The food you eat is one of my favorite. It's called mixed mushroom soup. You can find it on the streets of Bangkok, on carts. It's a healthy food. I'm so surprise that you like it as it has unique taste which a few foreigner will resist. You're easy-eater. It consists of 3 types of mushrooms: jelly mushroom, eryngii mushroom, golden needle mushroom, pumpkin, sweet potato, zucchini lemon grass chilli and basil. The dark green water is Yanang leaf juice. It is a herb and medicine uses for detoxify and have a cooling effect. Isan food uses Yanang juice with pickled bamboo shoots. It's Thai wisdom.
1st Esan food you got.. called Mushroom Soup. It's full with herbs & vegetables good for your health. So tasty. Glad saw you like it 💟👍Green soup that you saw like black is from a kind of herb's leaf called in Thai "Ya Nang". It 's squeeze til be juice ( Bai-ya-nang juice). It's science name is Tiliacora triandra (Colebr.) Diels. Called.. Bamboo grass in English name. Because you can find it under big tree such as bamboo and..many kinds of trees, half shad half sun light area.

I think this guy is great. I'm from the UK and when he said he was from Russia I was shocked, because I assume nothing good comes from that country!! However he was really polite, engaging, loved cats (and I'm a cat lover), and then the way he engaged with the little girl at the end? Also he has taken the trouble to learn the lingo, I have to admit I'm very impressed with him as a human being. By the way I've never been to Thailand...

Hey!, 😮 Excellent 1st video of the Isaan’s Trip and what a glorious Korat temple ground, This trip is worth the wait.👌 The curry/soup you had called Gaeng Hed Isaan I think, the dark liquid come from Bai YaNang leaves, very unique taste (from what I remember, been over 10 years since I had this soup/curry) So glad you enjoyed it, and can not wait to see more from Isaan. (thin black clothing transmits that heat to the skin, making a person hotter).
Kang Het is famous I San soup. "Het" is Mushroom in Thai. Green water in the first is Bai ya nang [Yanang leaves] it was Key ingredient of Kang Het. sorry for my poor English.
Korat is the best place for Isaan food 'cause its not too Isaan. The culture has been mixed from central thai and Isaan . Korat is considered the gate of Isaan..even the language has derived from central part and original Isaan but seem more central for me. If you know some local people and let them tell you the story of Korat you will find that Korat is such a great city with their unique culture.👍👍👍

Hey! Are you going to Khon Kaen too? That’s my favourite place in Thailand. The Nam phong national park (Hin Chang Si View point) is beautiful and so is the Damn and the lake, the Zoo is also unique as you can stay there and wake up in the morning watching gifarres walking right outside your bungalow it’s amazing... there’s also bouldering at the zoo (look up Khon Kaen climbing club).... in the city I’d recommend staying at KK Centrum or Kosa hotel. 🙂 Hit me up if you’d like know anything more. I’ve been there plenty of times, and Sikhiu and Korat too. 👌

When you're in that kind of heat, eat lots of tropical fruits, or fruit smoothies. I don't know how it works, but it really helps with the heat. Spicy foods help too.

Sima Thani Hotel is good, close to the city of Korat, too. It's easy to find things to eat as well.The way you eat them is called Phak Wan with mushrooms

That mushroom soup consist of mushrooms, pumpkin, Melientha suavis (ผักหวานป่า), fermented fish sauce (ปลาร้า), Angled loofah(บวบเหลื่ยม), and Tiliacora juice (น้ำใบย่านาง).

@25:43 - an isaan/Lao staple! so glad you’re enjoying the gaeng no mai (which has pla la/pa daek and yanang leaves (for the dark green color and aroma) that gives it the rich flavor. It’s also best eaten with a side of sticky rice! thank you for indulging in our food like the rest of the locals 🥰
I love Kang Het (Kang=Curry/Soup, Het=Mushroom). The black broth is Ya Nang leaf juice which is a key ingredient. Ya Nang leaf juice can be an ingredient in some other Isaan food too. The black mushrooms soup you've called is " Gang Hed" the the black broth made frome "Ya Nang" juice ,"Ya Nang " is Traditional Thai Vegetable ,it is an ivy .the leaves itself look like mango leaves. In Isaan menu we put " Yan Nang" in Bamboo shoot, Mushroom to make "Gang".
The soup is called 'keng par'. This is in our city and we are sitting in our house in England, cold and miserable. We can't wait to come home to Korat.

We call the bamboo mushroom soup. Gang nor mai, usually spicy with mushroom, bamboo, pumpkin, squash sometimes with pak wan(sweet plant).
And it definitely has “pla ra” in it, but the yanang leaf extract is the ingredient that gives it the dark color and distinct flavor.. yummy 😋
I think Gaag Hed, we don't put bamboo in the curry.

That mushroom soup consist of mushrooms, pumpkin, Melientha suavis (ผักหวานป่า), fermented fish sauce (ปลาร้า), Angled loofah(บวบเหลื่ยม), and Tiliacora juice (น้ำใบย่านาง).

@25:43 - an isaan/Lao staple! so glad you’re enjoying the gaeng no mai (which has pla la/pa daek and yanang leaves (for the dark green color and aroma) that gives it the rich flavor. It’s also best eaten with a side of sticky rice!

I love Kang Het (Kang=Curry/Soup, Het=Mushroom). The black broth is Ya Nang leaf juice which is a key ingredient. Ya Nang leaf juice can be an ingredient in some other Isaan food too. I enjoyed your vlog, thank you for sharing. Explore in late afternoon, evening is a good idea to avoid the heat. Enjoy your journey Mickey.
The black mushrooms soup you've called is " Gang Hed" the the black broth made frome "Ya Nang" juice ,"Ya Nang " is Traditional Thai Vegetable ,it is an ivy .the leaves itself look like mango leaves. In Isaan menu we put " Yan Nang" in Bamboo shoot, Mushroom to make "Gang".

It's not vegetarians because the main seasoning is fish sauce, fermented fish aka "Pla Ra".

The soup is called 'keng par'. This is in our city and we are sitting in our house in England, cold and miserable. We can't wait to come home to Korat.
