Jim Henson in 1960: "Hmm. I have over ten episodes of this amazing variety show that's adorable and fun for all ages. It shows my complex look on the world and it deals with contemporary and controversial topics with light humor. It showcases my skill as a puppeteer and an animator and it could be potentially valuable later in my career. the jokes are hilarious and the humor is intellectual. But should I preserve them? Will I ever become more popular than I am now? Will I move on to anything else? Huh. Maybe I won't. Maybe I'll just stop right here and constrain my creativity. Maybe I should just take this show and burn it in the fireplace. That would make sense. I'll just set it in the cinders and let it roast. I can always do other stuff later if I want to. For now, this stuff is going to be destroyed forever. Jim Henson in 1990: "Why the hell did I do that?"
I know this is a dramatization of what happened but it was very costly for old Jimmy to record episodes of his own program so it isn’t so surprising a significant amount of episodes are lost, after all the show was daily too so that might make things harder to tape, and the same can be said for other shows from around the same time period and before.
I think TV looked a lot more entertaining in the 1950s. Just so simple. I would love to watch these kinds of low budget (well it certainly wasn't low budget back then) puppet shows.
"I was just wandering what movie was playing." "What movie was playing?!?" "Yes! A showdown on Main Street!" LOL!!! Who knew they used so much sarcasm back in the day? IT'S FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, there's only 18 episodes that still exsist and there are 86 episodes of Sam and Friends overall. I hope that the people at the muppet studios will find the rest of the episodes.
It's hard to believe both Kermit and Tom and Jerry shorts were both once new at the same time (as in there was overlap between this show and the original Hanna-Barbera Tom and Jerry cartoons)
@TheNatkidd Sorry, but I don't have a copy of the pilot. As a matter of fact, only about 20 episodes/segments of Sam and Friends are known to still exist, none of which are the pilot.
@JesseOliver111 While I do have a copy of that episode, it is actually in fairly rough shape. I am looking to do a little re-mastering work on it before I post it up. Also of note, I uploaded my copy of the episode "Poison to Poison" but had to immediately pull it due to a copyright violation. Warner Music Group owns the audio used in that episode, taken from the album "Spike Jones in Stereo". A shame too since I own an un-cut version.
there are some sam & friends footage that we have yet to see. still nobody has uploaded "Anything You Can Do," "Poison To Poison," "Singin' In The Rain," "That Old Black Magic," "There's A New Sound," "Tweedle Dee," "The Yellow Rose Of Texas," "Weather Warehouse," "Stan Freberg Demands Credit," & "The Final Episode (December 15th 1961)". when do you think someone will ever post these sam & friends videos?
"That Old Black Magic" was uploaded about two months ago, "Poison to Poison" was uploaded in late January, and "Singin in the rain" is in a compilation. :3
I saw those. My previous comment was from almost a year ago. Now there's still "Anything You Can Do", "There's A New Sound," "Tweedle Dee," "The Yellow Rose Of Texas," "Weather Warehouse," "Stan Freberg Demands Credit," & "The Final Episode (December 15th 1961)". There are also a few noted in the 2 follwoing url's: www.toughpigs.com/anthmadison05.htm www.toughpigs.com/forumbam03.htm

I'm not quite old enough to know about "Sam and Friends", so I just found them. The puns had me laughing. I spit my coffee out on one of them.
Thanks!
Jim Henson always did like puns.
This was in 1955!. The first time Kermit was on Tv....Pure classics! Thank you!
I love it 😀
MY PAWN TAKES YOUR BISHOP CHECKMATE!
@joegover9452 Ooh, ya got me, Marshal!
The puns in this one I think are the best in the Sam & Friends series! Side-splitting!
RIP Jim Henson

I find it weird that the fact the Muppets have existed long enough to have made a High Noon reference.
