  • 2005 Toyota Corolla ce 1.8l Transmission mount replacement. This owner complained of bad vibration felt at idle in the cabin. The vibration was only felt at idle in the P, N or D position. When the vehicle was accelerating the vibration was not present. To diagnose this vehicle I just did a visual inspection and thought I saw the mount cracked, although I was unsure due the location and not being able to see the mount without taking out the battery and air filter box.
I hope this video helped you!

Took my corolla to the dealership to diagnose a check engine light for a transmission sensor and ofcourse they wrote a large list of things it needs and one of them was they recommended replacing ALL motor mounts lol. Keep in mind that i already knew this but i knew i only needed to replace the transmission mount. Stealership at work trying to take my money when i only needed one sensor and one mount everything else isn't as important since it's just my beater car, they even tried to get me into buying a new car.

Great video, thanks for posting! I have a 2013 Corolla L with a 5-speed manual trans which I recently replaced wheel bearings and cv shafts. (..I realize that 2013 isn't that old but it commutes 130 miles a day so it's right at 170K on the clock..) Since I changed the bearings and shafts I have picked up a slight rumble (..not a tire shake, best description I can come up with is a slight rumble..) at 3200rpm under load - like climbing a hill at 75mph in 5th gear. (..rumble moves to 60mph in 4th, 44mph in 3rd, etc, all centered around 3200rpm..) I have checked the run-out on the hubs and tried 3 different sets of cv axles but the problem persists. After watching your video I checked the rear, front and passenger motor mounts and they all look good, but as I'm sure you know, the driver side tranny mount requires a little more effort to even be able to see it, so it will have to wait until morning. (..it's dark outside and I can't see anything..) Any other ideas on where to look? I spend between 2 and 3 hours a day at 75mph in 5th gear at 3200rpm. The rumble is driving me nuts. Thanks for any thoughts & Best Wishes from NM.

I would personally double check the installation of the components you just replaced.
Slight vibrations can be difficult to track down. It could be related to several things such as , tires, alignment, mounts and bushings.

@@wickedchicksmobileautodies8819 Thanks for the reply! This morning I took the air box off and inspected the transmission mount on the left side of the car. The bushing has several cracks, but it's not worn all the way through. Pretty sure those cracks would be just enough to cause the slight vibration that's been driving me nuts for the last month. Thanks again for the video! That's what got me to realize I hadn't checked that mount. If you want to send an email address I will send a photo of the bad mount.

@@bnerri The problem turned out to be the drive axles. OEM replacements were outrageously expensive and everything aftermarket was absolute junk. I would up getting rid of the car.

@@it4dps Hey, I know I am late, but I was just scrolling down the comments section and found this. I also had the same problem as you a few years back and ended up going on a goose chase like you (2010 Corolla here with the 5 speed manual transmission). I replaced the driver's side first (no problems) then the passenger's side cv axle (then I started having vibrations at certain RPM in every gear once I passed that mark around 3200 to 3600 ish RPM). Turned out to be the passenger side cv axle with the vibration problem. Because the passenger side is the longer end they tend to produce vibrations at a certain RPM speed. I ended up using a different aftermarket axle which fixed most of the vibrations (better than the other brand I have tried) and that was OK for me. This problem is common on aftermarket axles that don't have an intermediate shaft with the carrier bearing on them. I first used SurTrack by Trakmotive axles twice with no luck and then switched to Cardone Select Axles (the new ones not the remanufactured ones). Depending on your area and parts availability there will be different brands available. I hear that NAPA brand axles seem to work OK as well, but haven't personally used them. The OEMs usually have a rubber damper on them and normally have no issues and yes very expensive. I just suspect the manufacturer's have problems balancing and manufacturing the longer axles hence why they have so many problems with them.

Great video, I am doing an overhaul of the whole engine because of a blown head gasket , have the exact same Chinese set from Amazon, ours is a Toyota Corolla 2004 with 122000 miles I do not think the engine mounts are bad but since everything except the transmission is out of the way I thought it would be a good thing to replace all of them, for $65.00 it is hard to beat. No telling how long the original mounts are going to last, maybe they could stand another 100000 miles but i will not throw them away, unless they are cracked, I can see spider webs like tiny cracks but not completely cracked. Thanks for the video.

I have not heard any complaints yet about this mount. Hopefully they Last awhile. This corolla has over 220,000, so the owner won't have it much longer and didn't see the need to purchase the mounts from the dealer.

    • @fireyourrocketts
      @fireyourrocketts 5 лет назад +1

Wickedchicksmobile auto & diesel oh the dealer prices for the mounts are insane just like every thing they sell. I tried to stay OEM where I can or better, like in the engine, I bought the best parts I could find. I just replaced the very same mount like in your video, got the torques at 44 for 3 screws but the one down close to the firewall there was ni way to use the torque wrench there, did my best. Tomorrow I will get the others replaced, the passenger side is last for when the engine goes in.

    • @wickedchicksmobileautodies8819

That could definitely be the mount.
If you have one person sitting in the vehicle with their foot on the brake and gear in D or R, and they snap the throttle while the other person watches for the rocking movement of the engine.
I'm sure you can find a video on RUclips that will show exactly what I'm talking about.
I may have another video in a couple of weeks that show the removal and replacement of the rear mount on this Corolla.

Changed the motor mounts and the transmission mount and now the vibrations stopped but now it vibrates when only in reverse gear and briefly when I apply the brake to stop. Any ideas??

Yes. It took away a noticeable vibration.
A rough running engine would cause drivability concerns not so much a bad vibration.

The bolt that you used a wrench for instead of the ratchet at around 5:58 is stripping for me and I can't get a socket in there, access is being blocked by the transmission mount bracket that fastens the transmission to the mount itself. How should I proceed, the mount is completely destroyed I really need to change it
