    One of the problems with modern cycling is that many come to it later in life & don't have the natural progression though the club system, from schoolboy to senior, gaining knowledge and help along the way. Chris's videos are great. Plugging that gap. Super helpful & brimming with knowledge. I really love how the focus is on enjoyment rather than spending money or feeling obliged to fit in...

    Just an FYI:
    humans can read very quickly. This means, that if you let longer Texts that are interrelated, such as @3:24 you can read it very quickly and return concentrating on what you are saying. Otherwise, you have to wait to return the attention to what's really important until everything has been shown, which can be done much faster horizontally instead of vertically.
    (sorry for the bad English)

    Hi Chris! Really insightful, well-explained, and down-to-earth video as usual :) However, just one thing with the way you display extra information as text on the screen, such as at 3:18, it might be easier to instead display it all as one line of text on the screen at the same time, as opposed to it being fast scrolling. Just so that you can pause the video and read the text, without needing to try and multitask reading and listening for 20 seconds as it scrolls up the screen, as you're still talking. All in all, though, I really enjoy your videos, so keep up the good work!

    Hi Chris. Great video and info as usual. Don't have a TT bike and have got back into cycling during the last year at 66 (almost 67) years of age. I am pretty flexible and light, 59kg 5' 5" tall and can ride with a decent saddle to bar drop. I have been practicing riding on the drops but notice that my HR actually increases by a few BPM for the same speed when I do. Is this normal until you get used to riding in that position? Cheers

    Great information Chris. I just picked up a Tri bike for 500 euros and love the idea of doing TTs. I'm new at this so I have to learn to hold myself back and not just try to go as fast as I can for a given time. Pacing is a problem of mine right now. Do you do anything differently when it comes to hydration, such as electrolytes or is it just H2O?

    • @chrisopie87
      @chrisopie87  4 года назад +1

      Thank you, good luck with the new bike! Practice makes perfect regarding the pacing. On the whole an electrolyte drink is my favourite on the bike, its easier to drink than water and can prevent dehydration on longer rides.

    even though i have never done a timetrial i usually prepare my long rides like you describe :)
    its about distributing my intensity so i dont burn myself when halfway on a long ride (100-170 km)
    Im eating bananas and some bars (water with tablets in them) and if im feeling a bit tired ill drink a small redbull or 2 just to manage more. The other day i was riding at 40+ km/h for 20 km or so and i had to be infront since no one else would :(

    • @ozmadman
      @ozmadman 4 года назад +1

      moshie freilich I would spend a few weeks doing longer( 2 to 3 hour ) low intensity rides to build your aerobic fitness back up say 3 times a week and gradually add more intense rides after that but a lot shorter. The more intense the shorter the ride!. You wouldn't' have lost that much fitness in 3 weeks so you will be back up to your pre accident fitness before you know it

    • @chrisopie87
      @chrisopie87  4 года назад

      Hi Moshie Freillich, Give yourself time to recover. Your body has had to work hard since the crash and infection. Your body will feel this, but you won't have lost too much in 3 weeks. Take your time and don't over do it. Fuel your body with good food and water. Enjoy riding your bike! Rest when you need to!

    Since you say going faster doesn’t interest you I’ll explain what those people mean by it. They aren’t looking to raise an avg to an arbitrary speed. They’re interested in having the fitness to be faster. All of these tips only work for people who aren’t yet doing them. And therefore they only allow a single improvement. Once you’re doing them that’s it. What would be way more useful and to the point are training tips for how to increase your speed.
