Susan Harden I Live and Breathe Horses
Великобритания
Добавлен 23 сен 2016
Great to see you here! Want to find out more about us?
My name is Susan Harden and I have been obsessed by horses, actually equines in general, for as long as I can remember
My mission is to give horses a voice by helping people understand them better
Through stillness and breathwork we find a presence where we can listen to them and believe in their truth.
From there they can create a more meaningful communication , a connection based in trust. This gives us a feeling of belonging which in turn is a fundamental ingredient for happiness
I am also fascinated by exploring how horses can help us expand our self awareness and integrity, practice meditation and find inner peace. The horses heart is proportionally double the size of ours which helps its vast resonances and healing power.
No wonder if feels so awesome, even simply be being in their presence!

That light which is our birthright, which is always present if only we choose to connect to it. There I find inner peace, a sense of warmth and ...

Now we are into our 4th season in Scotland we have been on a huge learning curve of how to best manage the pasture so that in the coming spring we will know in advance what we need to do. It has been a huge contrast from the dry southern region of Spain where there was never enough grass to fertile and rainy eastern Scotland where the winter grass is just fine but for the rest of the year we ha...

NIce to see you back❤
Thanks Mel Its good to be back Susan xx
Thank you for this reminder It’s something that I know but forget so often!
Thank you for saying so . I am so glad it was helpful. I know what you mean it can be so easy to forget things, even things that seem so important at the time, I love it when a well timed reminder shows up Susan x
Around the year 2000, living in Alstonville, Northern NSW, I purchased a 7 year old pure Arabian mare, named Fairhaven Selique, she was handled, you could do her feet, brush her, she would stand tied. She had the itch, bad seedy toe and had only ever been trucked. The itch, her feet, soon improved. My son and I worked with her until she was ready for riding, she was going well. Fast forward a few months I was riding alone, through the macadamia farms, in quite long grass, only to have my mare stop dead still. At first, I was ignorant to her desire to stand stock still, trying to pressure her to get moving again. She resisted any efforts from me to get her going, well I finally saw the reason my mare would not move. There in front of her front feet, approximately 2 metres away lay curled up, was a huge brown snake. The snake didn't move, I also froze, not being able to think for a moment, common sense came back to me, I then asked that mare to back up, she obliged instantly, we then made a wide birth around that snake. It's a lesson I have never forgotten! Look, listen and pay attention to your horse!
Dear Susan, no problem at all, thanks for your efford. It is page 25 The riders position. Ends in midsentence. Next page 26 is the chapter "the aids". Could be that we need to find a original version of the text.
Ok I will check my version when i unpack the boxes, as soon as my new house is ready to move into, hopefully this week and if not next week Susan x
Coconut in horse fur?, for humans it coats but prevents water making it dry.
yes, strange as it seems it does help
I love the brown long reins you use, especially without the metal clasps. Where did you get yours from?
Oh my , I have had them soooo long i cant remember. Your right, its a nicer feel without metal clips Susan x
❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you so much my Awesome Cosmic Soul for the guidance ❤❤❤❤❤
Wow what a beautiful message, thank you Susan x
Half stop n vibrations before flexions After baucher 2way method or Fillis. With high neck
Yes, great care to be taken with the high neck, to watch the overall posture Thank you for engaging Susan x
In my print of the book the first chapter ends middle sentence, there is a part missing, can you help? I contacted the publisher with no success.
Hi and please excuse the late reply. I am in the middle of moving house and hope to be unpacking boxes in my new place next week. In one of those boxes is the book and I am happy to send you a picture of the page in question, just let me know which one / ones Susan x
Just found your channel and I'm loving your videos - thank you!
Hi and thank you for engaging. I have been moving to a new place over the last months and am settling in to our new place now so I will be getting some new videos up soon Susan x
Zero chance this happened
love the accent and thanks for the video
I grew up in wild buckaroo country over there, these methods were used when i was 15 or so started to spread
Awww. Do you have more lunging/ l9ngreining videos please? Love your mind-set and your being with horses❤❤❤❤
Thanks for this episode and all the others I have viewed. I was thinking about this notion of respect thanks to you last summer, riding in the mountains with friends. My very alert mare suddenly stopped on the trail, with a bit of a pileup behind. She was sensing something. We stood still, looking. The two riders behind crowded on past as I would not "make my mare go," one muttering to me, "I never let my horse just stop on the trail.". In a moment the rider in front called out, " There's a dead elk on the trail here, head uphill." I try to always respect my mare's judgement and knowledge while riding out. She has spotted bears others missed and found places where elk have been gutted out...adding to my enjoyment of our time together in the natural world. I hope I have increased her trust in me by giving her this credit.
Thank you for sharing a heartwarming story and trusting in your intuition and feel of your mare, beautiful ! Horses can really enhance our experience of nature if only we pause to listen Susan x
Horses are more happy being free for sure 😂 horses can feed and defend for themselves 😊without us imposing on them to work for us
Great video, Susan. You inspire me!
Ur seat is absolutely gorgeous
Thank you, its very nice of you to say so ! It has been a journey ! Susan x
Just like my Arab, jumps it 😂
It is a real labour of love to get them used to it, which they all do in the end. For us it is a great practice in patience and compassion Thank you for commenting Susan
Beautiful horse. You can tell he really cares for and trusts his human friend.
Thank you so much for saying so, I am so glad that it comes through. Susan x

Susan BNS días una pregunta q libros escribió Nuno oliveira???
Hola Los que yo tengo son Reflections on Equestrian Art Horses and Their Riders Classical Principles of the Art of Training Horses From an Lod Master Trainer to Young Trainers no se si hay mas , yo no le encontrado gracias por conectar conmigo Susan x
Thank you for addressing the opening of the mouth without a nose band. I bought my quarter horse 6 months ago and don’t have a lot of background on her other than at 7 she was a 3x brood mare. She’s light in the mouth allegedly but she puts her head down and and fights the snaffle with no nose band. She’s registered AQHA and I refuse to get “handsy” with my horse. We have been doing a ton of ground work and now starting under saddle. I have a Bosal that I use bareback but when I bought her she had a sore on her bridge of her nose from pressure with the Bosal. She is amazing in the round pen and very sound. Practice with bags/ stick etc. She was also underweight and we’ve got her up to about 50 pounds where we want her. Top line is good. She’s got more energy now and I have always ridden with We are about to start training barrels for her with my niece, but I have to make sure she is sound and cooperative as my niece is only 11 years old.
Thank you for writing to me, its great to hear some of you and your horses story. I hope the work is progressing well, I would be happy to have a chat if you feel like having some support Susan x
Nuno practicaba mucho las espaldas adentro (shoulder in)
Si , mi Mastro siempre decia, " Emieza y termina el trabajo con espalda dentro" Gracias por conectar Susan x
This is a great book of knowledge!
You are right, it really is Every one should have to read it before they go near a horse ! Susan x
You come across with such a lovely, warm, open presence. I’m sure your horses really love that about you ☺️💐 Thank you for the RUclips channel! It’s a really nice place to check in - I think we like all the same people in horsemanship. Xx
Thank you for saying so. I am delighted that you like the channel, makes it all worth while to know it is useful to people Susan xx
This brings such emotions to the surface for me! Absolutely so powerful! Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for telling me so, I am delighted it means something to you Susan x
Interesting. I have used that quote to get me through the most trying times of my life. It is truly valuable and versatile.

Thank you for taking the time to watch and reply I am so glad you enjoyed it ! Susan x
Gran admirador de su canal ,una pregunta es mejor leer a Nuno o a baucher gracias 🙏
Muchas Gracias !! creo que Nuno es mas util para jinetes hoy dia Susan x
please rename your video from : Do horseS like being riden ... to DOES MY HORSE like it -- and here's an anecdote about it. I'm glad you're okay -- but I'm more interested in the general question. Thanks Susan.
Hi and thank you for contacting me Thats an interesting point you rather tricky to know if someones particular horse likes being ridden.... it depends on so many things, mostly I believe the state of being of the person .. unless you mean my own horse, I took the title your mean my as in the person watching ?? otherwise I am a bit confused about your reasoning ? Susan x
😭 'PromoSM'
Looks like an Andalusian or Lusitano
Hi thank you for connecting Morisco is a PRE, its a funny thing how outside of Spain everyone seems to talk about Andalucians yet in Spain the breed is PRE Pura Raza Español ( pure bred Spanish ). In this case he is also from a breeder in Andalucia so I guess he can be an Andalucian Susanx
love these videos
Thank you for saying so, I love reading them Susan x
I grew up very poor, but had the opportunity to work alongside many humble, hardworking and ingenious people in the Badlands of New Mexico. 'Horse sense' is a rare and precious commodity. Your beautiful narration of this book and obvious admiration of the people who both wrote it and inspired it is a fine tribute to their legacy. I wish there were more people like you.
Hi, Susan. Love your channel and all the fabulous info you provide. Thank you. Incidentally, how do you manage to live in Spain, then move to Scotland with the cost of living as it is - especially after the Sham - demic which deliberately destroyed economies across the board? Just wondering because as it stands this year we were planning to move back to Europe, but it's just gotten too expensive and with the justifiable turmoil e.g. farmers fighting to keep their land, long overdue immigration curtailment, Europeans demanding to leave the EU which would surely save what's left of the Europe we used to know and love and so much else. God Bless and happy trails!
Hi Thank you for writing to me. I moved to Spain in 1989 then in October 2022 I came back to Scotland to spend time with my parents before the end of their lives I am now busy ( hence no recent videos) planning my move back to Spain in october this year. The same 3 horses will be coming with me. I am not sure how to explain the "how I do it " . I go with my intuition of what feels like the right thing to do, and I do it. In this way for me things work out well Susan x
lovely
Aha, how lovely to see you here ! I was just sending you a dm to say you have been much on my mind lately Thank you for engaging Susan x
Lovely & insightful ❤
Thank you for saying so, it means a lot Susan x
Love this. Do you think it also helps them know where their feet are and awareness of same?
Oh yes, I do believe you are right about that. The slowing down and attention to tiny detail by the human definitley help that too ! There is such great power in deceptively simple things and this exercise is definitly one of those. It can be developed infinitley as well into a gracefully elegant school walk Thank you for commenting Susan x
@@liveandbreathehorses just another thought hope you don't mind. I feel that in modern dtessage that there is an emphasis on the walk should never be shortened and the opposite is the case, pushing the length of it so as not to ruin its tempo and rhythm, but is it not true that a good rider should be able to do both? Lore
@@loredelore7286 I agree that both are valuable and I think it comes back to the point of it being HOW things are done rather that WHAT is done. A good school walk maitanins full energy which goes in a raised action rathe than extended so it will be full of graceful elegance. I cant imagine wht such a valuable exercise which is the base of so much advanced work would be though inappropriate in any way. Though the competition dressage we see today has little or nothing in common with Classical Eqitation ( dressage ) thank you for engaging Susan. x
Bello e anche la natura intorno Federica
