- - Remember my original "Paint Your PC Components" video from back in the day (Ok, maybe more like five months ago)? I've decided to revisit this topic for our new subscribers, and keep the quality top-notch. Be sure to check out Vol. 1 as well! Enjoy.
DISCLAIMER: Permanent paint will void any warranty. Additionally, I am by no means a painting expert. I understand that I likely broke several "painting laws" in this video, but nonetheless, the results are still satisfactory and to my liking. If you desire a 100% refined and professional finish, this video isn't for you. If, however, you're looking for a clean, quick, and concise result, I encourage you to give this a try. Just keep the warranty thing in mind, unless you decide to use Plasti-Dip as I have in the past.

8 years later bro's video is still the most helpful guide when it comes to paint mods. Alot of videos when it comes to these don't even gaf on painting the fans which is very wrong.
3 people apsolutely rekt their GPU coolers.

Greg: taking stuff apart can be a pain. Me: that's the easy part, getting that bad boy back together (functional) lmao is what I'm worried about
I'm not quite sure why YT suggested I watch this 5 year old video, but it's great to see how much you've improved your channel!
Damn! I only have Amazon boxes... guess I can't paint my parts now. :(
+flopticalcube Let's all have a moment of silence...
You just love to paint you're pc parts. Nice job man.
Huh?
+Barrett Rainey *In this case, its YOUR pc parts, not you're, he is not a pc
I just painted my 1050 ti. I am so excited to see the outcome.
I know I'm 4 years late but did it compromise cooling at all
I want to do this but I'm really nervous that I'm gonna break something.
same haha
TheLoneWolf i'll paint my MSI Gaming X... i have a Blue-Black PC and this card lights red xD
Don't do it. You'll break something.
dude the msi gaming x is the easiest
I did jt and I broke something
I recently started watching your vids and also subscribed for about a month now. In that month learning with and watching your vids is always a pleasure, easy to understand and not confusing. Keep up the work, great vids. From Canada
+richath tith I greatly appreciate it!
This is a much better quality video. much better videography and better sound balancing. Good Job Greg!
Brevity is better in this video.
Thanks mate! Just painted my new 3080 eagle edition!
Do you have photos??? I really want to paint my 3080 eagle but it scares me xD, it's hard or not much?
Dude thank you for this video! I've been searching for a guide for the g1 gaming and I couldn't find any!
Thanks to you, I paint my 970 G1 gaming red! Thanks dude!
3:33 In my case, no pun intended
First Name Surname “in this case, no pun intended” ~ steve erkul 2018
Lol
If I buy a used GPU without a warranty I guess I don't need to worry about voiding one. 😍😍
Less e-waste too, it's win win imo
Yeah this is true but you still don’t want to break anything because either way your still missing out on a gpu, break something and plus no warranty
That was perfect man! Excellent video!
Very nice painting skills and great tutorial ... just one question... seriously you painted it in your room? I recommend painting in at least garage or outside house.
Keep up a good work, regards.
Yeah 💯 especially after how much overspray we saw lol just a thought
Hi! I'm thinking of doing something just like this and this video has really helped me on some of the question marks I've got! Thanks Man! Great Work!
"..But I'm a baller on a budget" *proceeds to paint next to an outdoor swimming pool that most can only dream of having*
This was back when I lived with my parents and I was in college. I _was_ on a budget.
You can be on a budget of $150,000. It's still a budget, lol.
With video cars shortages I was forced to buy a black 6800xt. My PC theme is white and have some black but the GPU it's entirely black. I was thinking of painting the shroud but. I thought I was crazy. After watching this video I wasn't crazy. I'm more encouraged to paint my GPU tomorrow. Awesome video!

+Skill Troll95 I appreciate it!
make that two :'(
That was scary as hell, but love the result!!, still love my G1 in black ^_^
I vote to keep it Science Studio
Very well done. Keep up the awesome vids my friend
+jiblyjably Much appreciated!
+Science Studio can u control the front led too?
color changing paint would look cool
yep you should go for something like "hardware studio" or "pc studio" or similar !! cheers mate !! great channel!!
Great video, bro!
Keep the name Science Studio, though. I personally like it, as do other people.
The thing with the heat paste, is different to CPUs, its actually not to Bad, to but alot paste on it
But theres nothing over white PC components, its just so clean and cool lookingb
Nice guide :D You might want to be a bit careful with as5 not getting overspread (in case you put too much) as it might burn your gpu (if it gets in contact with any pins or anything that should not be touching)
+CubiX It's non-conductive. It won't hurt anything if it happens to run over, but I didn't put that much on anyway.
You should keep the name. I like it.
“I have a fetish for white.”
White girls on twitter:
“And I took that personally.”
Bruhh LOLL
And how can you paint the chipset cooler
+Jonas Ziegler Same way. I just didn't want to take the entire motherboard off to get to it.
Science Studio OK ^^. You just need to make a new compound of thermal paste to the chipset cooler after you painted it?
Jonas Ziegler Nope. The thermal pad is reusable (contrary to what many might claim). It's completely fine and I've run tests to verify that temperatures remain consistent before and after.
Science Studio Ok, but the difference with thermal paste on a graphics card is cool like 3-4 degrees on my card
idk why no one actually researches what paints to use.. I'm a painter by trade and any plastic surface should be sprayed with adhesion promotor or heck even filling epoxy primer before using a basecoat. Otherwise it can easily peel, crack or melt off.
Practice on a nerf gun.
yet again an awesome video
+Mo Atwan I appreciate it!
I would caution against spraying heatsinks, most of them are anodized. Yes engine spray can withstand high heat, but who knows if a spray makes the heat dissipation less efficient. How less efficient? No idea. A study would be cool, but until that happens, you might want to reconsider. What I will say though is kudos for not spraying the underside of those heatsinks where the thermal pads contact, that is important.
Nice work. gotta try it sometime.
Very thorough video, great stuff!
+Frederick Zaegen Thanks!
You're making the heatsinks less effective by having layers of paint added to them (it's like you're putting a blanket between the heatsink and air). Sure, it will still cool the components, but at a higher thermal equilibrium. If one must paint a heatsink (as oppose to electrolysis), a paint that is specifically designed for high thermal conductivity is highly recommended (instead of just any off the shelf paint).
Tip for painting: Place your objects on a piece of paper inside the box. So that you can rotate them (by rotating the piece of paper) between coatings while still having the walls up.
+PCUser1024 VRMs should never ever ever get very hot. Your first point is rather moot. I do, however, like your idea with the paper. Will have to do that for next time.
Dude thank you I have a gigabyte gtx 1060 OC Model GV-N1060G1 and it was a b**** trying to get everything apart. Did not want to reseat GPU but it made me due to factory potions of screws and power connectors. Dumb.... I am still taking mine apart right now trying to replace fans and your video helped me so much and was the only one out there remotely close to mine. Everyone else has a easy "Johnny 5 Disassemble" but no, not mine... Grrrrr. Thank you had to apply some force like you said to pull up the heat sink. Also my screws to release heat sinks are on bottom and the front of the card, not the side like everyone else says in there videos, took me for ever to find it. o.o
great idea, but if you want to have a better coat than what he had on his heatspreader, here are a few tips
1) mask the heatsync where the thermal pad would lie
2) PREP OR SAND THE SURFACE
3) tie it up as to not touch the sides of the paint, just thread it through the inside of the hole
4) if you dont wanna tie it up with dental floss, then you can put some poster tack on the tape where the thermal pad goes, and get some wooden skewers and use it to spin the peice around in your hand when painting
5) invest in some painting tools, if your dad has some use those, airbrushes are god teir for this, just make sure you use something like acrylic like tamiya, and airbrush that baby to sexy perfection
6) TOPCOAT TOPCOAT TOPCOAT, i cant stress this enough, dust will stick to the paint like a BICH, so topcoating will prevent that and scratches, and dont get the shitty krylon or generic brand topcoat, go to a hobby store and get yourself a can of testors, tamiya, mr hobby, etc whatever you can get your hands on, but please dear god no krylon
What do you mean by "Topcoat"...do you mean primer first? I'm a painter by trade but houses are sure different than PC parts so I'm humbly asking for advice.
@@furankuchan i don't know paint at all... but it sounds like he said put a top coat over the last coat of paint to protect it from dust and scratches
Great job as always.
With that black inside of the case and black and white, how does white led's shine. Must look so amazing. :)
Does using plastidip have a tangible negative effect on temps when used on a heatsink?
no
Can’t wait to try this with my 2060 super
better be careful
How did it go
This is great, DIY all the way!
Very nice explanation how to paint gpu for someone who would like to have some idea regarding it.
It is still little hard for me to believe that you are actually giving away the GPU that u have personally painted.
You could have easily decided to giveaway a new gpu instead of this one. Hats off to you ...for taking d path less taken.
Wish you the best for future.
i came here after seeing the giveaway video bro ! better late than never.
very nice job
don't change it Science studio is good ;)
Where do you get the music for all your videos? Good taste ;)
Awesome video. Awesome channel. Subscribed!
+B Ry Thanks for the support!
Is painting a heat sink bad because the heat won't dissipate at the air because the paint is covered all over the heatsink
How does the engine enamel compare to the plastidip?
Nice F-18 wrist band, planning on aviation after college? Also, I bet it would be far more tedious, but less technical to just dry brush the graphics card instead of spray painting it.
Thank you man this was really helpful but i got one question. Do you think changing stock fans on gpu will make temps go higher/lower?
Can you show a tutorial where you do it with a 30-series gaming x trio?
I hate everything about life... But I likes this vid. Thx for showing us ur knowledge!
Heyyo Greg, so I'm thinking of painting my parts white and doing RGB lighting like you did since this turned out amazing for you... but I'm feeling like a wuss since I'm worried about warranty so I was thinking of trying it with a type of paint that's removable... I know Plastidip is removable but it's rubberized and acts like an insulator so it's not the best choice. By chance can you recommend a type of paint that is removable in case I need to claim warranty that won't act as a rubberized insulator? Or do you think a rubberized insulator won't make too much of a difference?
Painting is truly no issue for me, but what I'm worried about is voiding warranties and having more heat since the paint might not allow for parts to cool as well? How are temps after painting everything?
Hey I have been watching your videos and I think theyre really high quality, and it would be my dream to one day have a tech channel like this. Would it be ok if I messaged you with a few questions about how to get started?
How’s it coming?
Song:
Greg Salazar Meets Tron
Great video!
As far as names go, I really don't mind your current name, but an idea for a different name would be "Tech Studio" or something like that.
Thanks for this upload... I want build an orange & black build & was wondering if painting would be a good option for me since the brand I want use, (ASUS ROG) is usually red & black. I was literally thinking about this when coming up with a preliminary GTX 1080 SLI build I plan on doing within the next year.
so did you do it??
i know it's an old vid but not hurt to ask, i guess. have you (or anyone who might see this comment in the future) painted the heatsink/fin? how it affect the temp? i've seen Jayz vid but he's doing it on tower cooler. i'd love to know how it works on GPU's fin since it's in cotact with a lot more part (GPU die and VRMs) than a cooler tower did
it's probably not the best idea. I'm sure it wouldn't make a huge difference but, if i was you, i would leave the heatsink alone.
That looks much better that last time ;P
Over spray is when you spray something that you did not want to paint. Over spray is not' putting to much paint on. js
Comp. Studio, Tech Studio, or Computech Studio fits your channel more than Science Studio. When I read/hear Science, I think of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
+Phil Carrillo We used to do a lot of that.
+Science Studio Oh I didn't know. I based it all on the videos I had watch on your channel.
And I just realized that I'm not subscribe. Silly me. Great videos. Very unique compare to the average big tech channels videos.
I painted my GPU in red to get more fps but it didn't work. I might have to RMA it... 🤔
Keep science studio
Do you think you can do a video on painting the entirety of the interior of a pc case? And also painting an I/O shield?
I'm painting both of those for my build. I'm not sure where / how to start nor what painting method would be best.
+Afro Sama I wouldn't pursue that.
I just finished painting my 980 ti. I absolutely would not have but the previous owner did a horrible paint job and was white too so I corrected it and made it black again
I personally like the current name, but what about "Hardware Nexus"... A nexus is a central or focal point :)
theres already a chanel named gaming nexus
Fantastic!
I have a fetish for white too but blue is my favorite color so I try to mix the two in my PC as much as possible.
Also, light blue lighting looks amazing on white hardware.
SS you're the BOSS !!!
i like this video, i actually like the entire channel thats why i subsribed. Duhh
can you got a bit more in depth for the reassembly next time :)
+Caesar Literally repeat the steps for disassembly in reverse.
Your videos are so good. It is only a matter of time when you break through. Keep up the good work :D And I think you shouldn't change your name completely but just shorten it a little. Maybe ''Sc. Studio''?
Or ''Tech Studio''. I think the studio part is good.
What about using vinyl dye?
Whats wrong with your keyboard you painted why is the color scratched off is it because it was PlastiDip or just because of normal use ??
+DJ Fuerst Plasti-Dip
+Science Studio OK so what should I use then for painting my keyboard ??
That ram looks cool, what ram is that ?
Hey ScienceStudio, how much do you think prices will drop for the 900 series? Thanks, great video like always!
A ton, gtx 980 ti's go for as low as 400 on eBay
Hopefully this summer I can get a 970 for 150 or 200.
+☆ LegendaryC4 a 970 for 150-200? i dont think that would happen, maybe its 250
+iAnthonyFx I saw one for 190 though that was gone as soon as it went up, the good deals disappear quickly
I have a GTX 660 right now. Maybe I'll upgrde to a 770 if I can't get a 970.
every time i see your video it makes me Jealous i have a build my pc 3 days ago but it looks ugly LOL . Keep up man ;) PEACE OUT
very good, unique, interesting and well explained videos. not that painting pc parts is a unique one, but liked the way you explained. I think its time for you to upgrade to custom cooling. Please use rigid tubes not the soft ones. cheers.
is it better to use a primer at first? and after that the color ?
Is it possible to use acrylic spray paint? Im using an RX 580 btw
Man that like step was hard. The video was grate but I do hate everything about life.
You might wanna light sand parts that are red… The red will bleed through the white and will be pink after a while
do you have to put new thermal paste on?
Nope! You don't have to but since you're removing the heatsink from the die anyways, you're introducing small micro bubbles that won't be there if you put new thermal paste on, thus technically reducing efficient heat spread. Generally if you have the high end components, you'll have thermal paste around to reapply. However it's not a necessary step.
+Josh Allen thanks for the answer man!
Clutchkick Chris recommendation confirm yes, I personally would use artic MX 5, or gelid solutions g extreme.
hi , is it necessary to sand or prime before painting
Would it be bad to paint my dust filter that sits on top of my case?
Probably.
Science Studio Ok
Don't paint that, the holes are small and the paint will fill those in. A good alternative would be to find some mesh in your preferred color or paint the mesh itself, then measure the dust filter and cut the mesh to the same size and place it over top of the filter to give it a tint of the color you want.
What paint should I use for the heat spreader of my cpu cooler ? Not the Coler I mean the Type of Paint
What's that ram kit? It looks dope!
I like the fishy wallpaper
All its ok but heat radiators on the motherboard ;_; check power section temperature after painting ;)
Have you tried to paint the NZXT CPU cooler you have?
I'm thinking about it but I'm not sure how to paint the tubes.
what cpu coller are you using?
i like the end result of that color. good job. i would pay you to color my gpu
Any advice on how to remove acrylic paint from gpu plastic parts and restore original look? Or it's not possible and would need to paint again using original color?
Is painting fan blades of normal fans okay or would that also cause a issue?
i wish you had shown the cooling compound coverage when spread... no one seems to ever show it, people just show the application, but not what it should look like after it is spread.
Are we not allowed to check it, does it ruin it or something?
Don't check it
