Eugeniusz Bodo (Singer 1937's and 1938's songs) was super star in Poland before war. His story is very tragic. He was arrested and sent to soviet gulag. He did not survive and died because of illnes.

5:35 is actually a song made, well, obviously, during the war. The lyrics make fun of the German occupation using dark humor. I recommend checking out the lyrics. The song stayed in people's memory to this day. Everyone knows some lines.
Kids still sing the changed version of it as a joke.

"Ach śpij, kochanie" (eng. "Oh sleep, my love"), a movie song from 1938, in the course of time became the most famous lullaby in Poland. And we sing it to this day! :)

    You should definitely react to:
Marek Grechuta "Dni, których nie znamy"
Some Czerwone gitary (polish Beatles) and Anna Jantar songs. They were huge stars these times.
Anna Jantar's song from 1979 title is "Nothing can lasts forever". The tragic story is she died in plane crash few months later, in march 1980.

4:58 The title of this song means 'Million stars shine on the sky', and it's actually a Polish version of 'When You Wish Upon a Star' from Disney's Pinocchio

So much tango in Polish music after World War II, because during Stalinism era (the worst version of communism), i.e. in Poland in the years 1947-1956, American music was banned. People played jazz, swing, etc., but unofficially, at home parties or underground concerts. Before 1947 and after 1956, jazz was exceptionally popular and excellent in Poland.

You need to start reacting to Dawid Podsiadło, he's probably the most popular pop artist in Poland, alongside Sanah.

Thank you for your reaction! In reality, the number of views has nothing to do with the popularity of a given song in Poland. There were many songs with a small number of views that almost everyone in Poland knows, but those with millions of views are not that popular at all. At most among young people.

I mean, the songs in the 1920s or 30s didn't really have a chance to make a carrer on YT, right? 😂 And it's not like the people in the 2000s are suddenly going to check random songs from before wwii. There are a few artists and songs from that time that entered the popculture (like Hanka Ordonówna, "Ostatnia nuedziela" by M.Fogg or Eugeniusz Bodo) but still.

When it comes to Czesław Niemen, I recommend "Wspomnienie" "Pod papugami" and "Jednego serca". He also has some songs in english, that pretty much no one in Poland knows, but they are amazing like "Inside I'm dying".
About Anna Jantar - she was big in Poland in late 1970s, but her career was cut short when she died in a plane crash in 1980.

"Piosenka" means "song". Alternative name could be "utwór" meaning "piece".
Old songs got so little views as they were often re-uploaded multiple times and peak of their popularity (obviously) happened pre-internet area.
Btw tango was not popular in Italy during interwar?

I wonder where Skaldowie are - their songs are played to this day. Also Zbigniew Wodecki - can you imagine being popular because of a song you sang to a kids cartoon? Yes, he was popular before but Pszczółka Maja was an absolute hit.
Also, sorry to say that but 1994 should be represented by Edyta Górniak, who placed second in 1994 Eurvision.

This was a very decent compilation considering only one or two songs per year and explicitly stating it's pop, so mainstream music, not necessarily the most important things happening in Polish music at any given time. Very few of the songs are the ones I really like but author of the compilation did a very good job.

Bollocks. To make a real list of most popular Polish music you need to listen at least five to ten songs from each year. This tally is just subject to the guy who have taken one or two pieces from each year randomly.

    Thank you :)

Take an interest in Ursula. 'Na sen', 'Michelle ma belle', 'Jestem ogniem'.
Note, the texts are important here. It's best to find one with translation.
Another case of the importance of the lyrics is 'Mury' by Jacek Kaczmarski. It is a protest song from the end of communism in Poland. The lyrics still make you think, they tell you why you shouldn't support totalitarianism.
Another song of his is 'Nasza Klasa'. It tells the story of people from one school class scattered around the world. Interestingly, a Ukrainian version was recorded a few years ago, adapted to their conditions.
Kaczmarski probably made it to the pop music list only because of the number of views.

why were some records with Russian subtitles? There was a time when Poland was under Soviet rule (1945-89) and they were the ones who decided who was a "star" in Poland. Those who were sub to the regime were artists, those who opposed couldn’t record anything as artists.

You have to know that until 89 every official legal song had to be approved by the communists to be released. Of course, you couldn't touch on topics that were inconvenient for the regime, but not only that. Sometimes it was enough that the sound was too Western. That's why many songs from those years contain hidden meanings.

Not this song though. Honestly, early Brzozowski- a one hit wonder with a not terrible song, I can get behind. This was before becoming government's puppet.
