For those in the comments wondering how to trigger this scene: You'll only get this dialogue if you haven't triggered the weave cutscene (which you unlock at either 'fair' or 'good' approval level rating, don't remember which) BEFORE the tiefling celebration; then, at the celebration itself, you must 1) have enough approval with him (once again, at 'fair' or higher, idk) and 2) have already made evening plans with someone else before you go and talk to him (if you're free for the night you'll get his standard "hey wanna see a magic trick ;)" dialogue regardless of your dating status with other companions, fun fact) Found all this out by accident because in my last playthrough I got the weave scene pre-celebration, """friendzoned""" him and then at the party he basically refused to speak to me (which made me sad 'cause aren't we supposed to be friends?? Lmfao), so this time around I purposely kept his approval at 'neutral' via a mod, then raised it back at the celebration to see if I'd get an actual conversation, and LOW AND BEHOLD, this scene 😂 I'm just a simple lesbian in love with Karlach, Gale, don't hold it against me 🙌

Gale and Astarion are very alike, both have pride and sass but it is just in different areas: Astarion in seduction, power, deception, and romance; Gale in knowledge, power, and tactical thinking. Once you start looking at it that way then you’ll see just how alike they are. I saw someone say that the reason Gale doesn’t like Astarion is because he sees too much of himself in Astarion, and perhaps it just annoys him or he feels really called out when he sees it.
In my case he was so mad at the party, he didn't even want to speak to me. He said something along the lines of "don't waste your time talking to me, there's plenty of people who want to fuck you" 🙃

Yeah, Astarion is more obvious with it and his VA hits a wider range of emotions, even within one sentence. Gale is more composed and dead ass in his delivery, and enjoys delivering using bigger words (which I think also comes with the territory of his kinda passive aggressiveness and sass, lmao).
Drunk half confession Gale was more fun for me. I’m no fan of jealousy But without dating someone else i had a whole dialogue at the tiefling party. And his reaction when my character flirted back was priceless :D

@accaliawolf2903 It seems to be the normal one that I get in this conversation. You ask if he's talking about his cat. He splutters that Tara isn't a cat, she's a Tressym. You say you'd like to meet her or something similar, and part of his response is that she hates having her belly rubbed. That's when it pops up as an option. It takes a sec for the lad to actually understand what you're proposing.

While being really nice about respecting your choice he still likes you enough to fight for you! and also this confirms that he'll only show you his magic tricks if he's wooing you, even though he's acting all shy if you reciprocate via the illusion - that's a nice detail as well!

In the end we found the moment it went astray and had to replay about 30 hours. I am still thankful for my coop-partner who really wanted me to find love! :D

I usually mess around with Astarion in early game and then in act 2 we become friends and I go with gale. Astarion approves of it and it feels right but oh does it hurt to let him go.
I like him better when he’s not jealous. He gets really poetic in that moment and funny if you flirt with him 😂 I’m just a simple straight woman and tried only the male options so far ;)
Gale said that to my first Tav, a female Lolth-sworn drow warlock and she noped out of that conversation faster than Gale could say Mystra. She sold her soul to get power, she was certain that she knew what she was getting into with Astarion, who just seemed to be the least complicated fun at the time. Gale being patronizing about her choice was the worst move he could have pulled. Well, she turned out to be wrong, but she would never admit that to a man, much less a surface dweller.
I got this on accident during my first Durge play through. It was awful! (In the best way) I had Astarion, Shadowheart, Gale and Laezel with me and they all wanted me!! It was scary 😱 I kept running back to Astarion screaming “Help!” I had no idea I’d accidentally gotten them all up that high since it didn’t happen on my Tav run. I swear, you take Laezel to one goblin massacre. 🤦
I didn't even take her to a goblin massacre, only to see the Gith patrol and talk to Zorru in the Grove. I took the lead and she was pissed. That's it, rest of Act 1 she was left in camp (probably frowning at all the junk I sent there on my adventures with my favorite companions). Still have no clue what made her suggest to jump my bones at the party

Only when I did take her along on my second playthrough (that was the *only* thing I did with her too, except piss her off with Zorru) I wasn’t expecting it because she didn’t say anything the first time, so it really freaked me out.

The moment when having an (almost) literal nuke in the chest is less of a problem than possibly angering The Goddess Of Magic (especially when you're reliant on her Weave) for banging her ex 😂
I have been trying to get these scenes for AGES and it never works 😭😭 no matter how high my approval is with Gale, if I have high approval with Astarion, Gale does not give AF about me!
I've never got these responses/this scene. I've had Gale want to show me the Weave stuff at the party (dude, we are having a party and you choose NOW for this?). On that play through Astarion and Tav had already had their forest tryst and Tav had plans to spend the night with Astarion but it was our second "date" so I don't know if that's the difference. Up until finding this video, the only companions that noticed Tav had made plans to be with Astarion were Lae'zel (love it when she tells Tav that she's got other options and Wyll is looking like a good option to spend the night with. Karlach always seems to mention "So you and Astarion...." and Shadowheart brings up that Astarion about 40-50% of the time, Wyll, Gale and Halsin have always been oblivious and Halsin....Tav can't even ask him why he's not participating in the party without Halsin thinking Tav is coming on to him. I'm going to try to get the timing right on my current playthrough to get Astarion to high enough approval at the party for him to ask you to spend the night with him and Gale want to show Tav the Weave to see if this scene triggers.
@@kalenn6927in my current playthrough, during the party, Shadowheart told me that Gale's had his eyes on me the whole night, and I'm pretty sure it was already after I talked to Astarion and agreed to meet him after the party. I think that if you've triggered Astarion intimate scene before the party and went with it, the game doesn't consider agreeing to a second time the same way it would if it was a first time. Maybe it's tied with having a cutscene somehow, since second Astarion date fades into black.

@@LadyKatyRae This right here. A combination of the bug, lack of media literacy and people just projecting stuff onto Gale has given him a really bad image that he doesn't deserve. A big thing I've been seeing lately is people saying he was the bad guy and was abusive to Mystra because in his words he sought to cross her boundaries and says himself that he was the bad guy, if you're in a super unequal relationship that started with you being groomed by a literal godess who only values you because of your magic it makes sense that you'd want to gain more power, both to be more equal to her and so that she values you more. Him saying he's the bad guy is victim blaming himself. People just hear "cross boundaries" and think of shiity men in our world and start projecting, when in this case the "boundaries" are I'm big you're small, I have all of the power in our relationship and you have none, you literally worship me and you're my plaything. Also if you've been a wizard from such a young age and been raised in that environment it makes sense that he'd be a bit arrogant to start out with but its so clear its all an act and part of his character arc is developing self-worth outside of Mystra and letting the act go.

You dont even have to romance him to figure out what happened as far as his "crossing boundaries" incident. he straight tells you....I really think people need to give him a chance. I know hes arrogant...or appears so. Hes actually really insecure. So often he talks about how he doesnt deserve the PC. Or even just the way he talks about Tara and how much she helped him. Its so sad to see that he doesnt feel he deserves the kindness that is on offer to him. People just leave him at camp and then bash him for eating their boots...i swear.
@@LadyKatyRae Its also worth noting that...literally ALL of the main companions, save for Karlach, are arrogant to some degree at the start of the game, and if you pursue their routes (romantically or platonically), its something most of them eventually grow out of. Thats how chatacter arcs work.

I'm so confused! I've had "good" approval from Gale for about a week (in-game time), but I still haven't gotten the weave scene! At the tiefling party yesterday he just lamented our acquaintance not being strong enough to share a "moment of magic" and I was like where is this coming from? I chat with you every day and you never want to talk about anything!
Gale pissed me off in second playthrough, when I actually wanted to have a thing with him but he clearly wasn’t interested. So I went for Lae’zel. And what? During party we talked like buddies, the only thing he said was about „enjoing my bad scent”. Then in act 2 I got that scene before astral projection and suddenly Gale loves me. I was like „are you serious? ARE YOU SERIOUS?! You friendzoned me when I was interested and now you’re in love?” My game was extremly bugged so that might be the problem, still since then I constantly reject him and he constantly tries to get with my Tavs. Right now I play as a sorcerer so we have that classic D&D wizard vs sorcerer conflict, still maybe this time I’ll go for him. He has dry humor and throws some dad jokes but that’s good, I need someone with less sweet romance after Wyll.
It’s weird, but I haven’t that dialogue at party :c Whyyyyy Like, I choose to go with Astarion for this dialogue, and… still we talked only about Tara and rubbing his belly :D I’m not complaining, but still….
If you've already begun romancing Gale, he won't do this. I thought that if you hadn't yet had the moment of magic scene with him and picked Astarion he would say this, but I actually tried to trigger it again recently and it didn't happen. This game is so complex!

You have to save the tieflings and not have already had the moment of magic scene with Gale. The one where he is holding a projection of Mystra in his hands. Then, before talking to him at the tief party, promise to sleep with someone else first and then talk to him.
@@Kimbersism hmm I did get the scene with Mystra's projection pretty early, around 5.5hrs into the game because I gained his approval quite fast by following some steps. I just really hope to get that scene in part II where his hologram invites me to the real Gale so I'm making sure I'm not promising anything to others because I didn't get that scene the last time even though I had his 100% approval because I had to choose between him and Wyll

i think the game is set up to be different each playthroufg, so you gotta just hope he doesn’t show you his magic before the tiefling party and agree to share a night with someone else before speaking to him, that’s how it happened for me. hopefully it helps a little

He's vocalizing those thoughts specifically because he's hurt and wants to hurt back, which under the circumstance is a perfect normal response. Is it a great one? No. Is it normal? Yes. Stop insisting that because Astarion is a trauma survivor he can't possibly have flaws. It's unrealistic and insulting to people who actually *have* survived trauma, come out mess, and *worked* to get better.

@@cameo86 wow. Yeah, I left her behind on my first playthrough and she didn’t try to get in my pants at the party. Only when I did take her along on my second playthrough (that was the *only* thing I did with her too, except piss her off with Zorru) I wasn’t expecting it because she didn’t say anything the first time, so it really freaked me out.
This scene was hilarious to me because all i did was give him my wrist gauntlets to eat i barely interacted with Gale 😂

The moment when having an (almost) literal nuke in the chest is less of a problem than possibly angering The Goddess Of Magic (especially when you're reliant on her Weave) for banging her ex 😂

I have been trying to get these scenes for AGES and it never works 😭😭 no matter how high my approval is with Gale, if I have high approval with Astarion, Gale does not give AF about me!

I've never got these responses/this scene. I've had Gale want to show me the Weave stuff at the party (dude, we are having a party and you choose NOW for this?). On that play through Astarion and Tav had already had their forest tryst and Tav had plans to spend the night with Astarion but it was our second "date" so I don't know if that's the difference. Up until finding this video, the only companions that noticed Tav had made plans to be with Astarion were Lae'zel (love it when she tells Tav that she's got other options and Wyll is looking like a good option to spend the night with. Karlach always seems to mention "So you and Astarion...." and Shadowheart brings up that Astarion about 40-50% of the time, Wyll, Gale and Halsin have always been oblivious and Halsin....Tav can't even ask him why he's not participating in the party without Halsin thinking Tav is coming on to him. I'm going to try to get the timing right on my current playthrough to get Astarion to high enough approval at the party for him to ask you to spend the night with him and Gale want to show Tav the Weave to see if this scene triggers.
Sadly he is never interested in me for no reason, also has big lvl of approval. Got no idea how to get him 😂
@@kalenn6927in my current playthrough, during the party, Shadowheart told me that Gale's had his eyes on me the whole night, and I'm pretty sure it was already after I talked to Astarion and agreed to meet him after the party. I think that if you've triggered Astarion intimate scene before the party and went with it, the game doesn't consider agreeing to a second time the same way it would if it was a first time. Maybe it's tied with having a cutscene somehow, since second Astarion date fades into black.
Karlach had the best reaction to my Astarion choice…

@@zoeg1013 i definitely dont read him as weird and manipulative. definitely wordy. but i definitely read him as more of a gifted child turned disappointment and now his internal confidence is shattered. hes been used and abused and groomed by a goddess and made one (albeit big) mistake and was cast out of everything he had lived his life for. he acts arrogant, but he has a big heart.
@@LadyKatyRae This right here. A combination of the bug, lack of media literacy and people just projecting stuff onto Gale has given him a really bad image that he doesn't deserve. A big thing I've been seeing lately is people saying he was the bad guy and was abusive to Mystra because in his words he sought to cross her boundaries and says himself that he was the bad guy, if you're in a super unequal relationship that started with you being groomed by a literal godess who only values you because of your magic it makes sense that you'd want to gain more power, both to be more equal to her and so that she values you more. Him saying he's the bad guy is victim blaming himself. People just hear "cross boundaries" and think of shiity men in our world and start projecting, when in this case the "boundaries" are I'm big you're small, I have all of the power in our relationship and you have none, you literally worship me and you're my plaything. Also if you've been a wizard from such a young age and been raised in that environment it makes sense that he'd be a bit arrogant to start out with but its so clear its all an act and part of his character arc is developing self-worth outside of Mystra and letting the act go.

She could have literally sneezed him out of existence for his transgressions.... just..how.... You dont even have to romance him to figure out what happened as far as his "crossing boundaries" incident. he straight tells you....I really think people need to give him a chance. I know hes arrogant...or appears so. Hes actually really insecure. So often he talks about how he doesnt deserve the PC. Or even just the way he talks about Tara and how much she helped him. Its so sad to see that he doesnt feel he deserves the kindness that is on offer to him. People just leave him at camp and then bash him for eating their boots...i swear.
@@LadyKatyRae Its also worth noting that...literally ALL of the main companions, save for Karlach, are arrogant to some degree at the start of the game, and if you pursue their routes (romantically or platonically), its something most of them eventually grow out of. Thats how chatacter arcs work.

I'm so confused! I've had "good" approval from Gale for about a week (in-game time), but I still haven't gotten the weave scene! At the tiefling party yesterday he just lamented our acquaintance not being strong enough to share a "moment of magic" and I was like where is this coming from? I chat with you every day and you never want to talk about anything!

Gale pissed me off in second playthrough, when I actually wanted to have a thing with him but he clearly wasn’t interested. So I went for Lae’zel. And what? During party we talked like buddies, the only thing he said was about „enjoing my bad scent”. Then in act 2 I got that scene before astral projection and suddenly Gale loves me. I was like „are you serious? ARE YOU SERIOUS?! You friendzoned me when I was interested and now you’re in love?” My game was extremly bugged so that might be the problem, still since then I constantly reject him and he constantly tries to get with my Tavs. Right now I play as a sorcerer so we have that classic D&D wizard vs sorcerer conflict, still maybe this time I’ll go for him. He has dry humor and throws some dad jokes but that’s good, I need someone with less sweet romance after Wyll.
His romance was bugged a while back in multiple places. That sucks that happened, but he's totally worth it when you decide to give it another shot.

You have to save the tieflings and not have already had the moment of magic scene with Gale. The one where he is holding a projection of Mystra in his hands. Then, before talking to him at the tief party, promise to sleep with someone else first and then talk to him.
@@Kimbersism hmm I did get the scene with Mystra's projection pretty early, around 5.5hrs into the game because I gained his approval quite fast by following some steps.
I just really hope to get that scene in part II where his hologram invites me to the real Gale so I'm making sure I'm not promising anything to others because I didn't get that scene the last time even though I had his 100% approval because I had to choose between him and Wyll

i think the game is set up to be different each playthroufg, so you gotta just hope he doesn’t show you his magic before the tiefling party and agree to share a night with someone else before speaking to him, that’s how it happened for me. hopefully it helps a little

Wow, the condescension! That sure is completely unnecessary. Of course everyone can think whatever they want in the privacy of their own head, but that is not what Astarion is doing. He's vocalizing those thoughts specifically because he's hurt and wants to hurt back, which under the circumstance is a perfect normal response. Is it a great one? No. Is it normal? Yes.
Stop insisting that because Astarion is a trauma survivor he can't possibly have flaws. It's unrealistic and insulting to people who actually *have* survived trauma, come out mess, and *worked* to get better.

Wyll has like, serious repressed issues with growing up without a mom as a noble's kid and bargains away his soul without reading the fine print. Not a bad companion. All of them have red flags.
