      All three of you morons, plus the 19 that liked your post are equally stupid. Tarvish Lambo had a series of problems. Sam is just doing repairs. In the case of the R7 he got a sponsored exhaust for it Same with the R8. Plus the R7 came modified already he didn't do it. All his other cars are stock this takes less time to deal with. Lambos don't come turbocharged so unless you got a UR or some other well known kit you will have problems. Also whatever happen with the previous owner to break the automatic top on Tav's car is what is really keeping that project from being finished. I suggest all you unsub from his channel now because when he starts the manual trans conversion of the SL that will make the Lambo project look tame.

    Do a headlight conversion, the 996 headlights are one of the reasons why the 996 was a huge failure back when it came out, also change the dreaded IMS bearing, its a cheap fix.

    • @OMGWTFLOLSMH
      @OMGWTFLOLSMH 5 лет назад +16

      A headlight conversion is too expensive on a car with perfectly fine front fenders and headlights. If the IMS hasn't been done in 18 years and 100k+ miles, it's fine. It's a $4000 car.

      @Vladimir_Popik 5 лет назад +10

      You do know that the 996 is commonly known as the best selling 911 of all time right? Please fact check yourself, it’s only more recently that “Porsche Enthusiasts” criticize the kidney light look, and their criticism has nothing to do with why it’s so cheap. It’s the “cheapest” 911 to buy because it’s the most abundant one in the used car market. Quantity hurts demand, which hurts price.

    • @OlkjU287
      @OlkjU287 5 лет назад

      Vladimir Popik Might have sold well, doesn’t mean anybody wants it now. A similar 993 will command twice the money at least. The demands not there not because they sold well but because nobody wants them, they’d rather a 997 or 993. The only 996’s that sell well are not base models. The GT’s fetch top dollar in any 911 model. The 996 turbo is now fast becoming a classic.

We could install an F-1 engine to that flux capacitor & bingo we'd be on our way to 1950 to see the old commies in action! Wouldn't have to worry about coolant cus sonar ports could be installed in the headlight openings and the coolant leak would be fixed!

    Ok, from that start i can tell you a few things. You will need a new Y lead and starter motor very soon. Once the engine heats up the cable gets heat soaked and the start wont kick properly. On the 996, never push down on the hood from the emblem, they end up bending and the rubber seal behind retracts. Push down from in front of the symbol. The center is what they call the GT3 console mod. They remove that middle section where the cd holder and so forth would sit. This generally adds more leg room for tall people. I really love the 996's, with some work that would be an awesome car.

    I have a 99 and I love it. It looks like someone installed an aftermarket console delete kit. The 99 through 2001 did not come with a glovebox. The good news on your 2001 is that there is a reasonable chance it came with the earlier duel row IMS bearing, which is much more robust. One recommendation is to do an oil change and check the oil filter for particulates before you dump a lot of money in it. Engine rebuilds are about 20k give or take. Rennlist is a great resource for information on your 996 model 911.

  • @HWandW
    @HWandW 5 лет назад

    Congrats in a good buy! The fluctuating idle will probably cure itself once you have fixed the leak in the cooling system; topped off the coolant and bled the air out. Idle air control is dependent on proper coolant level. Coolant is the first thing to check in fixing idling problems. You can fix most plastics with sodium acrylate (super glue) and baking soda. You can fix aluminum parts many times with Muggy Weld. That knowledge itself could save you money on fixing the cooling system. You may not need to replace the radiator.

    i expect this has been mention several times already! But I guess it's a Canadian car as everything is in metric? so it's 103,000KM? about 65,000 miles?
    The console delete is a GT3 option and it's rare, if factory.
    Fan could also be a resistor failure. Test it first before throwing parts at it.
    DO NOT close the frunk / hood by pressing the badge! This is a myth! you will, over time, just bend the metal.
    What's with all the red markings / arrows? has the insurance gone through the car and marked out all the damage for you? Handy!
    If it's actually 2001 (not just MY) then it's the very last of the 3.4
    Don't change the IMS as it probably doesn't need it. Check the information from Hartech as they know what they are talking about, rather than "Some guy on the interweb"
    Get the O2 sensor readings (any OBD reader) to see why the idle is lumpy. There could be exhaust damage / leak causing it?
    Don't skimp.. a manual, blue 996.1 without a brown interior is a less common model. Would be worth more to the right buyer, but repairs will have to be done properly.
    awaits the flames..... :-D

    Before you spend any cash on it, check to see if the join between engine and gearbox is wet. There is a common issue with the IMS bearing and the rear main seal. The 996 bearing is an external bearing so not that hard to do once the box is off and the RMS is also easy but if the bearing has not been done in a while and the oil changes have not been done ahead of time, the bearing failure gives no warning and is a full engine rebuild. Also check for bore score. Cylinder 6 is the usual culprit as it is furthest from the water pump.

The auctions supply it at the security/exit gate(s). A gentle rub gets off all the window “chalk” (more like wax). Tranny - no idea
    Air ride - bad ride hight senor, causes it to default to normal. Fairly common issue.
