    It's amazing how the physical manipulation of the sound is so important, it gives the synthesis and timbre a really organic quality

      It's the subtle modulation that you really only get when it's the human touch. So much of that goes into traditional instruments but now here is an example of how technology can make a synth as human as any other instrument. This thing looks, and behaves like a true class of instrument of its own.

    I am so excited for mine to arrive. SOMA produces some of the most innovative experimental synths in this day and age. I absolutely love the expressiveness of this synth. The fusion of Nature and Technology is a big focus for my audio project, and I am excited to have the Terra and Enner in my set up :)
    Stellar instrument, and very cool demo of the the Terras' sound designing range.

    After rechecking the Superbooth videos over and over I am so happy with this video. You really did a great job with the rest of the algorithms. I overflow with ideas for using this instrument as an integral part of my new liveset. Pre-ordered day one and stilll very very happy I did

    I finally just 2 weeks ago pulled the trigger on my first Soma gear….Lyra, Cosmos and ROAT.
    Pulsar-23 has been on my radar for some time and I’ve been eyeing up this Terra since it was announced. My wife won’t be impressed when Im forced to sell our beloved 5 yr old son - though, the sounds flowing from my studio will hopefully make the pain a little easier…

    Wicked ehh, we used to make these type of things with basic vc oscillators, vc amps, random control buttons knobs and lights, plugging random stuff into other random stuff way back in the 80's when we were kids. We called them fun noise boxes (made them in wood boxes as well) - but everyone else we knew called them our annoying noise boxes! lol

    I especially love how this instrument brings a tape like movement to the sounds coupled with the ULTRA FM synthesis…. Also Can this be a controller to other devices , with you being able to control a sampler, digital mixer, effects etc with your patch.

Curious if you might chapter each scene so we might know the engine you used... or if another video is in the works walking thru each of the 32 engines? That would be awesome.     I know we have Pulsar, but I'd love to see what else Soma can come up with for Drums / rhythm. Something that allows for the kind of synthesis you get at 23:45, but allowing for sequencing, quantising etc. Maybe it's about including a MPE sequencer so that all of that expressiveness can be captured, but still tidied up if required. Quantise the note onsets

    incredibly beautiful instrument. I'm saving up for one now :) May I ask- are the controls operating using capacitive touch? I'm an instrument tinkerer & I've read it's possible to read pressure sensitivity using it but this is way beyond what I've seen anyone pull off.

    It sounds like some interesting synthesis types here, possibly some physical modelling and others. What kinds of synthesis are you using?

      combined methods - FM, subtractive, additive, modelling. this is a hard mixture:)

      @@somasynths You never cease to amaze me, it sounds wonderful. The layout of the semitones looks really interesting. If the root note is the middle one then I'd personally number that one as #1. Would be nice if they can do microtonal as well.

      Yes it has MIDI out and you can use it as a controller including MPE

    Bloody hell I've got the Enner on order for the next batch release to pair up with the Lyra-8 and Cosmos then Soma give us TERRA and this machine can traverse so many soundscapes even towards the blade runner vangelis spectrum.Have to wait for final purchase price but am very tempted!

    I'm really curious about changing the tuning as you play. How difficult or easy is it to modulate keys or change scales on the fly?

      After reading the manual, it looks like transposing an entire scale by an interval will be relatively easy, but switching scales will be more difficult. You could tune to a chromatic scale to play in all keys, but that would require more practice to play.
      I think playing the terra will be akin to playing different open guitar tunings. Each tuning will have its own character, and part of exploring the instrument would be exploring open tunings.

    This seems like a great instrument! The music that Vlad plays is mostly dark, the kind you would see in a horror movie, but I would love to hear the other side of this instrument, where you play something light, not so robotic and aggressive, is it possible?

      I think he selects the scale manually, if he picked a major scale or mode then it would sound lighter

    Can tuning presets be stored/loaded independently of the synth engine? Can you change synth engines and keep the tuning? It looks like other than the factory loaded tunings one must tune them by ear (or keep track of the cents.) Is this true or can tuning files be loaded via usb? If I wanted to get together with my friends who play guitar or piano, how difficult is it to get the Terra tuned to play with others? Looks awesome. I already enjoy my Lyra 8 quite a bit and look forward to trying out Terra.

    I always love everything SOMA does, and yet, can't afford their products at this moment (even their reasonably priced ones) and when I can, they're always sold out. I'm even about to be featured in an upcoming SOMA Compilation from a collective in Chile, but they had to sample the SOMA instruments for me. :(

      @@Eli_B3000 wouldn't sell any of my current synths for this. And yeah, I literally can't afford it at the moment. My income comes in very sporadically as a composer, so maybe when my next Royalty check comes in from my previous Film Scores, I'll be able to get it... but every time I do get a check, the SOMA stuff I want winds up being sold out, that's the issue. Just wish I had more steady income like I use to have back when I was making $100,000+ a year (financially it sucks being a struggling artist now, but I enjoy the freedom it gives me.)
