The lack of the animatronic set pieces (dragon, croc) makes sense economically and financially, but I can't help but feel that they remove major selling points of the show.

The dragon will return soon, the crocodile simply can't fit in the river post-Galaxy's Edge

I prefer the 2022 show -and not just because of the missing dragon. It was a far more polished version than what we have now. Of course i prefer Peter Pan over Pirates, but even that seems lackluster compared to the projection and lighting effects used in the Pirates sequence.

One thing that was missed: Imagination song from defunct Fantasmic from Tokyo DisneySea was removed as reverted to the original Bruce Healey's Exit Music as it does prior to 2017 revamp.

The last big change is the removal of several characters that used to appear on the Mark Twain. That thing is pretty bare now compared to what it used to be

I like a lot of the audio visual changes. The show was too busy in the 2017 remake. Tje finale is better. Tjey are always tweaking the lights and lyro and the version they have now works for me. Original was too dark. In this version the spotlights in the mark twain are white which makes sense here because its representing steamboat willie. Still miss and prefer the original show/score. If they used the new tech with the old score, it would be perfect

When is Murphy the Dragon Returns like Maleficent Dragon (1991-1992-2009-2024 50-Foot-Tall Animatronic Dragon) from Fantasmic Returns on Disneyland?

Glad to see Peter Pan back, but he didn’t “fly” and at the end Captain Hook wasn’t swinging back and forth across the stern of the ship.
Aladdin and Jasmine dancing was a bore. They seemed lonely up there by themselves. Many are making excuses. “No magic carpet because the mechanism was damaged in the fire.” That was over a year ago. I think there has been time enough to repair or replace it. Disney apparently just decided not to. Classic Disney. How many animatronics or effects in attractions stop working and never get fixed? Just turn it off, dim the lighting or stick a strobe light on it. (The doors on Indiana Jones, the cannons on Rise of the Resistance, the Yeti on Everest etc etc and so on.) Of course, it did take Disney over two years just to remodel a tree house so maybe they need more time to get the show complete and right.
Maleficent without the dragon was anticlimactic. Anyone who says otherwise is pretending and unaccepting of reality. It was like waiting for the big moment and the moment never came. Mickey is just jumping around trying to avoid a few projected roots. It was _pathetic_ when compared to previous shows. Even bringing out the puppet dragon from the original show would have been better than completely eliminating the dragon. You get flames on the water (which in itself is cool) and both Maleficent and Mickey are flailing their arms around with nothing else happening;. Yawn.
When the Mark Twain came out it was like it was under populated. Where was everybody? Reduced staff from budget cuts or people didn’t answer the casting call?
It’s like the _entire show_ was operating in “B” mode. Hopefully, this is not the final product and the more exciting and impressive elements will be later added.
This show is simply a ghost of it’s former self. Anyone claiming it was a great show after seeing years of previous iterations is simply trying to convince themselves and are just fooling themselves. Of course, anyone who has never seen the show before no doubt thoroughly enjoyed it. If this were the original show it would have been phenomenal, but it came off as a severely trimmed down sub par version of what the show was meant to be.
Great that the show is back, but if Disney really cared about the guest experience then they would have done it right rather than cut rate, but does Disney care? Yes, about budget and revenue.
You lost The Court of Angels to high dollar Club 33 members, you can no longer sit by the bank of the (shortened) Rivers of America at the Hungry Bear and toss french fries to the ducks, for decades Tomorrwland has no longer been a “world on the move” full of kinetic energy, budget cuts on Galaxy’s Edge along with forced story lines to push current IP left the land wanting (the place would have been absolutely phenomenal if they had stuck to original plans), think about how many attractions in the park just closed and vanished without replacement or at best got turned into a food location or a shop, California Adventure 1.0 was a disaster and it still doesn’t hold a candle to its sister across the esplanade, the Hollywood Back lot languishes as wasted space with empty buildings, remember viewing Fantasmic from the balcony of the former Disney Gallery? - I do, Avengers Campus is nothing more than shops, restaurants and food carts, Splash Mountain is gone because it was “racially sensitive” even though most guest who ride it never heard of “Song of the South”, a myriad of "woke" changes accelerating over the years to appease vocal minorities feigned offense to the perplexment of the family majority, you’ve lost beautiful peaceful Magnolia Gardens to queue space for an attraction ignoring other unobtrusive options and the list goes on and on.
Disney is either thinking, “The guest will get used to this new version and accept it.” or this show is more of a test and a prequel of better things to come. I feel it is more likely the former, but I hope they do plan on improving the current uninspiring finale. My hope is that the Chernabog from Fantasia will eventually be brought in to replace the dragon. He is after all prominently displayed on the mist screens. No flames on the animatronic though. Disney has the know how to simulate flame with fog, lighting and projections. That’s my hope, but confidence is not high.
This show compares to expecting a new Ferrari and ending up with a Pontiac Fiero. Shame on Disney if this is the final product. If not then I feel it would have been better to wait until the full and proper show was ready for prime time before presenting it. However, sub par or not, the show brings in more paying guests and that’s the desired result - no matter how disappointing the product is.
