  • In today's video, we are with father Phil having a look at our Massey Ferguson 35, unfortunately, it's not an x. we go through its history with our family, where it came from, what it used to do and we also look at how to tell the difference between a 35 and a 35x which there isn't a big difference in.
Hope you enjoy, any questions hit me down in the comments below, thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe for more. Videos every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Phil & Father Phil, there are a few more differences between the MF35 & MF35X other than the engine... the backend gear ratios are set up differently, the 35X backend is slower to compensate for its faster rpm engine so giving both tractors the same ground speed for pto work for example, diff lock was optional not standard on the 35X... some left the factory without it, MP was fitted to some 35s, I have one... non diesels built during the 35X era when MP was an option were badged MF35 as they didn’t have the “eXtra power” diesel fitted. The MF135 was very similar to 35X, similar hp but direct injection and overall heavier build, a bit beefed up over the 35X and 3 point linkage response control on the RHS of the centre housing. Really enjoyed the history of your tractor, I have an ex-UK late MF35 as well.

We have a 135 that my grandfather bought in 1969, the exact year my father was born. It was the first real tractor we just had a small steyr before but it was hardly pulling a one furrow plough. The 135 did all the work for about 25 years on the farm until we got a 590 and because it had a loader it also helped to build a few houses and also was snow plowing in the winter because when there was a lot of snow the neighbours steyr kept getting stuck. Im so glad we still have it and to this day it does all the normal loader work and we also load lumber in the forest and onto our little sawmill. Even after about 20000 hours with just a headgasked change everything works just the pto clutch is hard to engage. Im so glad we still got it and im looking forward to restore it sometime. 👍

I have a 35 3 cylinder without a diff lock reconditioned the engine 2 year ago getting the draft control sorted and set up tractor not painted in its full glorious working clothes have a soon to be potato field to plough for planting
She ploughs the ground and plants the spuds with a Ferguson bell dropper sprays the spuds hardy sprayer and digs them with a ransomes spinner and kicks the hay with a millipede and rows it with a hay bob and draws it all in with flat bed trailer and brings the turf home too
want one of those 311 harvesters after seeing your videos
I love using her for the enjoyment and pleasure
Have a TVO T20 too I restored her and she also gets put into work too love the smell of the kerosene burning usually used to draw the seed to the field and draw the spuds out of the field using a link box
Love the videos love the vintage especially being put to work what they were made for and the interesting knowledge

I worked from 1964 to 1977 at a MF main agent and from memory the difference between the 35 and the 35X was the engine, the engine changed from the A3152 to the AD3152 the latter being AD for direct injection. If you look at the cylinder head on a 35 there are 3 pre combustion chamber caps on the side each held on with three nuts, the 35X didnt have these the injectors went straight into the combustion chamber, this was the same engine as the 135. I also think the the liners were changed from cast iron to chromehard at the dame time.

To the best of my knowledge Phil, that 35 is what they called s MF35 deluxe.
It was the model that was the last of 35s to promote the 35x that was coming down the line.
We have 1 the same, minus the diff lock. It has all the same, long mudguards, wide steps and the cover over the fan belts. I was told ,after some several debates in the dealers, a man that I worked with had served his time in a dealer in 60s/70s and remembered this. Apparently they were made for 6months prior to the launch of the 35x in July 1962(correct me if I'm wrong in year).
From memory ours is registered Jan 62 ( or what ever yr it was ). I must just check our serial number to compare to what you said.
Your dad is a world or knowledge!

I thought a 35 has an a3.152 perkins non direct injection engine and the other four cylinder engine the 23c that was avaliable and a 35x has a ad3.152
perkins direct injection engine. The difference was seen with injectors on the a3.153 was vertical and had swirl cambers while the ad3.152 injectors was at an angle. The letters before the serial number on the plate on the dash will tell you the chassis type, the engine and wether it had a dual clutch or not or multi or a diff lock. My 35 has snm and the 6 digit number and that i found out it was an stardard chassis(S), a3.152(N), dual clutch(M) and the 6 digit code gave the year it was produced (1961).

  • @ColinMill1
    @ColinMill1 2 месяца назад

I believe that early 35xs did not necessarily have diff-locks as the early brochures listed the diff-lock as an optional extra. Also, the engine remained an A3-152 for early ones. In the end I believe the only reliable test is the PTO gearing. The 35x has a 540 PTO speed of 1700 engine rpm while the 35 has a 540 pto speed of 1500 engine rpm. Just about everything else could be changed after the event. For example the DPA pump was differently set up on the 35x and placarded as such but how many have had this changed over the years? Also, the tractormeter could have been swapped if it failed and 35x ones are thin on the ground now.

Thanks Adam. Yes I googled them after I left the message.
Do you know why they packed up?
Were they still Massey at the point they packed up? I think they were but not certain.

    The 35x had a diff lock like a 135 the 35 didn't have a diff lock

Not quite right, Diff lock was optional on the 35 and 35x but 99 percent of 35x's had it fitted.
