It really is. Unlike Duck, You Sucker which was a movie about change, this is a movie about lost and regret. Mistakes that Noodles could never take back.
This song in the movie break my heart. And every time I hear this song reminds me of love, suffering and betrayal happened in that movie. I feel sorry for you Noodles.
"Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away / Now it looks as though they're here to stay" These lyrics fit the tone of the movie and Noodles' character so well. He thought he could escape from his past misdeeds by fleeing to another city, but he realizes that he can't run away from them forever and must confront them.
He never confronted them. He's still in this opium theater, eaten alive by his guilt. This hole "old noodles" arc is his own far-fetched, opium and guilt driven fantasy to justify and deny what he did. There is no happy ending, no redemtion and no closure for Noodles. Unfortunately
@@americanopseudopotacie5876 I'm not sure if it's denial. Noodles was at fault for many things but it was Max who was completely at fault for his own death and the death of his friends regardless of which version of events was true; Noodles was simply trying to prevent Max from doing something stupid when he tipped the police. It was perhaps the first truly selfless thing he did that unfortunately backfired in ways that he couldn't control. "You see, Mr Secretary... I have a story also, a little simpler than yours. Many years ago, I had a friend, a dear friend. I turned him in to save his life, but he was killed. But he wanted it that way. It was a great friendship. But it went bad for him, and it went bad for me too. Good night, Mr Bailey." Whether or not Noodles could find redemption at the end doesn't really matter but I think he made some semblance of peace with himself at the end by confronting the truth.
I immediately fell in love with this version when the first time I listened to it by the time I watched the movie. It’s such a shame we can’t find the full one which I think it has never been released.
this song made me tear up twice; the first time I heard the Beatles' version and second when I heard it in the movie. such a beautiful song, what a movie!
The singer is Douglas Meakin, originally from Liverpool, he moved to Italy in the ‘60 and had great success with a group called “The Motowns”. He then did an incredible career and worked with prominent Italian and international artists. He did several movies with Morricone. ( Meakin cooperated in at least 80 movies, wrote and sang many songs). A versatile Artist much loved from his colleagues and from the people. He is 79 years old and still rocks as he still holds concerts with the Superobots group, mainly in Rome, as he also did iconic anime’s songs in Italian. A living legend.
I have a private RUclips playlist with a mix of music from both Once Upon A Time In America and Once Upon A Time In The West as I find they blend in well together. I play the list almost every night as it really relaxes me, clears my head and takes me into a nice settled sleep. If you don’t mind I will insert this brilliant piece as it’s a very beautiful melody. Great Editing, good job.

Even though it is adapted from the Beatles , Ennio Morricone is an absolute genius. He was the reason I watched Sergio Leone movies :)
He was a major influence to these movies
