We all like decent gapping. In my game I carry 2 clubs at 19°, both giving very different results. A Hybrid that gives plenty of height and adequate distance. The old school 2 iron gives me a lower flight, a lot lower but ideal into the wind. Here in the UK where the wind is prominent it has to be the best option. I liked the review very informative but there in California it is an easier option, over in the UK not so much
Sameish here, just got fitted for 2 24 degree clubs, the hybrid is an extra 10 yards of carry and 10 ft of peak height. Honestly thought about replacing my 5 wood with a 3 hybrid as well for the versatility.
"Hybrid / Rescues have been around about 20 years". Actually it's more like 50 years. The first 1 I became aware of when I started playing in the early-eighties was the 1976 Cobra Baffler (huge twin brass rails on the bottom, a further refinement of the Little Slammer made by Founder Tom Crow for his former Company PGF in Australia). This spawned many imitations including the Stan Thompson Ginty (a keel soled 7 wood head on a 3 wood shaft). I played both. Around 1987 I discovered TaylorMade Cleek / Rescues. First introduced in 1983 as the Tour Cleek, The small headed metal woods had steel runners on the soles and were very useful out of long rough (I still have SEVERAL different models that sneak into the bag from time to time). I am also still gaming a full bag of TaylorMade clubs that include the new hybrids and I must say I prefer the larger headed ones (I REALLY struggle with the tiny headed Tour Hybrids). Perhaps my years of successfully using similar size clubs come into play here. Keep up the good work!
Just ditched my 5 wood in favor of the qi10 3 hybrid. Love it and it’s so versatile. My only issue is I keep questioning myself if I should have gotten the tour model. I play the LS driver and still have my stealth 2 plus 3 wood. Less spin is what I need. I’ve never had an issue getting the ball up, it always been about keeping it down for me. When I hit the core model driver, I had serious ballooning issues no matter what I did, so the LS was the obvious fix, so I’m wondering if the tour might work a little better. I do love what i have and it does seem like it’s the more versatile of the twofl
You love what you have, that's key! Yes as a general call out the Tour will fly lower with less spin but a hybrid is a very personal club. The stock shafts are lighter and the lie angles (for me) are 1 degree higher than where I would like them on most of the woods hence why I bend clubs flatter and use stronger shafts. These two factors and the reason TM have gone down a higher MOI route with their products this season indicate that they are focusing towards the higher hcp golfer. Clearly an advertising video… but, to show me that a three hybrid with less loft and is at least an inch longer flies farther might be the biggest joke of all. Of course that is the result. 3 hybrids are not 3 iron replacements anymore. Hybrid loft jacking?
I have deep ties with TaylorMade but I think this vid applies to anyone out there looking at a hybrid club. Ref the joke part to give a little more context. I learnt to play at a coastal town in the UK. For me to look down on 22* and play it at 3i length is just something I'm not feeling as a PLYR. To get a 3i out of my bag would be tough hence why I carry the 4 wood, to go deeper and answer your point, I made the 3 hybrid as this would be my preference and I'd then go 3 wood over 4 wood and drop straight to 4i hence why I placed in the knock down shot (scenario 3 I believe). I think I could have done a better job explaining that but when all is said and done that's what the comment section is for. The shaft at that length is where I'd have it to sit in to a different bag set up and the 22* just not for me as too lofty and an even higher apex. Albeit you could have worded your comment a little different it's a valid call out and something I'll address the next time I talk hybrids or in the case of TaylorMade Rescue clubs.
Trottie, convince your engineering dept to come up with some bendable hosels for the average Joe. Its a bit of shame that hybrids are advocated so well for, and yet hardly any (if at all) of the major OEMs offer the ability for the average golfer to at least have a proper lie angle (at minimum) for them. Its nice and all that the tour vans have the fancy block molds, etc...but the average guy is left out in the cold on this. I've never understood why what can be one of the more important aspects to make these work for the player is overlooked for the average consumer.
@@edj9961 That's not really the way that works. The average Joe does not have the ability to tinker with that. OEMs do not build to that spec, so no, that's not an answer either
I agree. I don’t understand why at a minimum the adjustment sleeve couldn’t go in all the hybrids. And easier than bending for us. Can’t be cost, at the prices they are selling these!
@@mariofonseca9267 there is an adjustable sleeve in the tour and a fixed in the standard. Obv the std can only be bent on tour. This is one where you do need a tour van to play the std at whatever lie or loft you would require.
@@trottiegolf Professor i get that. However for me who is the 2 degrees up player who could really play that Max hybrid but can’t because of the lie being off and impacting accuracy this is a bummer. Hey what are your thoughts on the Qi10 max hybrid vs Stealth 2 HD Hybrid i currently have the 3 and 5 hybrids in the stealth 2 HD and love them BUT i need a 4 hybrid am i better to find an HD in the 4 hybrid or is it a better jump to the Qi10 max in the 4 hybrid ? please inform cheers from Vulcan Canada
Long iron for me goes a bit shorter, but way more accurate than a hybrid. Driving iron is my choice
Yea I'm down that path too , to be fair
So, you're sayin' all I need as a single hybrid and I can dominate the entire course? Got it.
I mean it's useful
About 1% of golfers can hit a 3 iron with any consistency. I’d go with that regular rescue.
Hybrids ALL DAY. Not even close. Swing half as hard, more forgiveness and goes further.

If adjustable, us average joes will overtinker and complain the expensive club doesn’t work…just have a fit and they can build the spec properly mate
I would call this lazy engineering.
Now the question- couldn’t we order directly from taylormade and have them bend the bonded hybrid as a custom order?
The intro music is atrocious
Buy new clubs and starve for months idk
Look it all depends on the individual golfer. Just like drivers, cavity backs, blades, hybrids or long irons it’s individual preference. Personally I can hit long irons fine but I prefer hybrids. I carry a 19 degree and a 22 degree basically a 4&5 iron 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
