    Game changer Bat Hound! I picked this up and it increased my speed/distance dramatically. Keep up the good work.

    25 years in softball and I finally was able to transition to the overlap grip… what REALLY helped was the “balloon tape mod” and a ton of pine tar. The pine tar really helps with the grip, allowing my grip to stay loose. Pine tar was the secret! Cranking balls with it!

    That's awesome, I recently have tried this over the past month and it has been a huge improvement after playing baseball for years.

    You should make a video using one bat and the two different grips to measure if the overlap consistently renders more distance.

      Felix Padilla that is a good idea! I’ll see what I can do. Thanks for the suggestion! 👍👍

    You pull with your lead hand and push with your fallow hand so your only gaining the distance from pivot point to new pivot point

    • @bathound
      @bathound  5 лет назад

      Jarrod Boesen I think that is what I’m trying to show here, that the extra 4-5 inches makes a difference. I noticed it especially when just whipping the bat back and forth in my hands in the living room, that I could only hear the loose connection with the drop down full overlap grip but not with traditional baseball grip. Moving the pivot point down so far gave it that much more whip 👍

    • @jarrodboesen6032
      @jarrodboesen6032 5 лет назад

      Your top hand and bottom hand are moving in different directions so your pivot point is not at the top of your top hand during a swing it at the point where the two forces meet

    • @bathound
      @bathound  5 лет назад

      Jarrod Boesen I don’t know all the science behind it but it seems to me if I was using a 12” hammer I’d rather hold it at the base of the handle rather than at the 8” mark because I’ll get much more leverage. As far as I can tell this works in a similar way as demonstrated. Experientially I can say it gives more pop as well. Like I said some people will do just fine without it, but if one is looking for more pop and is willing to put in the time, this can be one of the tools to get them that.

    Does using a knob cuff make the drop down grip easier to learn ?

    • @TWRhinoman
      @TWRhinoman 5 лет назад +2

      could help. I'd make sure when you're starting to use a batting glove so you don't throw the bat.

    • @bathound
      @bathound  5 лет назад +1

      Good question. I used one before I starting the balloon tape, but for me the knob cuff made it easier to learn the new grip. It gave me a better grip on the bat, almost like a little racquet ball.

    • @ShiftyTubeChannel
      @ShiftyTubeChannel 5 лет назад +1

      I probably wouldn't bother trying without one, it would just be too uncomfortable. Regardless, within 10 seconds of trying this grip you will be able to determine this for yourself.

    Is it possible to kill/retire a bat? My fallout is hitting so well now, I am afraid if I keep using it for practice, it will eventually break/fail... idk. Do bats have a lifespan? I’m thinking I’ll just use the fallout in the game and break in my Daisy Cutter and Sinister while practicing.

    • @bathound
      @bathound  5 лет назад

      Felix Padilla good question. Yes bats will eventually either break or fail compression or run out of pop. But for the Monsta bats you should typically be able to get several thousand hits on them. My og dna has many thousands and it is still going strong 👍. However I do not take as much bp with the og dna this season to try to expand the life. Also for Monsta bats the fallout and dna bats I believ are the most durable.

    What brand grip tape is that? I started using hockey tape. I like the tape with a traditional baseball grip, but find that the handle is too skinny for when I attempt the overlap grip. I feel like if I swing 90-100% that the bat is going to wiz across the field. I sent my fallout across the garage the other day... lol

    • @bathound
      @bathound  5 лет назад +1

      Felix Padilla haha on the bat flying. I did it before too 🤪😂. I just use hockey tape and love it. Using the balloon taping style is nice to give the knob cuff feel and helps me hold the bat well.

    Have you tried using the Grip-N-RIP bat taper? Also wanna say it's nice to see another lefty swing, hopefully watching these videos will help with my hitting technique.

    • @bathound
      @bathound  5 лет назад

      keiker19 thanks for watching! I’ve tried one grip-n-rip and liked it. I did prefer just the cone knob cuff more though. But even more than that I prefer the balloon tape style I’ve been doing recently. I find it more comfortable and takes weight off the handle.

    Been working on developing the overlap grip. Seems to make my fingers sore as if im mashing them on. Also got nasty blister in my palm. Just curious if you had the same kinds of issues developing the grip and it will get better with time? I do see a lot more whip in my swing with this grip.

    • @bathound
      @bathound  5 лет назад

      bobby sutton great question! I’ve considered making a video on this and thought it would be fun to interview people how the transition went. I have a callous right near the middle of my bottom hand palm and one near my thumb in the palm of my top hand. My top hand pointer and middle fingers were sore probably for about a year 😲. Not terrible but they felt like they were getting stretched back a lot. They are not sore anymore. I don’t remember it being bothersome other than wondering if it would eventually go away, which it did 👍. Hope that helps some.

    I do not agree you lose a shit ton of control of the bar head when swinging with this grip and consistency goes way down

    • @bathound
      @bathound  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. It for sure takes work to get control with this grip. I took probably thousands of swings with a heavy bat that also had a bat weight on it to help with that. Overall I would say I have more control now than I did before, but not because the grip, rather just to more practice now than years past. That said, it may be true that if I put the same level of practice in with the traditional grip as I have with the drop down full overlap, then my control could be even better.
