I used to work in the control room at PPTV during this time period. I can tell you we were running and screaming and losing our minds. You could see the tape was wrinkled... Yuck I do not miss that!
Rexogamer it depended on the issue. Sometime the tape wrinkle was short lived and could pick up the program a few minutes down. But sometimes the wrinkle was through the entire thing. Just had to fast forward to find a good spot then go further in to see if it happened again before going back into the show. This show came to us on quad (4”) video tape. Those were huge reels over a foot across.
I remember seeing this same slide on PPTV as a kid when my 3rd grade class was in the middle of watching our regular educational programs that they used to air in the mid-morning (9-11 AM) on weekdays (it might of been "Dragons, Wagons & Wax"), it was on for a few minutes like this one was. (Must of had quite a difficulty to resolve :) ).
I was on a website a few months ago and they had a few of these "please Stand By" moment (which I believe were mainly from the late 70s/early 80s. The website is fuzzymemoeies (or something similar). These moments are fun to watch.
The music does not start until after 2:55 and will resolve technical difficulties at 5:25 to return to a program on Prairie Public Television when the music fades out.

For those who may be wondering, the fill music which starts at about 2:55 is from the first movement of J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #5.
novice841 Thanks for the info.
2:55

Over 30 years ago. Thankfully times have changed for technology. Pretty creepy!
This one is kinda creepy. The back of the TV, the off-center text.

When they start playing Bach, you know it's a serious issue.
that tv on the slide looks like its been made in ms paint
Considering the hardware around that time, this probably would've been made on an Amiga.
I wish I could find the one for BGSU. They used to play the Charlie Brown song with the station logo.
