When the Air Force gets in trouble they fly away, the Navy sails away, and the Army does a general retreat.
The Marines can't do that. Once you are on the beach you fight or you die. You just can't swim back to the ships.

Tell me something. Do you think more people regret not joining the marines, or more regret that they did?
If you’re soft or sensitive, join anyway. I started out that way and joined in order to be sharpened. Young people are malleable, and they can be broken down and built up into something better. The sensitive types who become Marines are some of the best I think. We can turn it on when we need to turn it on, and we can show compassion when we need to show compassion.
I agree to a certain extent, I was a bit passive as a kid and knew I didn't have the tools or aptitude to take on life. I remember thinking to myself, if I can become a Marine there is nothing in life I can not take on. I am grateful everyday that I believed in myself because the kid I was before was not the same man that came out.

I am a former MARINE and I think this podcast is spot on right. I joined the Marines at age 17. I graduated from high school on Friday night and was at MCRD San Diego, CA the following Monday. I was a poor kid from a poor mixed race family. College wasn’t a consideration because of cost. I was 5 foot 7 inches and weighed 120 lbs.
More than one person told me I was to little and I wouldn’t last one week . I considered that a challenge and they were right. I didn’t last one week. I lasted 27 years! You are right about the stress factor . We were fucked with, hit, kicked and called out daily. Off the bus and on the “YELLOW FOOTPRINTS “ and almost immediately it started.
I had never been in a fight in my life and didn’t consider myself tough. That night June 5th, 1968, I had my ass kicked. The D.I. came up to me and said to the other Drill Instructors “I found him! I found the slimy little cocksucker that killed Bobby Kennedy”. He then hit me in the gut so hard I fell down. He then started laughing and said “you though you could hide in my Marine Corps you slimy little scumbag but I found you. You are going to die you little Communist fuck.” I didn’t understand the thing about Bobby Kennedy until days later when we were told Bobby Kennedy had been killed the very night I arrived at Boot Camp. The purpose for all the yelling , hitting and getting punched had a real purpose. They were putting us under tremendous stress and at the same time demanding we accomplish our mission. In combat after the first shot it is chaos and that was their way of training us to survive on the battlefield. When stressed in combat we went to training by rote. No matter how crazy it was our training kicked in . As close to actual combat as possible. Thank you for the insightful podcast.
Because of the Marine Corps I was the first in my family to graduated from high school. I was also the first of my family to get a college education( BA in Behavioral Psychology) and the first to retire from the military.
SEMPER FI!
You're not a former marine. You're still a marine..
Semper Fidelis. I'm US NAVY Veteran, everything I learned in the US NAVY applied in the civilian life. I only did 11.7 years active; had a involuntary separation under Honorable conditions. Served with distinction throughout my US NAVAL Career. Been to all four corners of the world. Worked closely with the United States Marine under demanding, stressful in non combat roles. My existence is they taught me to focus now, yesterday is gone, it's not coming back. The future is not here yet, it's a waste of time thinking about it anyway. Yet, right now is important. I'm very fortunate to serve with the Marines on US NAVY ships. Going out on Liberty with the Marines was memorable, and had good times drinking with them.
It wasn't always fun, the drinking can get out of line. I've seen some good Marines, with excellent evals get processed out with various articles as a result of drinking. I too had a drinking problem through out my Naval career.
The most important organ I have is between my ears. My military experience has taught me to be self relient, razor focused, have compassion for other people, especially today with people coming out of the woodwork. It's been a hard couple of years for everybody.
This is strangely relatable I’m 17 right now and a jr. I am also mixed race and my family doesn’t have the most money. I just went to the doctors today, and I weigh 122 lbs. I want to go into the marines or navy early, but I was thinking I was to small. I am also 5’6.5
@@nacon3396 .Being small was a motivating factor for me. When the D.I. said I was too small I thought “I won’t quit! I will die trying but no way in hell will I quit. “ I realized that even though the physical part of Boot Camp was a big challenge it was the mental toughness that carried me through. If you want it bad enough you can do it.
Believe me, if I could do it you can. Good luck! You are in my prayers. SEMPER FI!🪖👊🏻 When you graduate from Boot Camp and earn “THE TITLE” Marine for the rest of your life nothing will seem impossible for you.

I had three brothers and a sister become US Marines. Attended all of their graduations. Three at Camp Pendleton and one at Parris Island. Never have I been more proud of anything in my life as I was when all four graduated boot camp. As for me, I followed in my dad's footsteps and became a soldier in the US Army.
Feb 22nd💪these vids help a lot
@keeghanhembree where you going San Diego or Paris island I’m going to San Diego on feb 22
Y’all might meet if y’all are going to the same places
Excellent advice, I would agree with everything said😊 the best advice I got before boot camp was don’t volunteer for anything in boot camp.
I cant speak for now, but 35 years ago this was 100% true. Good video. Semper Fi Brother!
Can you please make a video on the shittiest experience you personally encountered in the USMC?
First thank you for your service. Second thing is you are right, the Marine Corps is not for everyone. I have 3 sons and my middle son was and always will be a Marine. My youngest son loved the idea of being a Marine but I don’t think he realized what it takes to earn that title until he went to Parris Island and only lasted about 3 weeks. He still loves everything about the Marines but it just wasn’t in him. I hope somebody who was on the fence about joining the Marines takes what you say to heart. I love and respect every branch of our military but the Marines are truly something special
I went to Boot Camp on PI in June of 1976. The only thing I would differ with you on is I happened to get a fantastic recruiter, Sgt Stokes. He was completely honest with me and everything he said came to pass. I appreciated his bluntness. I also know I was really lucky to have him. A bunch of guys showed up thinking things were going to be way different.
I agree with everything you say in this video. I haven't seen the rest of your videos but if they are as truthful as this one is I don't see how anyone could be offended. Keep up the good work. People going into any endeavor, but especially this one, deserve to know what they are getting into.
Straight scoop people, was that way in the 60s too. Semper Fi from this old SGT
Solid advice. I’m shipping out to MCRD San Diego this June
me too man, whats your ship date? mines june 20th
@@splitbones6516 mine is June 21
@@figgeldorpe1053 nice same here, but I’m going to parris island 🤙
Ha hahah good luck kid
@Francisco Nieves bonamount is not a word. I don’t understand anything you’re saying. Your sentences don’t make sense. No hostility here bro, I just don’t know what you’re trying to say
80's Marine when they were changing from the Vietnam era and went to Med following Barracks bombing rough time but traveled a lot had Predident Regan give us speech
Thanks for your service. My oldest son is a Marine and my second soon to follow this summer.
God bless, brother...straight dope. Semper Fi!
i find it weird how i get all these type of videos after almost 2 years of my EAS. I absolutely had no idea of what i got myself into. Didn't even know what my MOS was until after MCT.Although, I have to admit i enjoyed every moment of my time in the Marine Corps.
20 year veteran of the Marine Corps, you are correct sir, everyone can't be one of us,hence the term "the few,the proud"...some people are just not cut from our cloth....EAGLE,GLOBE,AND ANCHOR FOREVER.....ooooohhhh rahhhhhh
You are infantry with plenty of females. Army infantry has yet to have a female pass that training. Infantry does not transfer (career wise) to civilian life. Retired, that won’t affect you. It does to anyone who doesn’t retire tho.
I wanted to join the marines but I only had a ged and would have been a tier 2 applicant and I am turning 29 this year it hit me hard but I decided to join the navy and try to become an fmf corpsman I am taking my asvab in meps a month from now. Keep up with the videos RAH!
I’ll be doing both USMC, and the Navy (Marine Corps first, then enlist in the Navy, after the amount of years I’m satisfied with, then go into USN for the Rate of Corpsman.
Why? Go straight FMF Corpsman. One thing the Marine Corps will do is treat you like one of their own. You do everything they do plus your medical training. That means range time, you aren't sitting watching these killers shoot and blow shit up, you are in there getting some and doing it too. Once you go FMF you won't ever look at Blue side the same....lol. - Doc -
I think your strategy in fine, You can finish a career with the Navy after a solid foundation as a Marine. Good luck.
@@jessiebedlam6094 how easy is it to go FMF as a corpsmen
@@Deimos_the_Autist I can only speak to 1996 but all male corpsmen went FMF. You’d go to FMSS school Either in San Diego or Camp Johnson then you will be assigned to the fleet. The females in my class were assigned to hospitals and hospital ships.
@@jessiebedlam6094 awesome im Army atm tried getting combat medic but seen that navy corpsman were better trained and I wanted to be a marine medic just didnt know the navy provided it before i joined
First what this young man is saying is 100% true. I can honestly say that because i served in the Marine Corps for 24 years. I retired in 2015 for 22 of those years i was an 0326 and served with both 1st and 2nd Force Recon as well as Det 1 which eventually became MARSOC. The Marine Corps no matter what your MOS is is a lifestyle. It takes a certain type of person to become a Marine you have to want to earn that title. The Marine Corps doesn't push new recruits thru bootcamp to meet some quota if you don't successfully pass all three phases of bootcamp you will be dropped and have to go back thru starting at whatever phase you couldn't pass. Understand this it's very important The Marine Corps Does Not Discharge Someone For Failure To Adapt To Military Life. The only way you can be discharged from the Marine Corps in bootcamp is if you're injured in a manner that will not allow you to serve. I honestly suggest that if you think you want to join the Marine Corps watch the videos posted by this young man as well as videos of actual footage of Marine Corps bootcamp.
Marine = Instant Respect that you will have the rest of your life. How many other occupations can say that?
OUTSTANDING. NOW CARRY ON THERE YOU...
You are spot on bro
I joined the navy just under a year ago and I wish I would have picked the army or marines. The navy isn’t as hardcore as I was thinking it would be. My grandpa was in the army from 79’-89’ so he got me prepared for that. Covid doesn’t help either it’s super watered down and military bearing isn’t very strict plus a lot of the people I’ve met are weird as hell
Doc here....Enjoyed the video. This Devil Dog is 100% on point.
You are 1000 percent correct on all of it! I often get asked by parents “My son wants to join the Marine Corps” and my 1st quest is well what does he want to do? Because like you said depending on what he wants to do the Marines might not be the best choice for him. Great content brother!
If you have ever used the word or felt "triggered"..... Keep moving. The Corps ain't for you...
You're right. Cause a snowflake will get his/her arse "triggered" right out of the Corps.
Leaving for boot tmw!! Gonna be quarantining for 2 weeks first 😭
Hope you go all the way 🙏
Nailed it
All very true!👍👍
Thank you for the info! I leave for boot camp February 8th
Me too
Don’t volunteer for anything and do what you’re told and you should have a good experience 😊
Also the first couple days is receiving so those drill instructors are not the ones you have the hole time so if you don’t like them they will be different
Good luck bro
@@smadeiros03 thanks man, much appreciated
In combat, the corpsman is as much a Marine as the Marines he's saving. Navy corpsman who choose to attach themselves to an infantry unit knows what he's choosing. Doc is as beloved as any member of the platoon, sometimes even more . When a Marine is down, Doc walks on water and the Marine knows he'll do the best he can to pull him through.
Thank you for being real
Great video. Great advice. Joining the Marines was the best thing I ever did.
Already enlisted, I’m actually planning to leave for boot camps in like 2 weeks
goodluck and stay motivated, always picture the end goal to keep you on course. Also live sunday to sunday and chow to chow and your time in bootcamp will fly.
Hope you made it and don’t give up you’ve got this shit in the bag man stay safe
Chris; Just wanted to be the 1st to welcome you to the Brotherhood. Semper Fi, Marine. I figure you will be graduating in a week.
