I was raised in NC in the sixties and a dog with a blocky build and a blocky head was called a boxer bulldog, and they didn't look like a boxer, then in 72 I saw my first pit bull and my uncle called it a game dog,I had a Johnson /Painter cross in 99,the dogs have always had color
You are correct the "American Bulldog" (notice the quotation marks) is not an Old Southern White or White English. The "American Bulldog" has been influenced by other breeds such as Walker Plot hounds, Blue Lacey Dogs, Black Mouth Curs, and Pitbull's and a few others. And yes the dog was a utility long before it was ever a pet. When, I was a kid we used to say that a good dog had a good color. Lastly the Acadians (Cajuns) that I got my old dogs from, Bronx (you've seen his picture) and Peaches. The Acadians called them Bull Dogs and in their litters (only two if I remember correctly) They even had some all fawn colored, black, white, brindle and piebald all in each litter. And the fawn ones had cur markings but were all Bulldogs in features and temperament. I love how you bring the true history of things my friend. And thanks for being a strait shooter. Unlike the Ball Juggler who is a mush mouthed Beta male Liar.
Right on. The American bulldog is just the American version of a bulldog. Bulldogs have been around for centuries. So many colors and shapes and sizes, of course they look different
Commented on another video but I think you’re spot on. I couldn’t agree more. Very similar with the APBT. That’s why I own SBT, because they are closer to the OG bull & terrier crosses with their DNA, now the standards. We’ll that kinda messed everything up LOL. That’s another convo
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels an old timer APBT breeder who retired and had STB told me, “they’re everything you’d on in an APBT but in a smaller package” after finding one and meeting them I knew that was spot on. Amen.. AMB is not a set look or color. There a sporting bread. They hunt they guard. They are a blessing too any farm or any family. These dogs are your ultimate guardians. They will protect what you protect. I prefer the more athletic dog that has a nose. Atleast a 4in nose.
My Corgi female is 1/2 Cardigan and 1/2 Pembroke. She got pregnant by the neighbors Labrador. She threw Pure Black with a Small White patch on their chest. However, they look just like a longer bit taller Corgi. Weird
I have 2 Johnson American bulldogs. I've had 2 litters with them daim is 95% white with a eye patch. Sire is white with brindle patches. 2nd litter I had 4 pups come out mostly brindle. I always have 1 solid white male. Because daims mom was solid white yes your right these dogs do have color
Everything you said is accurate, it is also the reason pitbulls have such a dramatic difference in looks, either being more bully or more terrier. I looked at that tools channel this morning from your video, it's literally a "channel of not" this is not this, or that is not that. Then you see some $40 dollar crates with dogs in them, no flooring.
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels thank you for the content. It boke my heart missing out on that black girl pup, but the timing wasn't right, so I didn't bother you with it. Whoever got her, got a great girl and deal, I hope they take full advantage and breed her to something great also.
Yea the guy that got her is a very experienced dogman. Has had a lot of experience with Bulldogs and APBT’s I’m sure he will do great things with her. He owned Mountain Man’s Homer at one point among several others.

I have a question im looking maybe getting a American bulldog. There is any major pros and cons to Rescue Amerbull compare to one that's from a Breeder?
Rescue dogs in general usually have some type of trauma or negative background. Me personally I would never get one from a rescue if it was an older dog. That’s not to say that the dogs are sub par to what some folks are breeding but I would proceed with caution and want to know why the dog is at the rescue. It could be for something minor.
@@prideofthesouthlandkennels truth. I love working bulldogs and mastiffs but I don't have a role yet for a working dog. Im just looking a good dog that protects my home and a good friend.
That is a role for the dog my friend make no mistakes about it. If that dog knows what his job is he will enjoy it and thrive at it. In this situation it would be to protect the family and property. Perfect job.
