Currently enjoying my career in a public sector company. I love my job I love being a civil engineer and the reputation and respect I get in the society. The feeling of being called engineer sahab is next level😅 So give your 100 percent in your degree and you can do wonders both in private and government sectors.

Civil is a overstressed and underpaid branch. No matter how skilled you are, still you are being paid less as compared to your workload. Even if you consider USA and other developed countries, civil engineers are underpaid. Everyone opts a professsion to live a respectable life and achieve his financial goals. There are so many fields that are easier than civi and pay is more so why to stick with this oldest shitty branch. The RUclipsr is right to some extent.
I am Civil Engineer, 1994 batch through WBJEE from one reputed college in WB. Well placed. At that time there was no private college in WB. All students depended on 1200 seats available under WBJEE in 4 govt eng colleges - Jadavpur University, Bengal Engineering College (currently IIEST), 20% seat reserved in NIT Durgapur and North Bengal. As per WBJEE rank whatever branch we got, we had to select it. There was absolutely no choice back then. Now, students have more choices. If they can afford paying higher fees in pvt eng college, I recommend to go for CSE. Reason is simple - Possibility of getting good base salary is high. However, before entering into any colleges one need to check how is its placement history. Regarding Civil Engg, do not expect good base salary from any college. Even in IIT Kharagpur, average CTC was only Rs 15L last yr or so. One can imagine what will happen to other colleges. In JU I found 97 out of 106 got placed in campus interview from Civil Engg dept - base salary ranges from Rs 3L and > Rs 20L. I am sure majority got jobs in IT sector, not in Civil Engg sector. So, go for CSE / Electronics / Instrumentation / IT / Electrical in govt or pvt colleges, provided its placement history is good.
I am admitted in Jadavpur University Civil Engineering this year. But still confused should I change it to chemical engineering or electrical engineering in decentralize.

Learn to code, make some fake experience of 1 year ( internship etc) and somehow join a company. You will get calls. Don't wait for Civil Engineering companies. There are no companies in civil engineering in private. Or if you have patience and can crack exams then try govt job that's the only way. Last option - MBA

Civil engineering is solely for state Ae je exam . Private jobs are actually not worth it because thekedaari still relevant and plus you paid less than labourer.
I can give one example of benefit of Civil Engineering. I knew two people who lost jobs during pandemic - One a Civil Engineer and another a software developer. Civil Engineer lost job around age 52 years. He started practicing as private consultant and after 2-3 years has started earning more than Rs 1L per month, only by doing designing and consulting. The 2nd one - software developer lost job in Jan 2024. Age 50 years. No choice but took retirement. Why? In today's vast rapidly change in software technology, its difficult to learn new technology at age 50 years. Currently no choice but seat idle at home, thinking to start business like opening some shops like that. With age and experience Civil Engineer demands increases whereas its just the reverse in CSE. My advice, its too early to regret your decision of choosing Civil Engineering. It can help you earn even at the age of 70 years. That's not the case in any other areas.

U can also move to it sector life SDE etc 3. There are many mnc companies (jp Morgan, kpmg, Goldman)that hire for non technical roles like analysts particularly from electronics or circuital branches 4. ECE grads can give gate move into PSU or prepare for ECE exam
@@arun-kumar78 my friend did internship at LG electronics he said most of the process is automated and they are also using AI to reduce dependency on testing and maintanence engineers and workers and as for embedded engineers AI can easily write an assembly code better than 85% of the engineers so no scope in electronics as well

Guys if u think civil is bad than then let me know u the avg package of cs branch student from iit is 1 to 1.5 lakh a month maxmimum 🙂ground reality and other students either r unemployed or get job like 60,000 a month or less if u r happy with it then go for cs and stuck with corporate things 🙂👍
I did bachelors in civil and worked with a Tier-1 contractor in Mumbai. My salary started with 3.5 lakhs and went upto 5 lakhs in the span of 3.5 years. It was short lived until I moved to Australia. I made a pivot to mining and now my salary is way better and I have perfect work life balance.

I suggest you to go for circuit branch sis.... Don't join civil it has no scope or no value... I am saying it from my experience... don't hesitate go for CS/ECE... But never join core branch... Even IITians and NITians are struggling after civil engineering

If you work under any developer company then it's really hard to settle your career but you get a job like TATA consultancy then you can gain knowledge & build your career. Construction is always a hard sector in any county but it gives you much facilities if you can gain experience & knowledge.

I am Civil Engineer, 1994 batch through WBJEE from one reputed college in WB. Well placed. At that time there was no private college in WB. All students depended on 1200 seats available under WBJEE in 4 govt eng colleges - Jadavpur University, Bengal Engineering College (currently IIEST), 20% seat reserved in NIT Durgapur and North Bengal. As per WBJEE rank whatever branch we got, we had to select it. There was absolutely no choice back then. Now, students have more choices. If they can afford paying higher fees in pvt eng college, I recommend to go for CSE. Reason is simple - Possibility of getting good base salary is high. However, before entering into any colleges one need to check how is its placement history. Regarding Civil Engg, do not expect good base salary from any college. Even in IIT Kharagpur, average CTC was only Rs 15L last yr or so. One can imagine what will happen to other colleges. In JU I found 97 out of 106 got placed in campus interview from Civil Engg dept - base salary ranges from Rs 3L and > Rs 20L. I am sure majority got jobs in IT sector, not in Civil Engg sector. So, go for CSE / Electronics / Instrumentation / IT / Electrical in govt or pvt colleges, provided its placement history is good.
I am admitted in Jadavpur University Civil Engineering this year. But still confused should I change it to chemical engineering or electrical engineering in decentralize.

I can give one example of benefit of Civil Engineering. I knew two people who lost jobs during pandemic - One a Civil Engineer and another a software developer. Civil Engineer lost job around age 52 years. He started practicing as private consultant and after 2-3 years has started earning more than Rs 1L per month, only by doing designing and consulting. The 2nd one - software developer lost job in Jan 2024. Age 50 years. No choice but took retirement. Why? In today's vast rapidly change in software technology, its difficult to learn new technology at age 50 years. Currently no choice but seat idle at home, thinking to start business like opening some shops like that. With age and experience Civil Engineer demands increases whereas its just the reverse in CSE. My advice, its too early to regret your decision of choosing Civil Engineering. It can help you earn even at the age of 70 years. That's not the case in any other areas.

1. There are many opportunities in the electronics sector
2. U can also move to it sector life SDE etc
3. There are many mnc companies (jp Morgan, kpmg, Goldman)that hire for non technical roles like analysts particularly from electronics or circuital branches
4. ECE grads can give gate move into PSU or prepare for ECE exam

I did bachelors in civil and worked with a Tier-1 contractor in Mumbai. My salary started with 3.5 lakhs and went upto 5 lakhs in the span of 3.5 years.
It was short lived until I moved to Australia. I made a pivot to mining and now my salary is way better and I have perfect work life balance.

I suggest you to go for circuit branch sis.... Don't join civil it has no scope or no value... I am saying it from my experience... don't hesitate go for CS/ECE... But never join core branch... Even IITians and NITians are struggling after civil engineering

But what I fear is what if I do not get placed in any company?.........One thing I don't like computer Sitting jobs like CS that why I want a field job where Real eng skills apply. If You are From Middle Class Family and Want to Do Job For Lifetime Then Its Okay to Pursue for It and If You Are Pursuing for Civil In Case for Your Own Business Then It Will Require So Much Contacts in Market or Field and Financial Support and have to Work 24×7 days Wheather as Job or Business And If You are Introvert of A Person Who dont want to or Won't Get Surrounded by More Peoples then It will Seem Little Difficult for Working on Field and If You Are Extrovert Then You will be Passionate for Weekends or Travelling so Here it Will Give some Problems because Only few Companies Gives you Weekoffs and Holidays .....Mostly Site Engineers & Supervisors Work 24×7 on Field & Without ImProper Management of Company you will have to Work Untill the Work Goes on Whether it Comes to Overnight. From Morning 9:00am to 12-1-2-3 AM Midnight
