    Chris! You are a dream come true, a long term Sea Org member, veteran, who took the system seriously, who had/has the skills to communicate and put into a video, an excellent (best I've ever seen) explanation of the Sea Org Scientology management problems and history these last 40 years.
    It's way deep into the weeds, but the best video/power point explanation ever, to date!

    Chris, that was a fine exposition that made sense of Miscavige's power grab. I thought he was quite insightful about himself when he said in his interview with Ted Koppel that power is assumed and is based on the fact that people listen to you. The corollary being that those who listen or follow have knowingly or unknowingly handed over their power to him or Hubbard or the ideals of the movement.
    The sense of return of your own power... and love... is shown in your "I am an Ex-Scientologist" video. Similar wake up for me when I left. For a time I almost had to pinch myself to know I wasn't dreaming, so long I'd been asleep.

    I'm glad your channel is doing so well, Chris. You put a ton of work into it and it shows. And you *never* half-ass anything. I wish everyone on RUclips were as diligent as you.
    I want to suggest a topic to you, one coincidentally well-suited to Halloween. (Though it's actually quite serious.) Recently on some ex-Scientologist/ex-Sea Org message boards I've been reading about a fascinating, tragic phenomenon that I'd never encountered before. (Isn't "fascinating and tragic" the official Scientology motto?) It might be termed "Widespread Psychosis in the Sea Org."
    We all know about Lisa McPherson's Scientology-flavored break with reality. (She babbled to the police about how she was an OT but no one knew it, stripped off her clothes, etc--just like Hubbard did every afternoon.) And there are the many suicides, even several murder-suicides. (Including the guy from Sons of Anarchy.) Plus Jon Atack's speech for psychiatric workers in the UK (at the big hospital they used to call Bedlam), where he was told "we get about three OTIIIs a year as patients."
    But weirdest, and most fascinating, is the psychosis which is apparently well established among active Sea Org workers. According to what I read, "magical thinking" is common, and in particular there's a belief in telepathic contact with gods (some), the devil and demons (more), and even with other Sea Org workers who are considered frightening and vaguely evil (even more). This actually amounts to a belief that certain people in your life are *fucking demons in human disguise*! I would have written this claim off as one person's mentally-unwell experience, but many other alumni of the SO (and especially Big Blue) knew much about this. Something about the style and astonishing level of mind control people are subjected to seems to put them at increased risk of things like this. As a reader and avowed critical thinker, I'm sure you're aware of the dangers of magical thinking. And when Satan himself is acting as your life coach, shit can get dark real fast. (Hubbard's numerous claims to be Satan incarnate, not to mention his attempts to create a "Moonchild," aka the Antichrist, to do his bidding, and his "very good friend" Aleistar Crowley, were Very Good Indicators of where he stood on the God-Satan meter. Rock slam!)
    It's not the Sea Org member's fault in the slightest, but many of them are apparently quite affected mentally and emotionally, by they do seem to distribute this folié a deux to the Sea Org.
    Anyway, I wanted to make that suggestion, and express my admiration. Best of luck to you.
    Andy

    Excellent presentation Chris! You've de-mystified and laid out the organization very well. The only suggestion I would make would be regarding the title. The "madness" term in title won't throw off everyday people but is likely to deter most scientologists "in good standing" from watching. Unfortunately, those are the people who most need to see it.

      @ChrisSheltonMsc  9 лет назад +5

      +Tim Lobb Maybe. It's my most watched video ever, so I think if anything has the best chance of being seen by existing Scientologists, it's this one.

    • @VladProdigious
      @VladProdigious 8 лет назад +2

      +Chris Shelton (Critical Thinker at Large)
      Yeah, if anything because they can't avoid hearing people talk about it, it's bound to stir their interest and for many they won't be able to help themselves, they'll feel they just have to see what this video is all about.
      If for some reason this video had one of your lowest views, Tim Lobb might've been right. But at the end of the day people who are Scientologists are still human, and humans are curious, they want to know what's being said about them and about something they care about and/or have a connection to.
      I guess we can conclude that negatively loaded words in the title - when the video concerns Scientology (because of the stigma it has build over the years) - is a good tactic to draw traffic. And of course it also doesn't hurt when the person who creates, writes, presents and narrates the video is a well known highly talented person like yourself. :)
      Thank you for doing what you're doing. I have no ties to Scientology (though they know of me because I once paid them a visit and have been on their mailing list ever since), but I have a strong aversion towards abuse, particularly emotional abuse of the kind that we see Scientology is dealing with - and has been dealing with since the start because L. Ron Hubbard designed it that way with the specific intention of profiting off people's insecurities and wish to understand themselves and the world around them better.
      The reason why I've become so particularly interested in Scientology may be that I live in a country, Denmark - which happens to house the European Headquarter of Scientology - which has perfected the art of pacifying and controlling almost in minute detail how people think and behave. As someone who has never been passively inclined and who has always had a strong ambitious drive towards doing something worthwhile with my life and be the very best I can be (the very epitome of what is NOT welcomed or liked in my country) I have been met with very heavy amounts of obstacles, doors being closed, shunning, and social isolation (as well as having unlawful records made by the police about illegal acts that I never committed, but I'm being denied any opportunity to prove my innocence wherefore the possibility for me to ever have a career in this country is nil).
      While I've always been passionate about supporting people who put effort into doing something about injustice and malicious control and abuse of other people, I'm now even more than ever decisive about helping out if and where I can, and now I have an advantage I didn't have to begin with: I've got nothing to loose because everything has already been taken away from me.
      This is why I think I can safely say - on behalf of the many who have been or who still are being abused by Scientology - thank you for being who you are and for doing what you do, Mr. Shelton.

    By 17:00 in, it's clear to this outsider not only THAT this setup is systematically abusive (which is apparent from sworn testimony from former members), but also HOW. The requirement of power differential (for "abuse," vs. simply "bad behavior") is clearly met, with an orchestrated chaos built in to undermine the predictability necessary for strong, healthy attachments. No wonder Scientology is imploding -- and with significant pain and vitriol from many victims.... 😔

      That's how they have operated for years- through fear. They can't do that forever and it takes brave people like Chris to speak out to stop their corruption and censorship. If we all stay silent, then evil wins. When you cease to be afraid, there is very little they can do to silence you and more people need to realise that. Chris has a vast amount of support outside scientology, and a great deal of respect. They cannot crush or silence that.

      jupitersdreaming Oh you. Thanks for your show of support. We need to take this corrupt organization down. Every voice that contributes to the fight moves us that much closer to our goal of abolishing Miscavige's corrupt regime and removing this threat to free thought and free speech from society.

    This video is awesome, well explained and makes total sense. the one questions I've always had on my mind was. exactly what is Miscavige's training or case level? Since he has access to everything and can tell how an auditor is faulty etc. one would assume he did it all himself no? Did LRH train him? maybe the base for another great video!

    Excellent. I've been following this topic for many years but this video really cleared up some things for me. Do you think you could tackle an explanation of CST (Church of Spiritual Technology) as it relates to RTC etc.?

    • @ChrisSheltonMsc
      @ChrisSheltonMsc  10 лет назад +3

      Yeah, I need to do that. Explain the big corporate scam going on behind the scenes. For now, you can find some good references to this on The Underground Bunker which give clear explanations of CST and what that's all about.

    Very well done video Chris! It sounds as if CMO was one of the, dare I say, "safer" places to be. At least, pre-Miscavige.

    24:11 David Miscavige used to be the Action Chief CMO Int. That's why he was running those two missions you then lay out. Janis Grady has written, I think on the XSO chat site, that is private only to ex Sea Org members, of David Miscavige's years when he was Action Chief CMO Int. Paul Grady, Janis' husband today, both are out, Paul will hopefully go public to smart researchers and explain also that period. Paul later became a long term Action Chief CMO Int. I hope Janis and Paul get interviewed by smart researchers and their history info added.
    Masterful best ever talk Chris!
    Janis and Paul ought to be sought out by some ghost writers and do a book of Janis and Paul's and Janis' sister Terri Gamboa's stories. Terri was even higher up the totem pole, Terri was with David Misavige all through these years, and when Miscavige rose up to be Chairman of the Board Author Services Int, that's when Terri Gamboa became the first Executive Director of Author Services Int, and Terri witnessed firsthand ALL of the Hubbard traffic from that whole period to after Hubbard's death.
    For the serious interested researchers, Paul, Janis, Terri are easily reachable, and will talk with the right questions asked by informed and understanding researchers/writers/journalists.

      26:14 very important list of people, who ALL, some of them have, written of their histories.
      I wish to heck that especially the CMO people and ASI people, and the old Class 12s still alive, DO write their histories.
      Very important list of persons, hope they all write their biographies and put them on the internet for future serious Scientology history researchers.
      The great books, like Jon Atack's "Piece of Blue Sky" and Bent Corydon's book and Russell Miller's book, have lots of important history, as does Stuart Lamon'ts "Religion Inc. " book which has some one of a kind history of this same period Chris talks of.
      The "John Zegal" tapes are illuminating and must listen to for experts of this period of Scientology history. John Zegal being the step father of Marc Yager who was a later long term Commanding Officer CMO Int, and Yager was an infamous punching bad yes-man, dismally and tragically, to David Miscavige's psychopathic behavior as cult boss once Hubbard died.
      Layers of Hubbard's own pathological bad practices that the heirs of Scientology management were stuck perpetrating on each other.
      It takes years to unwind from the complexities of Hubbard's idiocies that people were lead to perpetrate on each other vying for Hubbard's praise and acceptance.
      37:40 IN fact it is impossible to get out of Scientology what Hubbard promised, since Hubbard promises blue sky.

    Ironically, the smiling face of Mr M appears in an advert panel right next to your video; in which my attention was absorbed for its duration. Yes, the video section of the David M website (not COS labelled) is populated by members stating how much he’s micromanaged their work. Of course they see it as being helpful to their mission and couldn’t do it without him. Perhaps through many historic examples, other leaders, who thought they were equally indispensable, prove that strategy is bound to fail.

      'prison system' was a loose comparison. it's more like a labor camp.
