I agree, stacked bass and kick hits require more work opposed to separated or ducked, but the pay off, a way more thick heavy low end rhythm, at least concerning '"real" acoustic kicks and bass guitars.

Question:
Are we aiming to detune the kick to match the tone of the bass guitar or are we aiming for a more matched low end?
I think the detuning was a little extra, I try not to mess with that, but I think I saw your thinking pattern there and will attempt it, soon.......

The main thing I’m listening or even feeling for with the kick pitch shifting is how the low end of the kick resonates with the bass. I’m looking to find the sweet spot to what feels the best to me.
With the Sub Pac it makes it easy but you should be able to hear a difference on cans (closed back will be your best bet) and make a decision that way as well. Some songs it may feel better to pitch the kick above the bass, sometimes right around the same resonance of the bass subs, and others below the lowest notes of the bass.
