Pat Martino - guitar Eddie Green - electric piano, percussion Tyrone Brown - electric bass Sherman Ferguson - drums, percussion From the album "Consciousness"
Pat just died...quite a life and legacy. Glad I got his autograph. Listening to this now, when it was recorded 44 years ago, show how timeless Pat's music is...so much depth, and a lotta grease. Guess it was all those R&B gigs.
in almost every great song thee first comment is about death. my dad died and he loved this song, my so and so died and this song so and so,, why not just celebrate the good stuff instead of wording death like such a sad thing. im sorry but i just find it morbid.
He and Wes put out the best two versions of this song . Utterly breathtaking in its mastery, professionalism, and raw sincerity. One of the absolute greats of all time.
What a great player and person who blessed us with a legacy of wonderful music and kindness. Was lucky to meet him in 2006 when he came into the theater after his show and stayed to talk to everyone until they kicked us out! RIP Pat ❤️
After early Martino, all else is straw. Probably the greatest jazz guitar solo ever recorded along with On The Stairs-Consciousness and Sunny Live Album
To cover Coltrane's impressions , must say he did this particular number justice.... excellent... so in the pocket.... ; ) 🐈 Cats are Burning 🔥 this Number Down.... in a very Good Way 👍 😌 ☺
Pat was so friendly and willing to talk when I met him at the jazz showcase in 02?maybe 03?maybe saw him twice there once with Joey D.greT night thanks to Joe siegel
Hi all, Can someone suggest me to any musicians or any albums similar to this kind of blues music? I am first time listening to Pat Martino's music through Rick Beato's channel and this music has blown me away. It's fantastic. Thank you all in advance. Cheers to all.

@@skittlesstarburst4532 I know what it means. I’m saying in general, the sound of a guitar is much more staccato in general as compared with a saxophone, because of the way the instruments are physically
@@TheJofrica I hear ya... Pat executes every note unlike most guitarist. Most guitarist use legato and slurs.. Eddie Vanhalen for example barely picked in comparison to Pat. I thought you were saying he uses Staccato on every note.

Too rational thinking to play this piece on guitar it looks like it miss something like the soul and the heart, I prefer the piano solo, anyway this still is a masterpiece
"i love this piece i hate it its good but bad i haven't heard it im deaf, i have perfect pitch im pat martino what is music i like it, it doesnt swing"

Just personally, this is one of my favorite guitar solos ever.
Incredible artistry. RIP Pat Martino.
RIP. What a great player and thinker.
RIP! One of the all time great guitarists! I had the fortune to see Pat in 1974 in a small jazz club! I was blown away!
In philly?
i really like this type of jazz sounds like it was in 80's movie about a detective chasing a culprit in tricky ways
Great performance, I have listened to this hundreds of times since it was released in the 1970s.
me too, it`s something about this music that leads to another consciousness
Same here

+Stephen Pruszenski Would you say that they...made...quite the impression on you? Lol
obligatory mention of coltrane. but yea, besides the original, i think wes and pats recordings of it are amazing
Pat Martino's version of this tune is mesmerizing. That little dude is one of the absolute best guitarists ever.
check out larry coryel's live version, fast as hell.
obviously Coltrane name is implicit because he is the composer of the standard in the first place
Never get tired of Pat's Flight of the Bumble Bee quote at 1:44

seacow1970, that’s a cool, compact cadenza that wraps it up.

This album literally changed my life. Simply astounding performances here.
Yes. Fabulous Man of incredibly creative genius.
spectacular... love his teaching concepts about DIMINISHED 7th CHORDS leading to every other key by reducing the chord to four DOM seven inversions
Every leading chord is diminshed

Martino is one of the few jazz and fusion guitarists I haven't really listened to much...I was missing out because I really enjoyed this album

Truth
Bass player's lines are just as interesting as Martino's!!! Tyrone...you the man!!!
Tyrone dude is flyin' on the bass...
So sad to hear of his passing. So many legends gone... will live forever in their music
Gotta say, as great as Pat's guitar is here, just listen to what the bass player is doing. Phenomenal!
Pat was a force. There’s a sense of commitment and devotion behind all those notes.

It isn't the best fidelity I've ever heard, which is pretty odd for his caliber. Perhaps a reissue could help.
