Living in Russia is a free lesson in lighting. It's the only way I can explain my nostalgia for Russian scenery, and why the Metro series and the STALKER series look the way they do.

This game is lovably janky and has a amateur charm to it. It screams passion project and I respect that. Not perfect but intriguing.

I don't even remember if I was the one that recommended this to you, but you are on-point with it's inspirations. It feels like a genuine mid-00's Eurojank FPS in the best way possible. I'm surprised you go on about how interactive the levels were, practically every object can be thrown around or broken, it's on par with the interactivity of Half-Life: Alyx in some places, which is pretty damn impressive for a one-man show!
That scene with a civie. That was nice, like there is a world building, like you aren't Gordon Messiah Freeman, people won't throw ammo and supplies they themselves need at you
Hey Jarek, ever played Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi? It's a horror-FPS game, but not like Soma or Amnesia. It's in 1912, you're in a castle, you fight against vampires, dark being and monsters to save your relatives. It has some interesting mechanics but I don't want to go into detail much. I would suggest that game to you. It didn't age that well, but you should be able to run it on your modern PC.
I've been following the developer of this game for YEARS way back in the day, ever since he started to when the game got released, he inspired me a lot in trying to make games, back then with Unity still. Love the guy, and his passion for his game. Really happy you made a video on this! :)
Hey Jarek mind taking a look at Deep Rock Galactic two weeks ago the game has come out of Early Access (a milestone not many games reach in there) and at least in my opinion you might enjoy it not just because of it being a shooter but it has a few similarities to games like DOOM that encourage you to be mobile as some enemies can only be attacked from the rear. The enemies are also alien in nature not exactly like the aliens from Xen in Half Life but more spider in appearance called Glyphids that come in all shapes and sizes but are also aided with other aliens like Macteras and Naedocyte that at least for the Naedocyte are mostly small in size except for the Breeder which if allowed will constantly lay eggs sending hatchlings your way, you'll know its close by once you start hearing the sounds of a whale while down in the caves. store.steampowered.com/app/548430/Deep_Rock_Galactic/
I like the small touches you find in the game . like sometime you find PC monitor with the program Sketchup on them and you see the what appear like the developer using it to make this game maps . And you know what . i don't mind the jank surrounding the game . he got some solid levels in the game and i did enjoy the exploration part a lot .i will love to see Red Alliance 2
One man projects are fascinating and usually fun to play. Ghost of a Tale, Grimoire and now this. And I like old FPS games and would agree with 0:23 if not the obnoxious DRMs like StarForce that might not only kill fun but also your PC...
Thanks for this, I got the game and actually had a surprisingly enjoyable experience. I agree with pretty much all criticism, but if you accept the jank it's easy to get immersed in the atmosphere. There are quite smart secrets and some witty tongue-in-cheek dialogue as well. If combat was more balanced this would be a really good FPS as well. But at least shooting FEELS good.
Got this because of your review and I must say another hidden gem to me 👍 thanks for these vids bro, have to catch a stream and not be a complete idiot XD.
The animation when people talk with guns in their hands, straight out of Grove Street San Andreas. Yeah this game must be fun ahahahaha Edit: I also love how he throws those RGD grenades with the pin and everything attached xD
They had the M4and 74u probably share ammo because they are both similarly chambered in intermediate cartridges; although different caliber. They had the Scar sharing larger caliber ammo also; but funny if labeling it Scar L. Scar L(light, 556 like the m4) and Scar H(heavy, larger 308 cartridge) So it would still not make any sense.. video game logic.
Found out randomly through the comments section you are a fan of the Forgotten weapons channel ,so i now have to find a way to double thumbs up all your videos. Also if you don't already know of the Inrange channel of Ian's and Karl's as well as if you love the historical context of firearms C&Rsenal make good thorough content also.
I am so happy you covered the game. it's early levels give me the hl2 vibes . to the last mission in where enemy comes in waves kind of poorly designed part of the game . what is a shame . still did enjoy exploring the game if you ask me.
The weapon design of this game reminds me back in the days of 2000s games or slightly later, where game devs had little to no idea how weapons worked and based off how they worked with limited knowledge of airsoft guns or whatnot. Also, weapon showcase for this game coming soon?
You told us there was one person who suggested the game. I was also the one who said how about a review of call of duty 3 (not black ops3) back in 2006? If you do, i appreciate that. Love your channel...
Honestly, bad voice acting can be a bit of charm for a cheap/bad game like this. As long as you don't expect anything more, you can have a good laugh and a good time shooting stuff, with little commitment.
Theres a "player is right handed" option to check off, im assuming that means this game allows playing with a left handed view model? If so that alone makes me want to pick it up, the only shooter that ive played with a lefty view model was Arctic Warfare and sadly thats been shut down for years

The stalker effect: stellar lighting making up for stiff anims
Stalker's creature/character animations are actually pretty decent. It's the first person weapon animations that are true jank

Borschtpunk Half-Life 2
One russian + 2 classes of unity code + 6 Bottles of Vodka = Awesome Game

And that's a fact
"Awesome" seems like a pretty big overstatement imo. Doesn't look terrible but awesome?
It's not an "awesome" game, it's "alright" at best. All of the good parts are crimped from better games, it has no voice of its own.
Ironic
Didn't Escape from Tarkov basically start as Nikita and his shed?

Short and sometimes with gamebreaking bugs, but definitely an interesting game I'd recommend to people if they can stomach restarting by force.
Dude spent 8 years on this game, the hard work and dedication definitely paid off
If this game was made by a bigger team, this could be a triple A title
