Linda does such a great version of this Smokey Robinson song. She is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Blue Bayou", "Long Long Time", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Linda also collaborated with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris on a few "Trio" albums.

Linda Ronstadt was one of the first female rock stars. She had a long and iconic career. Throughout it all, she maintained her dignity devoid of heavy drugs which were prevalent at the time. In her career, she had multiple platinum, multi-platinum and gold songs and albums.

I was 20 when this was recorded. By that time I was already in love with Linda, along with almost every other man. Willie Nelson was correct when he said, "There are 2 kinds of men in this world... Those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who have never heard of her."

This song was first recorded by Motowns Smkey Robinson and the Miracles, Linda had an opportunity to sing the song live with the person who co-wrote the sang, Smokey Robinson.

“The Tracks of My Tears” was written in 1965 by William “Smokey” Robinson, Jr., Warren Moore and Marv Tarplin, three members of the Miracles. The group recorded it in Studio A of Motown's Hitsville USA facility, with the Miracles' lead singer, Smokey Robinson, as producer.
Released on Motown's Tamla label (catalogue number T-54118) the record made it to No. 2 in the “Billboard” R&B charts (and No. 3 in “Cash Box”) and also crossed over into the pop charts where it reached No. 16 in both the “Billboard” and “Cashbox” Top 100.

She is just as remarkable live as on a studio recording. Her voice is pure, her range incredible, and her delivery conveys pure emotion . She can mesmerize an audience. Desperado live in Atlanta 1977 is a classic example.

She is of hispanic descent, i believe on her mother's side, and she is very much bilingual. I have only heard a few selections from her Hispanic catalogue, but she was a member of the band "Stone Ponies" and she had a major solo career, plus she even did a tv version of the Pirates of Penzance. She is currently retired due to health issues, and I wish her the best. At least we have a mountain of music to look back on.

Great song an all time favorite of mine. Actually a cover originally by Smokey Robinson. Linda and Dusty Springfield, i suggest reacting to her also are noted for doing covers as good or as better than the original. Dusty was from the UK in the rock and roll hall of Fame as Linda. Linda is one of the greatest singers ever.

Linda is my favorite singer of all time, male or female, but unfortunately she had to stop because of her illness. She is certainly the most versatile, with the possible exception of Floor Jansen, of any vocalist I've ever listened to and I'm 71 years old. She has sang, Country, Country/Rock, Rock, Pop, R&B, Disney-type music, has played on Broadway in a Classical Operetta and then was also in the movie version of the same, called, 'Pirates of Penzance'. She has also performed 3 albums worth of Great American Standard/Big Band/Swing music and then another 3 albums of Traditional Mexican music. She has done collaborations with James Ingram, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and many, many others. Did she have the highest range? No, but it was pretty darn high and she could belt like a lot of female singers could only hope for and the purity of her vocals on many of her ballads could make you cry. I've been a fan since the late 1960's and have somewhere close to 20 of her albums. My favorite ballad sung by her is the song, "Faithless Love" written by her one time boyfriend, J.D. Souther and my favorite American Standard sang by her is "What's New" with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Other than that I can truthfully say that my favorite Linda Ronstadt song is whichever one I heard last. Great job young lady. Keep bringing us some Linda from time to time. Thank you.

Too bad you are not listing to more country. You listened to just a few and then stopped. I think you could be popular listening to country. If you do, try Martina McBride since you seem to like beautiful female voices. If you listen to Martina, I suggest finding a good live performance from her but her videos are good as well. Reba McEntire is great as well and her live performances are also great.
