    Nice first run. Congrats on the trip. Your wife is a riot! I was rolling hearing some of her comments. Too bad trax doesn't show the boxes on thier site. Would have been interesting to see them. Have a great 4th of July you two.

    Many years ago, while on those roads, I got chased by tornadoes... at least it looks like you have better weather!
    So, just add water to the tire and a box grows in it's place? That's awesome! Can't wait to see what you have designed and Lou has built.

    Awesome first drive! Ballsy to go that far but with all the work you did the truck is super reliable. I talk to my grease gun the same way. Once you get the box on and built out the additional weight will hold you at 45-48 mph on those 6% grades....

    Oof even my Cummins powered freight-liner mail truck gets 10-12 mpg. But it doesn’t have the performance these have. Cool video. Love it. 👍🏻

    You drive an LMTV 2400 miles and the only thing that broke was the grease gun? That’s what’s up!
    Also, what ever he did for sound insulation worked extremely well.

      There are a couple of videos. The only change I would make at this point is using wool batting for the back wall rather than hard foam board.

    Thank you. Every time I start to think one of these might be a good idea as a daily, I come back here to think about the maintenance schedule, and the cost of fuel and tires.

      No, those where new drive shafts and I wanted to make sure they had plenty of lube.

      Also: 1- Wife is hilarious, you need more camera work from her. B- I know the LMTV camper was the star, I just can't help but love all the Samurai in the background. I'm a bit biased. Lastly- A Lincoln grease gun is $20, why would you Hazard Freight yourself?

      I have used regular gas stations. I mostly refuel at truck stops. The pumps are faster and I can use my EFS fuel card.

    I’m planning on getting a M1078 as a second vehicle and as a fun weekend rider if the height limit bars are open at my job at fedex I’ll drive it to work sometimes I’m getting a Nissan Titan first then a Utv then I’ll be going on gov planet to get my M1078 get an antique tag for it because I’ll be getting a 1990s model then my insurance will be lower on it I might do a few long trips in it just for kicks it’ll be one fun ride maybe I’ll take our dogs for a ride in it can’t wait to get one they are so cool

    Congratulations on your first voyage! You are just up the road from me. HF grease guns are garbage.
    Toss it. I did. Had a cordless Lincoln. Meh....

      Yeah I wanted a small cheap gun for the trip that I wouldn’t care if it disappeared. It worked but I’ll be swapping it out for something better.

    I we'll be buying my stewart snd Stevenson truck shortly in the next few months. I ran across a company that is installing air rides on the cab do you feel this might be something necessary.

      There is already air ride on the cabs. But the stock shock and bag combinations are prone to failure at this age. Which company are you looking at to do the air ride?

    Lol. My 1994 jeep grand Cherokee gets 8 mpg in gas. Yes I realize your diesel, but still. I can feel your feul pain. Haha

    How comfortable is the ride , how maneuverable ? and can you run Black diesel in it ?

      It’s quite comfortable once you replace the stock seats and as maneuverable as can be expected. I would not put wast oil in it. Some guys have run it, but I wouldn’t want to risk it.

    Do you have any idea if the 1997 Stewart and Stevenson has a K26 relay. We’re missing that on the army truck. Would you know if there were updates on the 1997 Stewart and Stevenson regarding the relays? We’re missing a few

    Thinking about a tractor like this to pull an equipment trailer. You think the power is there? Do they offer a higher horse power option?

      The newer models have slightly higher HP then the older models. That said, they all have a towing capacity just over 10k.

      The ride is surprisingly good with the new seats. We did 10 hours a day without any issues.

    What’s it like to drive that far in one of these? Exhausting?

      With the new seats, sound insulation, balanced drive shafts, balanced tires, and gears. 10 hours a day was quite present. I wouldn’t do it in a stock truck. We still need hearing protection when we have the windows down for a long time on the highway.

    I would like to know what top speed is please?

      The Goodyear tires I have on the truck are rated to 68mph. I’ve inadvertently had it to 75mph though. That is with the 3.07 gears. Stock 3.90 gears max speed is 60.

    If you were to hook the pad ock the other way, that way if the padlock should become unlocked, you won't loosw the padlock

      How fast is it with the hwy gears? Was it worth it and did you sacrifice a lot of power?

      The tires I have are rated for 68MPH so I only drive 60 or 65. It’s less about the speed and more about the reduction in RPM. The truck will go over 75, but I would not recommend it. That said, Comfortable cruising at 60-65 vs peddle to the floor 55 with stock gears, 100% worth it to me.

      With the sound deadening and new seats, it’s fairly comfortable. You do need earplugs when you roll the windows down though.

    Yikes an LMTV isn't for those with low credit limits. By my count that's more than 900$ in fuel, something like 40 cents a mile.

    The only people who should be buying one of these, is someone who has there retirement fully funded, and a few hundred thousand left over. At 8 MPG's and a gross polluter, this clearly states that there is no global warming from the owners piont of few.
