Dude..... so I am thinking about buying a M1078 so i start watching a bunch of videos about them. And then I get to yours, and you’re wearing the shirt we did as a fundraiser for my little brother. I think that’s a sign, I need a 1078! Thanks for the love brother. ❤️
Oh I’m sure we can find you a M1078 of you want one Also we just got our latest order from bunker branding. #Meardoesaburnout love what you do. Matt, keep up the energy.
Just drove by you on interstate 90, headed towards Missoula. We were admiring your amazing ride, when we noticed the RUclips logo. Naturally, we just had to check it out! Hope you're road trip is filled with fantastical experiences that keep you motivated to continue doing what you do! Keep those videos coming!!!
Nice first run. Congrats on the trip. Your wife is a riot! I was rolling hearing some of her comments. Too bad trax doesn't show the boxes on thier site. Would have been interesting to see them. Have a great 4th of July you two.
Many years ago, while on those roads, I got chased by tornadoes... at least it looks like you have better weather! So, just add water to the tire and a box grows in it's place? That's awesome! Can't wait to see what you have designed and Lou has built.
Awesome first drive! Ballsy to go that far but with all the work you did the truck is super reliable. I talk to my grease gun the same way. Once you get the box on and built out the additional weight will hold you at 45-48 mph on those 6% grades....
You drive an LMTV 2400 miles and the only thing that broke was the grease gun? That’s what’s up! Also, what ever he did for sound insulation worked extremely well.
Thank you. Every time I start to think one of these might be a good idea as a daily, I come back here to think about the maintenance schedule, and the cost of fuel and tires.
Nice build Chad, I got about the same MPG from Utah to Montreal last week. Could you give me the link to that digital GPS speedo with the elevation display you have on your truck? Looks cool wouldn't mind getting one for mine. Thanks
Also: 1- Wife is hilarious, you need more camera work from her. B- I know the LMTV camper was the star, I just can't help but love all the Samurai in the background. I'm a bit biased. Lastly- A Lincoln grease gun is $20, why would you Hazard Freight yourself?
I’m planning on getting a M1078 as a second vehicle and as a fun weekend rider if the height limit bars are open at my job at fedex I’ll drive it to work sometimes I’m getting a Nissan Titan first then a Utv then I’ll be going on gov planet to get my M1078 get an antique tag for it because I’ll be getting a 1990s model then my insurance will be lower on it I might do a few long trips in it just for kicks it’ll be one fun ride maybe I’ll take our dogs for a ride in it can’t wait to get one they are so cool
Congratulations on your first voyage! You are just up the road from me. HF grease guns are garbage. Toss it. I did. Had a cordless Lincoln. Meh.... This is what you want: Alemite 500-E Grease Gun, Develops up to 10,000 psi, Delivery 1 oz./21 Strokes, 16 oz. Bulk or 14 oz. Cartridge, with 18" Hose & Coupler, 3-Way Loading Available on Amazon.
I we'll be buying my stewart snd Stevenson truck shortly in the next few months. I ran across a company that is installing air rides on the cab do you feel this might be something necessary.
There is already air ride on the cabs. But the stock shock and bag combinations are prone to failure at this age. Which company are you looking at to do the air ride?
It’s quite comfortable once you replace the stock seats and as maneuverable as can be expected. I would not put wast oil in it. Some guys have run it, but I wouldn’t want to risk it.
hi just stumbled onto your video where was your truck refurbished am just starting to do research on getting a m1079 or m1083 great looking truck congrats
Do you have any idea if the 1997 Stewart and Stevenson has a K26 relay. We’re missing that on the army truck. Would you know if there were updates on the 1997 Stewart and Stevenson regarding the relays? We’re missing a few
Do you plan on building the interior of the living space or is the manufacture of the box going to build everything. who did you choose for a box mfg. do they have a web page I'm interested
With the new seats, sound insulation, balanced drive shafts, balanced tires, and gears. 10 hours a day was quite present. I wouldn’t do it in a stock truck. We still need hearing protection when we have the windows down for a long time on the highway.
Ok, I got typing and realized this wasn't going to fit in the comments section. so here is a link to the blog post it turned in to. brokeoverland.com/f/so-you-want-to-buy-an-lmtv
The Goodyear tires I have on the truck are rated to 68mph. I’ve inadvertently had it to 75mph though. That is with the 3.07 gears. Stock 3.90 gears max speed is 60.
The tires I have are rated for 68MPH so I only drive 60 or 65. It’s less about the speed and more about the reduction in RPM. The truck will go over 75, but I would not recommend it. That said, Comfortable cruising at 60-65 vs peddle to the floor 55 with stock gears, 100% worth it to me.
Can I get a bulk discount. :) With the sound deadening and new seats, it’s fairly comfortable. You do need earplugs when you roll the windows down though.
The only people who should be buying one of these, is someone who has there retirement fully funded, and a few hundred thousand left over. At 8 MPG's and a gross polluter, this clearly states that there is no global warming from the owners piont of few.

If Matt (@DemolitionRanch) gets an LMTV, he'll have to mount a .50 to it! Won't that be fun!
@@BrokeOverLandcould you help me find one? Been looking all over the web. I want one just like yours! It’s beautiful

Very cool truck.

We saw some storm chaser Riggs while we were at a rest stop. Those folks a little unhinged.
I figure u will fit out the box. Look forward to next video. 👍

Saw you stuck in traffic today! Vehicle looks great in the slow lane, lol
Oof even my Cummins powered freight-liner mail truck gets 10-12 mpg. But it doesn’t have the performance these have. Cool video. Love it. 👍🏻
That was a great video. I think you need to include the wife In more of your videos the commentary was the best. A plus michelle
Awesome build! Subscribed!

was there a vid on the sound proofing? Can t recall
There are a couple of videos. The only change I would make at this point is using wool batting for the back wall rather than hard foam board.
Thank you. Every time I start to think one of these might be a good idea as a daily, I come back here to think about the maintenance schedule, and the cost of fuel and tires.
Haha I’m glad I can be the canary in the coal mine for you. They really are excellent trucks though.
@@BrokeOverLand, I believe it! Just waaaay more rugged than I need for my town boy life. Can't be overcompensating with everything.
@@BrokeOverLand is the it really 1200 mile intervals for the drive shafts? Looking at these as a base for a camper, great videos
No, those where new drive shafts and I wanted to make sure they had plenty of lube.

Did you honk and wave? If so, I saw you too :)

HF Grease gun was a moment of weak..er.. cheapness.
2:25 steel toed flip flops.
There is also a place to do the brakes, which is also a good idea
how nice!!!! did you buy that new.
Love the truck, not so keen on the mpg, but it goes hand in hand with what it’s designed for
Awesome truck!! Where did you find the digital altimeter? Very nice setup...
I got it from Amazon. amzn.to/47D9l80
Where do you refuel at regular gas stations?!?!?
This thing is awesome!
I have used regular gas stations. I mostly refuel at truck stops. The pumps are faster and I can use my EFS fuel card.

Lol. My 1994 jeep grand Cherokee gets 8 mpg in gas. Yes I realize your diesel, but still. I can feel your feul pain. Haha

hi just stumbled onto your video where was your truck refurbished am just starting to do research on getting a m1079 or m1083 great looking truck congrats
Unfortunately I’ve had to do all the refurbishing myself. If I was to do it again I’d buy one through Martin over at fmtvsales.com

I will be building the box interior. Trax off grid is building the exterior, skin, and installing my windows and doors. Http://Traxoffgrid.com
The army truck is M1081. Do you know which relays are essential?
Not off hand. But you can get the wording diagrams from www.steelsoldiers.com/forums/present-conflict-vehicles-tms.119/
Wiring…. Stupid auto correct.
Nice
Are you running highway (307?) gears? Or the stock ones?
We are running 307’s
Where did this venture begin?
Probably Mid-life crisis. :) honestly I could do a whole video on how I came to this project.
Any news on how the new box for the truck is going?
Trax off grid is still working on it. I should be getting it back from his shop soon.
Nice!
Thinking about a tractor like this to pull an equipment trailer. You think the power is there? Do they offer a higher horse power option?
The newer models have slightly higher HP then the older models. That said, they all have a towing capacity just over 10k.
So...how was the ride? Did either of you get saddle sore or seasick?
The ride is surprisingly good with the new seats. We did 10 hours a day without any issues.
What’s it like to drive that far in one of these? Exhausting?
With the new seats, sound insulation, balanced drive shafts, balanced tires, and gears. 10 hours a day was quite present. I wouldn’t do it in a stock truck. We still need hearing protection when we have the windows down for a long time on the highway.

About the same as any commercial truck.
