My beloved Ero died in December. She got out on Christmas evening and crawled home after being struck by a car. We took her in to emergency care the following morning and had to be put down. I don’t know if I’ll ever get over it. But this song helps me remember all the joy and beauty and unconditional love I learned from her. She was my Hero - funny - I knew that when she came to me.

Some weeks ago at night I found two baby magpies that had fallen from their nest after a cat attacked them and their parents. Given the fact that the nest was too high to reach, I rescued them. One of the two had many scratches on her little head, so I kept them inside my house for a week. After that, I brought them outside, in a big cage where they could fly and explore. I gave them food every hour with my hands, mimicking the sound their parents do when they feed them. I felt an instant connection with them, and especially with the one that was hurt, given the fact that she was always very glad to see me, singing when I approached her and giving me little kisses with her beak. Some days ago, she started to appear somewhat ill, her skin started to change in appearance. Of course I started treating her for the infection, probably caught when the cat attacked her. She seemed to be getting better, but yesterday I noticed she wasn't eating as much as usual. Today, even less. I brought her in my room this morning, trying to understand with the vet why she became so ill in so little time. Not even an hour ago, while resting on my chest, she died. I bawled my eyes out while I gave her my goodbye and prepared a plant and the flowerpot where she'd lie from now on. As soon as I did this and fed her brother, I came home to find the youtube notification for this song. It's so magical to me that this song was just released, it made me so sad for her, but also glad she could experience some time with her brother on earth. I'm also very glad she will find an amazing afterlife wherever she'll go next. Thank you very much for this song Angelo and Sufjan. I miss you very much my little magpie.
