  • I show you how to use flies and a bubble float on a spinning rod to catch a lot of trout. The spots are some fishing holes close to Chilliwack.
    This is one of the days of my vacation to Vancouver, BC Canada. I went trout fishing on the Vedder (or Chiliwack) River with my uncle Robin who is visiting from South Africa.

    What some of those trout may have lacked in size, they sure made up for it in beauty.

    You reminded that those "float & fly" tactics can work for so many applications. I hope you enjoyed the vacation.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  4 года назад

      Oh yeah it was good. Don't really care for the 6+ hours travel each way but it was a good time to go. What other situations do you use them for? Creeks?

    • @frankracz6736
      @frankracz6736 4 года назад +1

      I'm going to explore float and fly more. It seems the technique holds tight into some locations in the country, but not others. Yes, in the creeks during fall a great way to get trout and salmon is a white hair jig (1/32 oz) and bee moth. This was my dad's favorite for big gills and crappies-same rig exactly. I know in the southern reservoirs they use heavier hair jigs for smallies on longer rods. Float and fly seems wide open and versatile.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  4 года назад

      @@frankracz6736 yeah I got a fly rod and presenting stuff is nice but a lot of the other stuff seems to be a pain. This technique is great cause you can fish the flies without the hassle of a fly rod.

    • @frankracz6736
      @frankracz6736 4 года назад +1

      @Peeling Line, it dawned upon me that float & fly is one the most neglected fish catching techniques next to stitching-for multispecies fishing, urban, tough, both work anywhere it seems. W/ float & fly you get the fly purists who advise to never use a float, and conventional anglers who don't realize how simple and productive using a fly underneath a float is. I'll be exploring this subject further.

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  4 года назад

      @@frankracz6736 Probably worth a write up. I'd be interested in learning more about it. This was my first time doing it and hadn't really studied the subject. Amazing how shallow the learning curve is. Too bad flies are so expensive.

    Moving to yarrow in two weeks, so gonna be fishing the vedder alot now, qny chance catching them on spinners there, my fly reel is broken so I won't be fly fishing for a while, I have small soft plastics and eggs, powerbait but not sure if that will work in that current

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Год назад

      Sweet. My family says the sockeye are nuts right now. Just make sure you brush up on the regs. Some of that river was no bait when I was there a few years ago now.

    • @chrisread6292
      @chrisread6292 Год назад +1

      @@PeelingLine okay cool, thanks for the reply, I'm not too sure where to fish there but I've been told most of the spots are productive if you can beat the crowds, I've got waders though so I'm not afraid to walk or wade out to a good spot, I'm going to be right on community St in between fisherman's corner and the railway bridge so that's the stretch I'll most likely fish, any tips on bait color you can give

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine  Год назад +1

      @@chrisread6292 Go to vedder park early. Watch where people catch them. The best spots will get fish early. Watch what they use and where they cast. Then fish there when they are done. Then use the same techniques in similar spots that aren't so crowded.

      @@PeelingLine thanks, I'm a pond fisher mainly for largemouth bass and sometime I fish the rivers out here for pikeminnow and rainbows so not too familiar with salmon fishing or fishing a river like the vedder it's pretty out of my comfort zone for what I know, but thanks for the advice much appreciated I'll be out there the first week of September hopefully I can get some of those sockeye running
