3:18 There are a few other ways to enter greenpath without vengeful, the 2 ways being killing the baldur with dreamshield instead of longnail by obtaining dreamshield through crystal peaks with lantern, or performing a shade skip to blue lake and going through city and waterways to fungal wastes, then making your way backwards from fungal to greenpath. (Blue lake shade skip can be performed itemless with impeccable precision, or with an extra mask to give the shade more hp to pogo) I know that this is very unoptimal for a speedrun, but i thought it might be of interest to other people.
Dreamshield may actually be optimal now for humans for regular Spelless using itemless shade skip, as it lets you skip FK, but that skip is ridiculously precise. Don't think any runners have actually done that new route yet, though. The old dreamshield route is substantially slower than human longnail route, though it has the benefit of not requiring longnail Baldurs (which are a lot harder than TAS makes it look.)
@@elokiyep I'd say longnail Baldur is actually harder to execute (there are fewer frame-perfect inputs in the shade skip, so it's more about precise positioning and shade manip.) In practice it takes less time for humans, though, because longnail Baldur 'resets' very quickly and allows you to try it over and over again. If you mess up the shade skip, you have to go into the hut and reset, then go over and lure the shade again. Even worse, you can easily mess it up on the last pogo, which means you need to die again to get a new shade. If you've ever watched a human trying to learn longnail Baldur, you can watch them spend several minutes just repeatedly turning around and swinging at the Baldur. The fact that people like sawayoshi can do it with so few retries is honestly amazing, as it's so incredibly precise.
I can do longnail baldur but I've only done 6 mask shade skip once over many many attempts. @@yousefguingab4784 We often describe TAS as a bot, since it's fun, but all the inputs are actually created by humans. We effectively play the game in super slow motion, with the ability to pause and rewind time if we encounter a timeline that we don't like (in particular, we manipulate rng to choose timelines we want, by using in-game actions to change the rng seed.) The route and strats come from human speedrunners, which are then adapted frame-by-frame to try to execute them as quickly as possible. I'd say that tool-assisted speedrunning requires a comparable amount of time to speedrunning as a human, grinding away at a category to master it, except that instead of spreading that mastery over multiple runs, culminating in your personal best, you spend all that time on a single run, developing it one frame at a time.
I was very confused when he didnt drop the ceiling onto one of the Watcher Knights and realized "wow it must just be faster to kill them" it took 7! Swings to kill each Watcher Knight, that's insane.
Sub-hour is definitely possible with some optimization. Things like not doing an extra FK cycle. :) The route can also probably still be tweaked a bit for more efficient geo collection. It currently gets a lot of incidental geo in order to skip rafter's seal, but it might be faster to get rafter's seal instead. Could possibly approach Lemm through the fountain (and do a silly skip for the fountain cutscene), then grab rafter's seal on the way back around to Lemm. Might also be able to skip the Any% journal then, though the geo there is tighter, since we want geo for Strength. Can backtrack from Shrumals if necessary, but is nice to be able to just grab it immediately on the way down to claw.
Not related to the video but for some reason it just hit me that when the soul master aggressively headbutts the ground he's actually performing desolate dive
There is actually another way to beat the baldur without spells that doesn’t require longnail: you buy the lumafly lantern, go through crystal peak to the resting grounds and collect dreamshield, then go back and kill the baldur with it
I also intuitively wait for shield husk, never thought of hitting the shield. maybe because I can anticipate his swing better, when I start slashing I might not have time to dodge out
There are actually 2 other ways to get into Greenpath (at least). One is to do a shade skip to blue lake, or get lantern, to get to resting grounds and get dreamshield, which can be used to kill the baldur, similar to longnail. Or you can go from blue lake down to city and through waterways to get to fungal wastes, and from there climb up to Greenpath.
It amazes me how skilled you “God Gamers” are at hollow knight, expecially after playing through hollow knight and doing some optional challenges like POP, up to P4, and some modded things I’ve really seen how skilled you have to be to pull off such feats. And what amazes me even more, is that after, what, 5 years? You still keep with this game, and still haven’t found out everything about the game. It really shows how great the game is. The TAS’ teach players about what’s at the edge of possible, and it’s still so crazy that they can pull of things that 5 year, 1000s of hour veterans of the game can’t, but I guess some things are just impossible for humans.
Nice to see people acknowledging no spell more. Beating the game without spell or focus is fun as all (to my knowledge I'm the first person to do it in the context of a full godhome ending playthrough without major glitches and with full records) hell and the prospect of it being done in speedruns is nice.
I'm pretty sure sorry can do the cool shade skip like 75% of the time it's in his meme speedruns video for big hopper%
Not related to the video but for some reason it just hit me that when the soul master aggressively headbutts the ground he's actually performing desolate dive
The No Eyes dream nail was probably my favorite moment in the run. It caught me so off guard
love your react videos continue like that😁
There is actually another way to beat the baldur without spells that doesn’t require longnail: you buy the lumafly lantern, go through crystal peak to the resting grounds and collect dreamshield, then go back and kill the baldur with it
the amount of times i fuck around in White palace (even though i dislike platforming sections a lot) i had no idea about that secret wall
we really appreciate the time put into this
pretty sure there was an extra stagger...
There was lol, the creator miscounted
I also intuitively wait for shield husk, never thought of hitting the shield. maybe because I can anticipate his swing better, when I start slashing I might not have time to dodge out
i love how the last hit was perfectly at the one hour mark
3:20
You can also use dreamshield. You can get it without any skips or anything.
39:04 return of the hornet stunlock
Drinking game: take a shot every time God Gamer says something to the effect of "we used to run this category without dreamgate"
@39:03 Hornet got pounded so hard, God Gamer himself needed to censor that LOL
The only other way to get into Greenpath would probably be Dreamshield, which is a lot funnier, but a lot slower lmao!
Dreamgate was introduced in hidden dreams, not lifeblood
35:36
fireb0rn: "And that'll be enough geo to get dreamgate"
Me: (Looks at geo)
Geo: (1)
Me: ...
6:00 Four staggers? Was this a mistake?
I think so
Yeah it was, they said they miscounted on the original tas video lol
Im so used to watching randomizers that i fully expected like c-dash where claw was
This video should be called "Fireb0rn explains all of the techniques in the Hollow Knight True Ending TAS Speedrun".
so crazy this guy went so long without doing facecam. handsome ass dude
SERVES YOU DARNED RIGHT, MARKOTH
These boss fights if they were in Mortal Kombat:
"Round 1 figh- Finish him!"
While watching this video I was playing whole night and I focused and where I should’ve been Hit I didn’t right after I focused.
Can we get a video explaining the any% speed run with all glitches? I tried to watch one of those speed runs, but it was super confusing.
Nice to see people acknowledging no spell more. Beating the game without spell or focus is fun as all (to my knowledge I'm the first person to do it in the context of a full godhome ending playthrough without major glitches and with full records) hell and the prospect of it being done in speedruns is nice. Honestly makes me want to run no soul again
The TAS had godsoul for 2:20 seconds
Very useful charm
The TAS Is actually just 10 disciples of the god gamer academy Playing all at once
I didnt notice that at the end all those shadows spreading during the final video might have a meaning about the calamities messing around in silkong
“Alright, e-pogo. *shrugs* Okay…swag-pogo.” 😂🤙
Hope some Tas' the Pantheons with Quickslash, Fury and the Unbreakable Strength just to know how fast you can actually beat it
Actually, Fire reacted to just such a thing
“I need to take a sip of water” idk why but this absolutely killed me
