With the successful release of their studio album, "The First Day," during the summer of 1993, Sylvian/Fripp embarked on an extensive tour to support the record. The lineup consisted of Trey Gunn, who resumed his role as the stick player from previous tours and studio recordings, and the addition of Pat Mastelotto on drums. Mastelotto's performance led to him being offered the drum stool in King Crimson. His membership in the group continued throughout the 1990s up until the band's final line-up in 2021. The touring ensemble was completed by producer and recording artist Michael Brook.
The live album "Damage" was recorded during the final London concerts in December 1993 and released in 1994. While the studio album showcased a measured grace and power, the live album further intensified the rock pieces, featuring extraordinary performances from all the contributors. This starkly contrasted with the quieter, more ambient material, allowing audiences to appreciate every nuance of the songs. David Sylvian's vocals reached new heights, sounding better and more at ease than ever before in a live setting. Robert Fripp delivered some of his most searing solos, adding to the intensity of the performances. The setlist included tracks from the recent studio album, beloved fan favourites from David's solo discography and Rain Tree Crow, as well as one new song, "The First Day.”

I saw this tour when they played in Berkeley. It is one of my all time favorite live shows. I’ve seen Fripp perform on many occasions including with King Crimson and on his own. I even have the live LaserDisc of this tour recorded in Japan. But I’ve never seen Fripp perform quite like he played in Berkeley. The sound was amazing, but his manner of playing was nothing like I’d ever seen before or since. He was seated as usual, but as he played his body moved back and forth, up and down, as if some outside unseen force was trying to pull the guitar out of his hands and if he let go it would fly out and away. At the time I thought it was perhaps he had found a new way of playing guitar, and each contortion placed him in a perfect position to play each note. But I never saw him play that way again. If I ever had the chance to speak to him I would ask if he remembers that night and what was happening.

I still think it's the best solo of Fripp ever in the end of this song

Still feel it works better with, or even needs the original Steve Jansen drum part. That original drum part had us all in the throes of deep dark seas while Robert’s guitar provided a multi-coloured lightning storm display & David’s voice that of a demigod trapped in that emotional ocean.
While this simplified part has us chugging along a railroad handcar unencumbered and unaware of the turmoil all around it.
But yeah Robert sounds incredible & Silvian too.

    Fripp 的結他彈奏把歌曲推進到另一層次, 甚至比原曲更優勝。

The #1 Sylvian, Sylvian/Fripp song. Nothing comes close. Brilliant.
    It seems that I remember
    I dreamed a thousand dreams
    We'd face the days together
    No matter what they'd bring
A strength inside like I'd never known
Opened the door to life and let it go
    This sun may shine forever
    Upon the back of love
    A kingdom raised from ashes
    And held within your arms
And should the rain break through the trees
We'll find a shelter there and never leave
I'll run to you, nothing stands between us now
    Nothing I can lose
This light inside can never die
Another world just made for two
I'll swim the seas inside with you
And like the waves, without a sound
    I'll never let you down
    Upon a wave of summer
    A hilltop paved with gold
We shut our eyes and made
    The promises we hold
A will to guide and see us through
I'd do it all again because of you
I'll run to you, nothing stands between us now
    Nothing I can lose
This light inside can never die
Another world just made for two
I'll swim the seas inside with you
And like the waves, without a sound
    I'll never let you down
I'd tear my very soul to make you mine
