Yamazaki was in Fatal Fury 3. Laurence Blood hung out with Wolfgang Krauser, not Geese. It was always Kevin Rian. Freeman died in Mark of the Wolves and already has been replaced with a character with basically his moveset. Woolie is a scrub-tier lore master for fighting games.
Need me an entire segment of Woolie going over what the FUCK they mean by "Queen of Vialattea" because unless that's a new localization for a known area I have NO IDEA WHAT THEY MEAN BY THIS What happened to Illyria? Is Vialattea one of it's the three kingdoms? Did the three kings super-duper-unify their already existing unification and make a new COUNTRY? Like where even is it??
As cool as it would be to see fighting game plots have a real effect on the roster, it ultimately just makes the game worse. You have less characters to play with, or you can take away stuff that ruins the character's identity (like Iori losing his flames, even if that was still selectable) and people might not react well. Look at the Kombat Kids, the SoulCalibur 5 roster, or even SF III's reception (at first). Every time fighting games try to be more ambitious with rosters and their stories it backfires. Even KOF eventually just decided to revive everyone in XIV, and I'm not wholly convinced Geese won't just show up in City of the Wolves at this point. I'd argue Guilty Gear at least has kept Kliff and Justice dead....but they also killed Zato just to revive him, and there's rumblings that Unika might have some Justice in her so...yeah.
on the flip side, given enough time people eventually come around on the new chsrscters. If their design and mechanics are good enough. See those same examples minus SCV because SC is run like shit
