I'd like to dedicate this song to my dearly departed boyfriend Pascal. He died trying to save innocent civilians in Africa almost 2 years ago. I sent him a link to this song before he left for his last mission. When he died I had a vision of a black and white image of the white rose. I love the song but every time I listen to it. It feels like a curse being placed upon him. Not saying that it is bad, it feels like a bitter sweet story of two that are not destined to be together but still think of each other. But it still feels like a curse

I like to think that the maiden wasn't human to begin with, but a spirit or a fairy (which sometimes are thought of as a kind of spirits). The scenery (the valley green was so serene, in the middle ran a stream so blue) reminds me of the famous painting of Ophelia (John Millais) and this would also fit the "...she turned to run, dancing to the setting sun as he watched her" nicely, since mythological creatures' activity and the Sun's positions go together as well as a cold winter day and a hot cup of ginger tea do. To sum it up, I think that it's a story about a lonely spirit that found salvation and peace through love.
