  • How to install the front door speaker on a Pontiac G6. Mine is a 2008 G6 but i believe most years are the same. Be sure not to destroy the factory speaker once removed as you will need most of it to mount the replacement speaker. Be sure to check with crutchfield in the link below or amazon to see if the speaker you want to install will fit. The G6 requires a speaker that is not very deep, in my case a Polk Slimline Speaker.

    Great vid! I just replaced all 4 Speakers in 06 G6 . The left rear didn’t work at all and the fronts were both blown . The idea for modifying the old front speakers was genius! Worked perfectly! Thanks for sharing. It took me about 4 hours to complete the whole job.

    Thanks for the video. I just did this project today on my 2008 with 252,000 miles on it. They factory speakers in the front finally went.
    the directions worked pretty well...Note that I did not have to disconnect the door handle on my 2008 G6. Instead, I twisted it, pulled it back through, and supported the panel on a milk crate while I changed out the front speakers. One thing of note, that little rivet you have to push in and pull out on the panel itself is VERY important to fitting the panel back. Be careful with it! Also, be very sure that when you put the panel back on, 1) all of the foam pieces stay in the panel, and 2) you set the panel in the sill first....I had problems with the driver's door. I also had problems with some of the panel rivets, thanks to GM's finest smashing them years ago. Door panel still fits pretty well.
    If you're watching this video to replace the front speakers, I thought they rushed through the wiring part. Disconnecting the wiring is easy for everything but the speaker itself. Use a flat screwdriver to remove that. Push it right down into the connector and pry it back up slowly....Kind of dig it out towards you. Be careful with this, you do NOT want to break that connector (or any others)!!! Don't worry, the wiring part is easy as hell.
    Metra makes a bracket to connect speakers to replace the bracket that connects to the speaker and the door panel. Use that brand not scosch. Also, Metra makes a wiring harness adapter. (Bracket: Metra 82-3006 6" to 6-3/4" Speaker Adapter for GM Multi 05-Up......Wiring adapter: Metra 72-4568 Speaker Harness for Selected General Motor Vehicles)....The wiring adapter is highly recommended. I'm no wiring expert, so these things make it simple and better than trying to figure out what wires to cut...Crutchfield told me there was no wiring adapter. I bought mine at Best Buy in Brighton, MI.... Last, the speakers to replace are 6.5's in the front. Use nothing else!!! Don't get cute and upgrade to a 6.75"...The brackets are pretty specific, and you don't want to mess around for .25".
    I replaced the factory speakers with Kicker 43CSC654 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers from Best Buy....They sound pretty nice with the factory stereo. They are 4 ohm, and can handle an amp if you ever upgrade. What I wish I would have done, was replaced the tweeters that are up in the little triangle piece on our G6. They are garbage. You can buy a kit of "components" that give you the 2 door speakers, and 2 tweeters....I think Metra makes a wiring adapter for the tweeters too.
    Another thing I did was take the foam rubber gasket off of the original speaker brackets....You need something like this to keep them "stuck" to the door panel and to eliminate vibration...I tried installing these without, and the speakers vibrated....
    I watched the videos for doing the back speakers......Not looking forward to that, so they'd better make it a few more years!

    Thanks so much! Did this on my Aura, the doors are slightly different but the speakers are identical. I ordered new frames and they didn't fit the speaker or the door. I used your idea of cutting out the speaker. I didn't trim the lip around the edge and the speaker fit perfectly in the door. Drilled two pilot holes, secured it and put it back together. I bought cheap Kenwoods as replacements and I found they fit fine like this. Not having speakers work is maddening. I appreciate your sharing these tips.

    Came across this while looking up gm amps. What most people don't understand is that foam and speaker mount serves a purpose in the acoustics from the speaker. Second each speaker is independently driven from the amp at 2ohms. common replacements are 4ohms which means half the power/sound of the original. Third it is a pain in the butt but gm wired each independent speaker as its own for frequency. So basically if you replaced the 2ohms with 4 ohms your truly only getting half the sound and response.

    When I changed the front speakers in my 08 G6, the driver side speaker housing was different with 4 screws holding the speaker in it. So I was able to easily change it as it was a direct fit with my new one.
    The passenger side however, the housing and speaker were one so I had to modify. I took some shears and just cut around it then forced screws into the plastic. Worked out quite well.

    • @LoFiMofo
      @LoFiMofo  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, it is still working. There is a separate pair of wires that go to the tweeter that i had to unplug to remove the door panel. Just don't forget to reconnect them when you put the panel back on.

    I wasn't talking about changing the impedance,I was asking where the tweeters are separate from for speakers I was wondering if they both were 8ohm so was 4 for the front once both hooked, and for the front driver side and rear passenger side they both kinda sizzled out at same time so I don't know if something burned out happened when was at full stop and never came back ...I was cranking lot that day on hoti day, so I'm thinking out burned the stereo, but left for front right rear just don't make sense to me why out would be like that,I want to thank you for everything I asked you... think stereo has burned just makes no sense 2 opposite sides

      JT griffin oh, i see. Well it is quite possible that the stereo could be fried seeing all those things happened at once. The tweeters have their own set of wires back to the head unit i believe,but i can't be 100 percent certain without digging up head unit schematic first. These stock G6 heads don't have a whole lot of balls. I've been wanting to install an inline amp to help mine out,just gotta scrape up the cash first.

    • @cedricmannie1182
      @cedricmannie1182 6 лет назад +2

      After some minimal research, I believe 2 of the wires are positive and the remaining 2 wires are negative. You wire both of the positive wires to the positive terminal and the negative wires to the negative terminal. So you will have two wires on one terminal and two wires on the other terminal.

      Yes, you remove the connector going to the speaker and then you just cut the connect off leaving only the two wires. Then connect those directly to the new speaker, being sure to observe + and -, by either using crimp on "spade" connectors or soldering.

    • @LoFiMofo
      @LoFiMofo  7 лет назад

      JT griffin i wouldn't change the impedance (if it's 4 ohm stay with 4 ohm ,ect.) As for the front left and right rear both not working that could either be a connection issue behind the stereo or at the speakers themselves. In my case the speaker itself went out so that's very possible. The rear speakers are difficult to change so set aside some time for that. I also have a video for that install too.
