issues. There's some free software for this, and some other cheap software for it. I have a how to on my channel if you wanna see how this is done, scanned my whole car to design a bumper for it and it turned out pretty well in my opinion.

    The only bad thing I see with these types of link set-ups is you will be able to go faster than with leaf springs, and you don't have the protection of a full cage. Other than that I can see the appeal.

    This isn't any different from a triangulated 4-link. I was under the assumption that it was truck arm style trailing arms, AKA 2 arms only which is what keeps everything underneath the bed. So what the heck is the point of doing the whole back half thing if the geometry and amount of arms are more or less the same? Is there anything you can run that ACTUALLY contains everything underneath the bed? And what is this "5 link" you talked about on the leaf spring vs 4-link video?

    Awesome video and clean work. How do you determine shock angle?

    • @ChristianEwingVD
      @ChristianEwingVD 2 года назад +2

      Shock angle is based off the truck at full bump (compression). The shock needs to be less than 90* angled forwards to the top side of the trailing arm. There is no exact degree to find but as long as the shock is less than 90* it will stay progressive throughout the entire stroke and make it better for tuning

      @@ChristianEwingVD ok, thank you. So is there still a piston in that is shimmed in the coilover but it doesn't have the bump zone piston or red piston that I think you guys have discussed in your previous videos?

    • @ChristianEwingVD
      @ChristianEwingVD 3 года назад

      @@mayo3159 correct, the shocks that’s being ran on this truck is just a standard coilover, it still has a piston and compression and rebound shim stacks on each side of it controlling the flow of oil through the shock 👍🏼 it just doesn’t have the internal bumpstop like the IBP’s do

    • @austinroede5788
      @austinroede5788 2 года назад

      @@ChristianEwingVD I mean there is not much shaft showing at bump, and the retainer takes up some shaft space when it is on the shock.

    • @ChristianEwingVD
      @ChristianEwingVD 2 года назад

      @@austinroede5788 there is zero shaft showing at bump, but there is also no bumpstop pads on the axle yet ;) you’re also forgetting this is a race series coilover. The black space you see between the rod end and the dust cap while it’s fully collapsed is where the spring retainer sits. It does not take up any shaft space at all
