    Susan,
Would you consider a future video to demonstrate tmj release vs lateral flexion @Poll?
    Thx you!

I love reading about and watching riders ride classical riding, I am not new to this but I need to educate myself more. I try a lot of these movements and do have some understanding of the beginings of them but I am not an expert. My question Susan is I get confused on the order of things and the training scale. Could you recommend guidance for me in what to start with and the order, maybe a book or videos. I do have a Nuno book I read but I need something for my novice riding supporting this classical training. I enjoy your RUclips videos, being from Inverness myself you are a lovely familiar sound. Thanks you Sheila

Hi Sheila, thank you for commenting. I cant think of a book with lays it out in a linear way. I would saw, keep in mind the classical expression " Ask for much, be content with little and reward often"
For different horses the order can vary so keeping curious and awre are the important things. As long as you have a clear image in your mind of what you are asking for there is no harm in trying things that might be beyond your horses capabilities as long as you pay attention to how he feels about it and adjust what you do. It is a good way to show up the things we need to work on, so when it doesn't go as you wish break it down into its separate basics, work on them , then try again. Always being curious about what the horse offers you, remembering that he is always right so asking ourselves... what did I do that he understood that ?
When in doubt back to basics - free forward movement always no.1 , practice then slowing down working towards doing it with as subtle a cue as the breathe ( my favourite tool ) . And of course rhythm, the great confidence builder .
I hope that helps, please do let me know if you have any other questions
I am actually in Scotland (now Dundee ) till 20th september so if you had a friend or 2 also interested perhaps we could arrange something ?

'Flexion of the jaw' in my view are a poor choice of words. After obtaining relaxation of the jaw with mobilization of the tongue by 'direct jaw flexions', as he says, one should obtain a lateral flexion to the right or left AT THE POLL. Unless we distinguish the two types of flexion from each other there will be confusion. I would reiterate that as Oliveira says it's vital to secure the lightness of the jaw first before going to the lateral flexions. This was Baucher's legacy.

Hi James, thank you for commenting . Yes , absolutely agree ( which is why I mention it in the video ) the previous chapter is about the relaxation of the jaw, prerequisite to this one. I am curious why you think " flexions of the jaw " (name for the chapter ) is a poor choice of words and what you would use instead ? I think the distinction is in " direct " or " lateral " . We can flex the jaw only, or with a direct flexion at the poll or with a lateral flexion at the poll .
I really appreciate you getting a conversation going here . Perhaps another video with a horse to distinguish these things ? I have a few previous ones on flexion of the poll and on latera but maybe one to put it all together to avoid confusion. Your suggestions around that re very welcome . Susan x

@@liveandbreathehorses It's not 'flexions of the jaw' I would take issue with it's the words 'lateral flexion of the jaw' that I don't like. They are lateral flexions AT THE POLL, not the jaw. If you want to call the jaw flexions themselves 'direct' then that's O.K. as well but things can get thorny when vertical flexion AT THE POLL is discussed for some would call that a DIRECT FLEXION AT THE POLL. Words matter here and we must be clear about which we speak. It's not just semantics.

@@jamesdunlop2169 Aha, yes , I see what you mean, its weird in that context that he gave the chapter in the book that title..... I shall do some investigating into it. And i totally agree with you about the importance of language for clarity, especially around such delicate matters.I wonder if part of the issue is that the original would not have been written in English Susan x
