That Western truck and tractor that everyone referred you to. Said; If you run a calibration on that transmission any problems will be revealed. I thought that very informative.
Usually when I split a tractor, I repaint any marks I may have caused, bolt heads etc, only for the simple fact of inhibiting rust. A lot of shops do this, it has nothing to do with hiding anything.
The 8530 is definitely running quieter and glad your not having any issues with the transmission, just hay that's a little too moist to bale for now.Tomorrow will be another day that you'll do in a different way.
so much quieter now, that screen was causing a restriction and would have made the trans fail sooner or later. Glad you got it cleaned out, now it has full hydraulic flow and proper pressure. Theresa is too cute, you make a great couple!
My little 1025r sub compact tractor at the 50 hour service required by John Deer had a bunch of metal shavings in the transmission and they said that was normal. However it is now been in their shop for 4 weeks with transmission failures one month before the end of warranty. So it was close. But I wished I had my tractor back so I can mow my grass. I may have to use the brush hog to mow the yard. Lol
Wess, Check with your Deere dealer, there is a dtac solution talking about the shim material. It comes from the front differential assembly that they used thin shims during set up and when breaks in the thin shims will work out behind the bearing and make it all the way to the trans sump screen. If the shim material is very thin they say to clean it out and is normal. If it is thick it instructs you to re set bearings in front ils assy. They changed the bearing shim set up in the ils diff assy to end play instead of preload now so the the thin shims make no problem with the assy.
The local JD dealership has a tech line you can call when you are working on projects yourself so you do not waste the service managers time. It’s ha been very helpful to me as I like to do as much as I can to help save on repair costs
Wes, the Western Truck guy gave good advise in the last 8530 video, I didn't quite get a good look at the metal you pulled out but it's not uncommon to find some in the screen, especially if it has never been changed, of course you don't know the full history but you do believe that it has been removed at one point. Also, typically when a mechanical issue that it related to the actual transmission shifting throughout its ranges, you'll either set off a PTI code or will force you to sit and calibrate like you have had happen before. If you get a code like this PTI 523912.05/.13 in the future, it will be a calibration error and a CU speed calibration issue, they are the most common. These IVT's are designed to do frequent active calibrations to both protect itself and also prevent the operator from getting into a uncontrollable situation. They are finicky and easy to set codes, if you don't have any there, that's a good sign really. Also, what do you have the transmission setting at? I found a DTAC (Dealer Technical Assistance Center) case that states the erratic shifting could be caused while accelerating to a high speed, sounds like when you shift into F2 for transport. Maybe try a different mode and see what happens? It's the small knob on the left side of the side panel near the air vent. Complaint or Symptom : IVT transmissions producing an undesired rough shift and undesired engine speed increase over 2200 rpm IVT Mode 2 or 3 while using SCVs with continuous flow setting. Problem or Situation : Issue is a result of ACU setting transmission acceleration request high while fuel economy mode is active and wheel speeds are changing. Issue should not occur in Manual Mode or IVT Mode 1. Solution : Recommend to operate IVT in Manual Mode or Mode 1 setting if experiencing complaint as described above. Have decent experience with these as a JD tech in farm country, central IA, would love to help any way I can!
Your plungerhead was jammed against a lot of material and would not start up again. The friction clutch between the pto shaft and the flywheel was slipping. I have had this happen, and had to manually release bale chamber pressure to get things started, just like you did. It may have been caused by running the machine in auto bale density mode, with a rusty bale chamber, and not yet a full compacted bale. Krone recommends 750 psi or so of manual bale chamber pressure, until you have made a couple of bales, and then switching over to automatic bale density. Now, I always look at the pto speed readout from the baler terminal, whenever I start up the tractor pto, to make sure that I am not slipping the friction clutch on the baler flywheel. I do not have the hydraulic start assist on my smaller baler, so I do not know if that would force the flywheel to turn or not.
This is the video I've been waiting for, to see what route you took on this. Guessing from 4 gauge's comment you may have done what I could've been tempted to do & ran with it after cleaning the crap out, gonna watch the vid now and see. Hopefully you've had a few hours and not picked up any more crap in the screen. Fingers crossed for ya.
The 8030 Series were the first with IVT Transmissions and they sure had its Problems. Here in Germany you would have a hard time trying to sell it because nobody(including east european people)wants to buy an 8030 with ivt. With the 16 Speed Powershift otoh, you can sell it immediately and for a much higher Price. Sure, the ivt fits better to the baler, but then maybe a used claas xerion is the better choice. The older ones even had cat engines in it.
In America it was the late model 8020 series with IVT, though very rare they can be occasionally found on websites like tractorhouse etc. Either way I would presume that deere at the manufacturing date of that tractor had not perfected the IVT transmission. Even today I am skeptical as there are not many newer tractors with around 8k hours on them that I know of. I have no idea how these transmissions will perform in their later years of labor.
Their own ivt in the 7 and 8 series still has 3 Ranges only, so its Performance is quite a bit behind a Tractor with an european ivt. I've driven a 7280r ivt , it is just a nightmare for transport work uphill, "my" 7250r e23 performs better.Back in the days we had one 7810ivt and one Autoquad and they only performed about the same at heavy tillage work.
Wes when we had a 994 head on our R450 JD cutter we took the two shields on either side of the header off that packs full of hay and built two small doors with a latch that would allow our arms and hands to fit in which would allow us to remove the built up hay behind those shields, and it worked great for us. Just a recommendation for you being that the built up hay behind those shields could cause a fire
You can get those head lamps with belt tied battery packs (we're talking about the same type of cells that power your average electric drill for example). I got mine off fleaBay for 30USD (edit to mention that i'm talking about the whole package, light, cables, battery, stuff) and it lasts about 10 hours with a single KREE LED module in continuous use.
It looks like the inside tread blocks of the front tires of the 8530 are significantly more worn down than the outside blocks. Is this a trick of the camera or if not, what may have caused that? I went back over it and it seems like both sides are roughly equal, maybe half and inch or so block height difference. I also just noticed that its independent front suspension, that tells me it might be camber change with ride height change, though im not sure why the front of this tractor would be sitting low to cause the negative camber to wear the tires like that. Im curious.
I always cut my first bale before it is out of the chamber, that way it spreads itself out as it falls off the back and is easier to re- bale. Hopefully this could be a useful tip for you or someone else.
Lot of times when breakin period there’s metal in the trans pan on a truck or car prob tractor to. The gears have to seat themselves and wear off some metal. Plymouth cars used to have a magnet in the trans pan to catch the shavings.
That screen being plugged would cause the shifting problems. As it was restricting the suction side of the pump. The whine was also caused by the plugged screen. Hopefully cavitation in the system didn't cause any other damage. It's a wonder the transmission and or hydraulics weren't running hot.
Yep, watched the video now. Knowing what you know about the previous work on the tractor & possible QC cleaning issues at the factory I'd have done the same thing. FWIW I think you should be fine as there was way too much material there for the thing to operate perfectly some of the time but not others if it was from a pending failure. The whining sound being quietened down from when you got the tractor too suggests that most of the crap has always been there & it just got too much of a pressure drop over time.
Speaking of crap from manufacture, just had to rebuild a Prinoth snow cat completely in the hydraulic and hydro static systems after 300 hours from manufacturing crap in the system.
A buddy of mine had a cat 55 and the power shift was loose so cat came out and put it on a computer started it up and every once in awhile it would put down so they went through and said she should be good and it worked great
Hi Wesley, I hope I spelled your name right. I watch your channel each day like clock work, and I recommend allot of my subscribers to watch your channel. Allot of them are homesteaders and they like your channel. I am a very small RUclipsr myself. But I have a question. Why in this video, you are having problems bailing because the hay is to tough to bail, when now after watching your videos after building and remodeling the Hesston baler, you show bailing just about anything with no problem. And now I have been watching you bailing corn platter and you would think that would be a night mare. How do you seem to make that happen? I think you need to do a video and explain what you had to do to get the Krone Baler to be able to bail all that crap. And I all so watched you bail many times very wet hay on other videos. So how and the heck did you force the computer to allow you to accomplish that? I think that would make a cool video. Some of us out here don't know jack about a bailer as big as the one you own, so it would be nice to know how you walked around and made this bailer do what it does. To me, watching your channel, you are a genius. You are my first channel I go to every day to watch. I love it when you talked about youtube telling you in your email the new rules. I pasted that on to my subscribers, and many had watched it. I want to thank you so much for entertaining me each and every day. But there is one thing I wish you would not do. It seems like allot of your videos, you cut them short and leave us hang at the end, you could at least do a outro and say goodby. I really hope you do a video on this, because it would be nice to know how all of a sudden you can bail wet hay with no problem at all. Thanks Wesley, I hope you read this comment. If you read this, let me know. You are my favorite Channel, and I mean that. Take it easy and please keep making all these great videos, I love the ones you do on Trump. To me, I think he is the best thing that ever happened to this country. Them Demorats can go fu----ck them self. Say hi to Teresa, I see she did not want to be on film in this one, but now she appears in some of the videos. You sure have a beautiful wife. Well, I guess this comment is much to long, I hope you read it. Thank you, and your family for all the fine work, and please don't quit RUclips or gobble my balls LOL. I always give you the thumbs up, but I don't comment because you are so big, and you can't possibly read all them comments. You must have thousands, how do you keep up?
Thousands an thousands of $ invested !..I couldn't put up with all this grief, I think I'll stick with my ME 240 and my old N H square baler thanks with 25 acres !.
Just don't forget its a $200,k tractor not a $3 million bulldozer They are in the world of industry a cheap gear box Obviously good for agriculture but they do do funny things every so offern and don't do every shift perfect every time
Looks like the hay needs a conditioner to run down the rows (with the ground being so damp) . might need one of george saunder's wheel presses on the front of the 8530 to push the row down prior to baling if the rows are fluffed up too much. The jd 8120 has run the Krone BP1290 HDP baler in the past years. The jd 7530 has 180 hp or so, but it is out of its weight class pulling the baler. It would be unsafe on hilly fields, and stuck in softer fields. Also would have to limit road speed, because this baler is not equipped with brakes.
If they want to charge you 35000 to update and fix everything I would sooner trade off the tractor and pay 35000 extra for a newer one with less problems.
Your treating her like you have been married for ten plus years Wes. That’s a huge No No! I could tell by the look she had that she didn’t want a kiss on her forehead! She wanted a kiss on the lips!
Hey Theresa When you coming back your true fans miss you so please don't let the trolls and unamerican's drive you out I for one love the banter between you and Wes and as for marriage that is between you and Wes and only you And Wes wishing you the best of health and hope to see you again soon... God bless and watch over you both love from Wales....
candianwelderfarmer Contractors in Ireland and UK almost always do and have no issues so don't get so uptight. I didnt say anything about a Phone number, just the name. In Ireland most have their name, number and adress and never heard of anyone complaining 👍
AgriFan not only that but bitching about spraying chemicals and ruining environment and your killing us with that spray bla bla bla and btw phone number doesnt have to be on it if you have a name you can google number
The fun of not knowing what might be wrong with that tractor until it blows up. even if it was fixed that stuff probably shouldn't be in there if it's from one compartment, they never cleaned it out right . To be honest if Deere left that $#!t in there when they made it, I'd be mega mad at the price that tractor cost for " good quality". People laugh at the Russian Belarus tractors but out of all the new ones I service when we sold them, I never had scrap like that come out of the transmissions from machining. Yeah if something went wrong in it's life you got chunks that was usually gear teeth or bearings, but it wasn't a $35.000 fix. For that money back then you could throw it away and buy another new one for less L.O.L. Man I 'm not into praying but you need one for that tractor. Good luck Amen .
My guess is that that screen has never ever been cleaned. The silicone is leftover from assembly, and the metal left over from break-in. just my personal theory.
Wayne Rogers unless you farm you don’t know what your talking about. I run a farm and pull a 50’ single disk grain drill with a 500 bu. cart at 7.5 mph with my Magnum 380. Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one. I have nothing against JD. I’ll stick with what works for me and my operation.
That Western truck and tractor that everyone referred you to.
Said; If you run a calibration on that transmission any problems will be revealed.
I thought that very informative.
Run it for a while and check the screens again for metal. If she keeps loading up, you know there is an active problem.
Usually when I split a tractor, I repaint any marks I may have caused, bolt heads etc, only for the simple fact of inhibiting rust. A lot of shops do this, it has nothing to do with hiding anything.

That sounds like oil pressure problem And that clogged screen could been the reason.

Wes that 8530 is a super nice machine!
Think Wes is going to have to rename his channel, sure doesn’t look lonely anymore! Guess a kudos has to go out to Theresa for that💞
ONE HAPPY FARMER ??? O H F ?
I've seen drag slicks with more tread on em than the 8530. Hahaha
Yep, watched the video now. Knowing what you know about the previous work on the tractor & possible QC cleaning issues at the factory I'd have done the same thing. Good u found that little filter. About time u caught a break.
Lovely couple, great video. Regards from across the pond
I suspect your transmission issues were related to that plugged filter. Like causing fluid flow issues.
Still got some life to those Goodyear's on the 8530 still hanging in there
Great video Wes thanks for sharing
Farming = something's always broke
Farmall Fanatic Yeah, usually the farmer 😬💰
AgriFan yep, farm til youre broke lol
Farmall Fanatic I see you changed your picture.
More on the farmall m. On the transmission and rear end fluid change where to check it where to fill it where to drain it please love your videos
looking good wes thanks for the video
most interesting! First day of yr with machine,no break downs , success.,
Time will tell, and you will tell us, i hope!
Speaking of crap from manufacture, just had to rebuild a Prinoth snow cat completely in the hydraulic and hydro static systems after 300 hours from manufacturing crap in the system.
You are such a lucky man that you found theresa :)
Wish she wasn't so camera shy. Is it because of unsavory comments from viewers ?
Both I would guess, a lot like Jamie on HFW.
Wes,
Hope you don't have Transmission problems, dam that's a lot of money for that repair! My old IH magnum was 22,000 dam that hurt!
You need to throw the camera up by the exhaust on the 85 so you can hear that 8 liter grunt when you engage baler
9 liter
A buddy of mine had a cat 55 and the power shift was loose so cat came out and put it on a computer started it up and every once in awhile it would put down so they went through and said she should be good and it worked great
Those windrows looked a bit wide for the baler.
That is a John Deere Boeing 8530, awesome
Being a mechanic, i'm guessing but it probably was not getting enough flow through the filter with the debris in there.
i have to admit I would like to see the ivt apart and see how it works. but I hope like hell you don't have to tear it apart.
If you spray oil in the chamber it won’t rust and it will bale easer and better
8530 looking sexy and wes i think the front tires need aligned as the inside lugs are looking a lil worn then the outside
Need some new sneakers on that girl still an amazing tractor.
It will run well my frend for the rest the season . and more .
Good to see the first bales hitting the ground

It looks like you have to be a hay doctor to run that equipment. Anyway, this is a very interesting, so clear, so colorful, video.
Very nice .
Machine down! Paging Dr Tim! Assist required!
In gose the hay out comes the money.. Thanks for sharing Wes..
Green tractor, green hay and green money make a winning combination.
Change the oil again,,,,,, and sell it in Idaho... now bro
i hope that tractor is ok now am hopeing that screen was just oh shit from repair in the past and accidently over looked and you found it
I think she's sweet on you, Wes
Wes- I hope it is nothing! If there is something wrong wouldn't it then be both tractors from the UK?
Good luck on the 2018 season guys.
Nice 1👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

You need to get off RUclips out into the real world.
sick sad puppy who can't see the humor.
What are the other two tractors that will run the bailer?
The jd 8120 has run the Krone BP1290 HDP baler in the past years.

candianwelderfarmer Contractors in Ireland and UK almost always do and have no issues so don't get so uptight. I didnt say anything about a Phone number, just the name. In Ireland most have their name, number and adress and never heard of anyone complaining 👍
candianwelderfarmer no doubt
AgriFan people are assholes in the United States
AgriFan not only that but bitching about spraying chemicals and ruining environment and your killing us with that spray bla bla bla and btw phone number doesnt have to be on it if you have a name you can google number
Well take a break, and go damage something else!
It does it because it is green
John I can't imagine that the slam shifting and the metal showing up are just coincidental

Did you ever get hearing aids?
To better hear the whining of.the tractor NOT Teresa
Should have bought a CASE IH Mangnum😊.
Dan Krogstad I have been watching videos with the Case IH Magnum and the 8530 would work rings around the case.
Nothing like people who's ego requires them to self-identify with a tractor manufacturer...
Magnums have better cooling but worse transmissions, just what I see.
