Why didn’t they just give Taiki’s two friends Xros Loaders at the beginning? They get them at the end and get partner digimon too, so why didn’t they just do it in the beginning to make them actually useful, non-deadweight characters?
Well actually Jeremy(The boy with the green shirt) was useful because he actually had a sword made of pickmon that he would use to fight other digimon and he even took up the role of the leader one episode so he was a bit more useful but the girl was useless(I think)
To be perfectly honest I loved this series despite it’s flaws, though I perfectly understand why it’s not well liked by the community. A lot of people can agree with me here but to watch and enjoy to the fullest would be to see the subbed versions. Especially for the soundtrack, that was replaced in the English version, We are Xros Heart, The Guardian, X5’s themes were a few examples of really good music for the franchise.
Weirdly enough I enjoy this series more than I thought I would. Tamers was my most favorite of the series. As a kid never really got into the series but tamers grabbed my attention cause guilmon was freaking epic. After that lost interest again. Kinda got curious with frontier and enjoyed a bit of it. I enjoyed the beginning of data squad/savers at the beginning (English dub) but it got boring fast for me. Xwars was actually enjoy that I stuck with watching it every week when it released.
I'll admit this show has its flaws but I still enjoyed it. Unlike most people I'm willing to overlook most flaws so I can actually enjoy what I'm watching. Or I use said flaws to make jokes instead of complain.
Aiman Imran digimon hunter was trash they should have kept it with the first two season. Taigeru was worst than Davis no character development whatsoever
What I hated about it was how LAZY the fusions were. The whole point of fusion was to become stronger, and form something new and or like they are something combined. They are literally all just Shoutmon but bigger with more leg or more armor and a few little details added on. He doesnt have anything special about unlike Omnimon or Imperialdramon
That’s the dub’s fault, in the original the “fusing” part is called “digi xross” it’s a different kind of fusion where the digimon doesn’t digivolve when fusing, it’s like they just combine powers, where in the other series digimon fusing would allow them to unlock a new level of power digivolving into a higher level digimon like above mega level like omnimon. That’s why the “digixross” digimon doesn’t have ranks like ultimate or mega. It’s weird
Xros vs fusion is meant to be that Xros is basically the other digimon only Armor around the digimon to make itself stronger, its like to give a simple example legos, You have 1 block and all your doing with xros is adding more blocks to that block to make it bigger and more stronger, especially with this you get the previous digimons attacks and features they would have, its not fusion where actually you fuse two or more digimon and get a whole new digimon. all Xros is is not evolving just a increase in strength and giving that digimon features and moves the digimon before had (Example later on Shoutmon meets a Beelzemon and he gets black wings in this Xros) Tbh Xros is how i say a quicker fusion but less powerful as for fusion you need a bond etc vs Xros where you don't really need that you just kinda need them to be your digimon.
Stil bad as it's based too heavily on Shoutmon, not the many other Digimon they partnered with. They added last minute combinations in the final fight for that reason, showcasing how OP Wisemon and Knightmon were
I enjoyed Xros Wars. For me the second...series? It was kinda broken up into 3 for some reason. But the 2nd one about the Death Generals was really great. The pacing was nearly perfect. By far the best part of it.
I personally really loved Xros Wars. It is one of my favourite seasons for a few reasons, one being the music in the original for example, but I also really loved Taiki/Mikey's character. Others may hate him or find him boring, but he reminded me of Hikari/Kari who I looked up to as a kid. The previous leaders were blockheads, stubborn, lacked leadership skills, etc, but now we had a true leader who was not only brave and intelligent, but also really caring and selfless. He was willing to sacrifice himself for others without hesitation, he believed in others when no one else did, and he always tried to stay positive despite everyone's negative spirits. Of course his character is unrealistic in a sense, but it is a TV show after all, though, I am sure there are people like him. People who are so giving, people who can't say no when others ask, and it can be draining, but I love his outlook and reasoning on it. It would suck to turn away someone who asked you for help, just for something to later happen to them. He doesn't want to feel that guilt knowing he could have done something when he had the chance. Because of his personality, his team grew, and he was able to unite the other kids and defeat the enemy, so I think it's really sweet. ^_^
@@shoutmondx8740 Maybe not a god, but it's my favourite season besides Frontier. Of course Adventure is amazing and nostalgic, but there's so much charm in those two. What did you like about the season? 😄
How I feel about fusion evolutions (mostly on Shoutmon's fusions) 7 years ago:- this is the most awesome thing evaaaaaap Nowadays:- this is not a digimon. Its a fcking *MEGAZORD*
Well, Super Sentai and Digimon are two Bandai + Toei franchises whose English localisations were owned by Saban, Disney, and Hasbro at the same times, although I'm not 100% sure if Hasbro really can localise Digimon now.
16:18 - "Even though it makes no sense canonically" - Because this was a fanservice season. Waaaay back when Tamers first aired, fans noticed a pattern and came up with a crazy prediction - which as of Digimon Hunters, mostly came true. Ryu in Tamers is actually from the Adventure universe. He was the protagonist of at least one Wonderswan game, and at the end of one of the endings, decided to not go back to his own universe, choosing to go to a different one. He's also shown as one of the kids watching the Diaboromon battle over the internet in the movie. That was the first proof that the universes were connected. Thanks to the card game and other media, we knew how many Royal Knights existed in the Digimon universe, and as of Tamers the attentive fans realized a pattern: Since only a couple new Royal Knights appeared in each series, somewhere around the 6-8th season all 12 (Maybe 13 if the founder counted) would have shown up. This led to the fan theory that upon all of them being revealed in the anime, there would be some big cross-universe event where every storyline got tied into one. It's just unfortunate that Hunters handled it so badly.
Appmon basically took the fusion element and fixed it, they actually combine and make actual new monsters based on both monsters instead of uncreatively slapping random parts from other digimon onto shoutmon's body and call it a fusion, appmon is a lot more creative in that regard.
Appmon is a really good spin-off if you ask me, i unironically cried in some scenes, the story is consistent and the appmons had a really cool design, but i still can't figure out if Gatchmon is a mammal or a reptile
honestly, even though xros wars is a huge hit or miss since it changed soo much stuff about how digimon works, i actually enjoyed it, and the fact that this is the first digimon anime that actually had animation quality that wasnt always flat and boring like it was made with a 2dollar budget like the previous ones, made atleast more fun to look at
i liked xros wars i didn't like boys who jump threw time baalmon was best part for me atleast for good reason ''coughtamersnestolgia'' and i still loved the idea of islands of lands in sky and stuff and the easier travel so much good but like frontier there was good and bad frontier i didn't like last 20-25 eps cause it went from team work to needing only two people to do everything and xross wars shelves some of the more fun characters too fast
The animation was exactly what put me off. All the previous seasons had this beautiful, elegant style that made it look almost like a painting, especially for the world and the backgrounds but also leaking into the character and Digimon designs. It's what set it apart from many other modern ugly shows. But then Xros Wars came around and suddenly that charme was lost and instead Digimon now also looked like someone had a giant pot of butter, a polishing rag and way too much time at their hands to smear said butter on everything. So suddenly, everything looks hyper stylized and shining like a sweaty face in the spotlight who forgot to apply face powder. I could have maybe put up with the bad characters and the new concepts I didn't like story-wise, but ON TOP of that horrible new look? Nope.
They changed Yuu's backstory so his goldfish died instead of his grandma....It's like the people who dubbed Digimon Fusion genuinely hate the franchise and wanted it to die.
Don't forget that Dub Taiki says that dub Akari is useful for making sandwiches as a reason for her to stay rather than supporting the team and the infamous "you don't know Japanese!" moment.
“Digimon fusion is what it’s widely known as” Really? Because I’ve never even heard of “Digimon Fusion” a whole year after this came out. I’ve heard of Xros Wars tho...
Literally everyone I know has called it Xros Wars for years and years now. Billiam is the only person I have ever seen call it Fusion. He's probably just going with the English version because he has an easier time pronoucing English names.
Hunters' flaws were inoffensive? Bro. 23 episodes of waiting for something to progress and then 2 episodes of pants-on-head nonsense to end the series with hype. Hunters made me mad at how badly they wasted the excitement I'd had from the second season of Xros Wars.
You guys can argue about Hunters. All I care about is the dub that might be coming... Oh wait, it's not coming? Okay, time to build pixel art of digimon in minecraft and burn it.
I personally enjoyed appli mon. The concept was more about the fact that everything can be done through your phone with an app, and the digimon franchise decided to "digivolve" it's concept to the more modern moment (thus the name). Both theme songs were quite decent, the characters do have a great development throughout the series and the villain actually had a person that is more relatable to our current lifestyle.
Not to mention it utilized the digital / technological aspect the most out of all Digimon anime series. The technology is more involved than just "Here are the world made of data - forest, mountains, seas, etc are made of data even though they look just like normal world's ones. The creatures are also made of data as well." For a series that is based on technology, the tech aspect surprisingly (and ironically) just played minimal role in Digimon anime series until Appmon where it was more involved.
Applimon was actually pretty good and had a unique plot with an ending I did not expect. It seemed quite more popular than Xros Wars I believe. It was also the first time a digimon property aired in TV Tokyo I think, which probably helped since a lot of the bigtime Japanese cartoons aired there
Wait, Applimon did well? Huh. I couldn’t make it through 5 episodes, the Digimon all felt too gimmicky. Like, Digimon have always had overlap in their designs and evolutions, and the evolution methods might have gotten gimmicky, but the Digimon themselves never served one specific purpose the way they seem to in Applimon.
@@AshtonMonitor Yeah, I'm also surprised that Appmon is better liked than Xros Wars. Xros Wars, while not as deep as the older seasons and has the tendency to be 'childish', I was still entertained by it (at least the first 2 arcs, we don't talk about Hunters). Appmon was boring and way too childish. It was the only Digimon season that I was very close to abandoning, which is surprising to me because there are other seasons that I disliked way more than Appmon.
I hate to be that guy, but the Japanese Digimon Xros Wars was way better than the American Digimon Fusion. I watched fan subs of Xros Wars each week as a new episode came out and it was amazing. There were flaws but they weren't as blatant as they were in the dub. I watched half of the dub before I gave up, it felt so phoned in and watered down. Even the emotion that was conjured by custom music in the original had been stripped away entirely!
Why you should hate yourself? Fusion is literally the worst dubbed Digimon series, with horrible alteration of story, dialogues and names (also that dumb censorship). I have a headache when someone actually says they like Fusion more than original Xros Wars.
13:54 Actually I found out about digimon fusion when looking up weregarurumon and wargreymon just to live in the nostalgia for a bit and continued just typing in random names for digimons like... idk stuff like trashmon, bluemon, and I just so happened to type shoutmon and was amazed that it was an actual digimon and that there was a whole new season I had never heard of
ADV: Kids save the world 02: Kids save the world. . . Again Tamers: Kids win against crippling depression, just to suffer by losing their digital friends Frontier: Kids defeat the devil himself Savers: Angst Teen kills GOD Xros wars: Kids play a mega complex chess game against an Edgelord and win with the power of friendship
The manga acts as a more complete product, I recommend reading that. All the characters feel more involved and more fun. It also gives the actual backstory for our MC.
Plus it includes lore from other seasons and media as well as give us super evolution for other digimon partners like Dorulumon, Ballistamon, Sparrowmon, and Starmon. Also as a bonus, Digimon gijinkas.
the anime makes ppl hated Bagramon without reasons coz he's pure evil. The manga instead makes people sympathized towards Bagramon coz he had a tragic and understandable background.
I enjoyed Xros Wars. It's so simple, doesn't need thinking, plenty of dumb slap-stick comedy (which I love) - I had a good time with it. Also, Apollomon Whispered has Doflamingos voice. That really was a surprising yet positive highlight to me!
I love how you did admit that maybe it was nostalgia that made the earlier Digimon series seem less childlike. And to be fair, for a kid, Mikey would look quite cool. And frankly, I think it should be noted that a large part of the reason for WHY lots of Digimon games failed... was because they SUCK AT MARKETING... I mean, seriously, Pokemon, Dragon Ball Super and so many franchises actually make sure people know they are coming out. I do remember that Digimon did announce a game and it got a lot of views... but then MONTHS go by and it just gets forgotten. Hell, even Tri got the same marketing disasters. People can't buy games if you don't tell them about it, and you shouldn't expect a person to remember an announcement from MONTHS ago... That said, my favorite Digimon was actually Digimon Savers (or Data Squad). The characters were awesome and fun, though I do wish they just did more. It was cool, but it was also a HUGE waste of potential.
I was actually relieved that the digimon story series game(like cyber sleuth,re digitized, next order) are doing pretty well, and those game are aimed at adult.
...actually I watched liek 1 clip of Adventure 01 in japanese and was like "wow, I can't handle this. They just all said 'it's shining!' over and over for a whole minute or so..." at least that's what I think I remember I think that watching the dub made it probably very different... I rewatched an ep of Adventure 02 after I had grown up and realized just how rapid fire they talked in it, probably loading up extra dialogue or something. I know that DBZ had a ton of extra dialogue added into it that was not in the original I'm not about to claim one is better than the other, but I think that the time I attempted to watch Xros Wars, it was sub only and I did indeed feel like it was "so childish I could only last 5 minutes" (probably not a fair assessment considering I watched 5 whole minutes) I am watching Ghost Game right now and am almost up to date in japanese, and it also Definitely feels like a childrens show to me, but with added "almost very good horror elements for a few minutes before it goes back to being a kids show" ......the logic in the show is just hella ALL OVER THE PLACE but I still enjoy it. Half the fun comes from lampshading it, and oh my god if I don't want a hug from Angoramon. Best boy. oh my god yeah also I played Digimon Dawn or whatever, and boy was it addicting. Literally only knew Digimon had videogames from... being a digimon fan and being on the internet looking for fan content and on wikis, idk. Why are they so trash at marketing lol. Also I want Digimon Survive already XD ...also man, yeah I need to continue Data Squad, I was pretty into it for a bit but I think what happened was I couldn't find any more episodes online way back years ago.
@@tsunfish9443 Something I had noticed in old dubs (I first took note of it in Yu-Gi-Oh) is that they added in so much extra dialogue in any scene where they could get away with it. I assume they figured kids would get bored with calm moments, or scene establishing shots, so they threw in more people talking to keep attention.
@@WolforNuva wow, even though I also listed DBZ as an example, I didn't realize this was a thing across the board for old dubs... Yeah, adults sure think a lot of things for how to entertain kids, so that sounds really plausible
I enjoyed Xros Wars. I didn’t enjoy Fusion. The English adaptation of this show butchered what the Japanese version actually was. They took out well timed jokes in favor for one-liners that were relevant to today’s kids but ultimately not funny (like a line said by Taiki/Mikey’s guy friend who I can’t remember the name of about other kids in the digital world having phones that they could play games on). For the first two seasons of Xros Wars, the show was good. Nowhere near the level that previous seasons of Digimon were, but still enjoyable. Young Hunters, though, was an abomination and we should just forget that exists. Only redeeming factor of that season was the final battle bringing all the Digimon leads from past seasons into one final battle. That was a nice treat for old fans.
Ehh... That "nice treat" was a missed opportunity for dimension-hopping so the new protagonists could get strong enough to win. There was even a perfect "we're pinned down" moment for them to retreat, since the digimon that did the dimension-hopping was with them. Maybe it was good they didn't do it though. They dropped a lot of stuff they could have done better, so who knows how badly the dimension-hopping would have been done. For example the "leapt through time" reference in the title had me for a while convinced that the DigiQuartz was actually the future, where the digital and real worlds had somehow gotten fused.
Hunters only existed because the new saint seiya was delayed and Toei was too stubborn to let go of their TV slot on TV tokyo, so they rushed a new batch of digimon episodes so thy could keep the slot
5:38 You should re-watch Frontier, you think he's the "I'm going my own path" kinda dude, but it's actually only for the first few episodes, he becomes a better Matt then Matt, actually caring about the group and willingly sacrificing for Takuya after Takuya's super safe plan to beat Duskmon (Kochi tells him before that it won't work and is way to dangerous for everyone) fails. Takuya literally accepts death and Kochi jumps in without any hesitation
Red Alpha Nah. Zexal killed the fan base for a short time, and by short I mean a good ass 3 years ☠️ Vrains is actually really good right now, and might be the best Yugioh Series if it ends strongly and doesn’t pull a Arc-V. ( meaning having amazing high potential and dropping to shit .)
I remember watching Xros Wars weekly and posting in a forum about it. Wasn't the best, but I still had fun with the series as a whole. Though Xros Hunters, the series that came after, was pretty bad. While Xros Wars was on the verge of being canceled, Xros Hunters just got its time slot immediately taken away, which meant they had to rush the ending. Also, while the collecting aspect seemed cool, there wasn't much done with it, and Tagiru probably only uses three or so of his extramons. The ending even just kind of shoves the main character role to him, when he admits he did nothing to earn it. The fact that it doesn't have its own review and is just taped onto the end of this one shows that it's just "there".
Goose Dawson hunters in my opinion I watch all digimon and the last episode is the best spoilers all digimon season main characters came back in one episode
Xros Wars 1st Arc:Slow & rather boring with a few exceptions (Shoutmon x4 vs Neptunemon for example) until they get to the SandZone. Here we're introduced to Sparrowmon (Shiny Latias) just before Beelzemon joins the Fusion Fighters. Then the 2nd half of the 1st Arc is rather low quality. The 2nd Arc where they fight the 7 Generals though was great & about what you would expect a Digimon series to be like. Young Hunters wasn't dubbed for good reason. Xros Wars/Fusion is clearly the worst Digimon series, although it had some awesome parts here & there. Also I thought Nene was going for Mysterious in 1st Arc, then Beautiful in 2nd Arc, as she isn't mysterious anymore by the point they decided to make her attractive.
Appmon is totally not a spin-off, it literally has Digimon in it, and it hits the Digimon theming perfectly, it also has dark tones that really work and you can tell ghost game definitely took inspection from it
oh digi-fusion exist. look like ma boy paildramon. silphymon and all of gen-3's mega form. the issue isn't xros war has fusion, its the fact they fucked it up. digimon isn't fucken transformer, if you are going to do fusion. give us actual fucken digifusions. as in give us something new and exciting, and not just, you put shoutmon on top of _____mon, and here you have it, fusion.
People like before xros wars "we want something new" but after xros wars "I hate new things" I mean come on if it looks like transformers than what's wrong, we have all those old concept of digimon evolving into rookie to mega or SU in previous season and xros wars included something new and people hate it because they just wanted to see power levels. I mean digimon is literally a data with life form and data can be mixed with other data so digi xros/fusion is nothing surprising
Applimon is actually really good! I wasn't sure at first since I.... didn't enjoy Xros Wars a lot, but Applimon felt like a different take on Digimon that followed the same spirit. It was original, the main characters were good, and it was very fun. Not every episode was amazing but it had some cool twists and cool moments
Appmon have some of the most beloved characters. They sometimes might like in Eri or Tora/Astra's case, but they make you feel empathy towards them in terms of their character development.
The main characters are Kazuki, Haru, Yujinn, Ai, Torajiro and Kumiko And their partner digimon and appmon are Pheasantmon(a digimon Kazuki drew when he was a kid when his phone turned on by bootmon the drawings and the digimon universe are now turned into an app, and created the digimon world also brought him to life), Gatchmon(who has longer horns on his helmet and a yellow cape), Agumon, Offmon, Gabumon(Yujinn's digimon partner who is gentle for offmon and the others), Musimon, tentomon(Torajiro's partner digimon and also Torajiro's number 1 fan), Wizardmon(he was once a candlemon an appmon who was trained by mirrormon but bullied by other appmon, he later leaves mirrormon's dojo and set off on a lonely journey, when he discovers the digimon world he rested there until he later digivolved into wizardmon, when he was exploring he saw Ai Kashiki who was one of the victims of the human application project, he saw and he thinks she's going to be shredded, so he saved her from becoming an appmon chip, when she's back to the real world she has no memory of him, until now when she sees him again, Wizardmon became her partner), and Bushbabymon(Kumiko's digimon who has a little stink problem)
Back when I was a kid it was always fun watching digimon but now that I'm older I realized how good the japanese music was. Like I watched every season up to the end of digimon fusion but all of it was in dub. But once I checked out the subbed versions I realized how freaking good the songs were. While I was listening to one guy say "Digimon digital monsters" for who knows how many episodes the people who watched the subbed version got to listen to butterfly.
Same thing with me. I'm from Brazil and our dub ruined the Digimon Adventure's opening, worse they had the presenter from the "Cartoon Hour" sing it and I always hated when they put a presenter that wasted time where one more cartoon could be aired.
It doesn't help that the franchise has _loads_ of songs to choose from. Season 3 alone has like 50 songs including character songs and op/ed. All of them are good too.
I liked the manga better. It made villains like Lilithmon an actual threat who actually wasnt afraid to get her hands dirty and fight. In the anime she was literally forgettable and all I can remember is how much she reminded me of team rocket but instead of being likable shes just horrible in every sense. It's my least favorite season. But I did enjoy its manga adaptation marginally more then the anime
Plus it gave Lord Bagramon a backstory, which made him very sympathetic than the anime incarnation, in which there was reason for his ambitions over his plan.
The one thing I liked best in the manga is how Mikey/Taiki is given a reason for how he is due to feeling like his actions causing a friend, Tatsuya, to be hurt just because he thinks it's because of one of his dreams and just felt he didn't deserve a dream.
"Digimon doesn't have to reinvent itself" But Digimon Tamers, the season you and I know to be the best, reinvented not just Digimon, but the whole 'mon genre, brutally deconstructing it even. I'm not the biggest fan of Digimon Savers, but I still appreciate it tried to do something different. The reason I stuck with that season but not Xros Wars was because Xros Wars didn't reinvent itself, period. I hate cliches and repetitive formula, so a rehashed storyline is a big turn-off for me.
Tamers actually was the only of the 2 anime products who get close to the lore and use some of the RL elements from all the products (including V-Pets , cards and even the manga). The other is X Evolution who was the one WHO SAVE the franchise. Also the guy here seems to didn't even look up all the info since Digimon AMOST died way back as a franchise with Frontier instead.
@@SenseiRaisen That was actually the planned ending for Digimon until fans pressured them to make a sequel, which was Savers/Data Squad. THAT'S where Digimon nearly died worldwide. Only a few games were released during the gap between Savers and Xros Wars. Nothing else.
@@GaomonAndLucario yeah! i knew that too , amost forgot to mentioned who X Evolution was ment to be that "the ending" of Digimon as a franchise. Yeah! it was considerated a little dead until recently.
@@GaomonAndLucario If it was dead after Savers was released, Xros Wars wouldn't have been made, neither would that MMO based on Savers' characters (can't remember the name). Anyway, why does it even matter? At least Savers tried. There was effort put into shaking things up with a different setting, not cash-in on a decade old franchise with some lazy rehash.
“It’s just clean, light-hearted fun” is the perfect description for Hunters and it’s why I enjoy the season so much. The writing’s not great and there’s very little character development (except for the conclusion to Yuu’s character arc which admittedly did make me pretty emotional) but it was bright and fun and I was perfectly okay with that, especially since it was a short season. As for Xros Wars, I liked it a lot but I have to admit it does have issues and you pretty much nailed them. I was nervous about Appmon but it honestly became my favorite Digimon series, I highly recommend giving it a chance at least! Either way, I’ve really enjoyed these Digimon reviews
Its really amazing how Pokémon can keep releasing the same game/anime with the first 151 Pokémon and does fine but Digimon tries to do something different and no one cares.
That's becuase Pokemon does little changes in each game/anime while Digimon makes completely different changes. It's a similar situatiion with Mario keep things similar while Sonic struggles despite changing it up in each game.
I actually liked Applimon for what it was It has some familiarity to digimon but uses the apps to try something new. Some characters were a bit annoying at first but i really grew to like them and their quirks (even Cho noneru norenai oddly enough). They manage to put kid moments along with some more serious moments pretty well
It's what got me into the series as a kid, so I have deep nostalgia for it. Though because of the deep decline it had in Europe briefly afterward, it's more memories of a show I'd just stumble across if I was lucky
It's always so weird to me that Xros Wars was so unpopular. I can understand the dub wasn't great, but I watched only the sub, and it's my favorite Digimon series! The story and characters were great, to me at least, and the music in particular is some of my favorite anime music. Even the background music, not just the songs and stuff, it's just fantastic! I suggest giving it a listen, folks have playlists of the whole soundtrack here on RUclips. The idea of Xros Wars was that Bagramon was bringing child prodigies to the Digital World, trying to get one that would allow him to unlock certain powers, and that was Nene's brother. But that's also why Kiriha and Nene were brought there, though Nene mostly went along with it to rescue her brother. Taiki is also a child prodigy. He's not just really good at sports, he's good at everything, like the others. They show off the sports, but mention other things in passing, and he and the others are meant to be generals of various digimon armies trying to conquer and unite the world. Of course, Taiki does this primarily by making friends with the various digimon and helping them defend themselves against the other armies that are just trying to subjugate them. The rivalry between Taiki and Yuu as two genius tacticians was a pretty central idea, and Kiriha was also meant to be a rival in there. All of them fighting eachother was also meant to hone their skills and power, for Bagramon's plan. With so few human characters, there was also a lot of emphasis put on the digimon and their relationships, so that was pretty interesting. I was surprised you didn't mention Cutemon even once! Pardon the spoiler for anyone reading who hasn't watched it yet, but their big reveal "I'M A BOY!" was really impactful for me. All through the series, folks were treating them like a kid and using either gender-neutral or female descriptors, but it was really impacting their pride. They're also as important as any of the human characters at the very least, since they're outside of the Xrosloader most of the time, hanging out with Dorulumon. I'm really curious why it was so unpopular in Japan. Do you happen to know? I might guess that making all the main characters child prodigies would make them hard to relate to, but I'm not sure if it was that or something else. Like I said, I loved it! It was my favorite by far, even though I was well into adulthood when I watched it. It's hard to see what folks wouldn't like about it, from my perspective, and your coverage mostly seems to show the flaws in the dub, even though you also watched the sub and said they had many of the same flaws. I just don't get it? Anyways thanks for reading my super long RUclips comment. As one final note, you mentioned how 'attractive' many of the female type digimon look. Maybe you're just straight and didn't notice, but the male digimon are also super hot. The main designer for Digimon is Gay with a capital G. It's a big part of their identity and culture, and they like thick muscley guys in dramatic military inspired outfits. Also belts! He really likes belts. I'm actually impressed he's able to make hot lady digimon at the same time. Getting both sides covered is really nice.
I hope we would have Mervamon in the digimon games one day. I know certain group of people don't want her because of her "appeal", but I look past that (Like I wish most people would on most things).
I watched Xros Wars as it was airing and I remember loving the Seven Generals arc the most mainly because Taiki, Kiriha and NeNe were the main characters and the storyline was a lot more consistent. Hunters however I couldn’t get behind, Digimon has always had an overarching story and Hunters just goes NOWHERE until the last 2 episodes because their time slot got pulled and they had to rush to finish it. I also saw concepts for where the series was gonna go if it had continued with one storyline being that Tagiru wasn’t human and he had been created by Quartzmon to understand the relationship between Humans and Digimon for Quartzmon to figure out a way to utilise that power or something, I saw that somewhere right after it ended but haven’t been able to find it since then. If it was honestly where it was going then Hunters could have been saved because the rival hunters and everything were just so pointless. But yeah Xros Wars I liked, Hunters I did not. You should give Applimon a try, I’m watching it just now and I’m really liking it because of how different it is, it feels more original and funnily enough concepts from Hunters are present, a parallel dimension, appmon and captured and then used in later episodes etc.
I will be blunt it was the editing to Laylamon and Mervamon that made me change back to the sub even though I found some of the dubbed voices hilarious, Mostly Ballistamon, Starmon, Cutemon and some of the villain digimon like Tactimon, Neptunemon, IceDevimon and Matadormon
Saban Brands was like the new 4Kids Entertainment for torturing anime like Magical Pretty Cure into Glitter Force and Digimon Xros Wars into Digimon Fusion and Super Sentai seasons like Shinkenger into Power Rangers Samurai, Goseiger into Power Rangers Megaforce and Gokaiger into Super Megaforce.
Leap Through Time was not Xros Wars. It was a bastardisation of it that didn't even respect it's own characters. [EG: Nene does anything to save Yuu. Now she can't be asked to help Yuu even when he's in depression because **she's a model!**]
I'll be real, I have no issue with kids dubs for younger anime. I loved the original Digimon Xros Wars, it's one of my favorite seasons unironically. I whole heartedly blame the dub for a majority of the hate Xros Wars receives. And it has nothing to do with me being older, as I loved the dub for Yokai Watch which is even newer than Xros Wars. I've found a lot of newer dubs for kids anime have been making them even MORE kiddy than the older kids dubs did. Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-Vs dub does the same thing, even more censorship than in older seasons except in Arc-Vs case even the voice acting was kind of ass. Newer kids dubs seem to be going waaaayyyy down hill for whatever reason.
I wholeheartedly agree that Xros Wars is better than Fusion. I mean there's inconsistent edits, cuts, and weird dub changes that really confused. Some of dub changes I hate are Dub Akari's line of not being Japanese, bad dub names like: Reapmon, Axeknightmon( I know DeadlyAxemon is one of his component Digimon, but Darkknightmon sounds cooler), Laylamon, Marusumon, Arukadhimon, Lord Bagra, Mikey, Omnishoutmon( should be Omegashoutmon because of the Omega symbol), and the digixros name change for digifusion.

Fusion will always have a special place in my heart. I remembered watching this show whenever I tuned into Disney XD, and when it left, I anxiously waited for it to come back.
This was the first Digimon season I watched, because it was on Netflix and the I went to watch the third part of this on internet. Now six years later I watched the entirety of Digimon Adventure in one month.
What do you think if the writers should have done right in Xros wars for me is to improve the story, character personality, character design, and get rid of dead weight characters that don't do much in the story.
@Jack Bat Season 3's strong point is in its adult characters who actually does _something important_ rather than letting children do the job. Don't know about the pokemon though. Do you even watch pokemon? I mean, the three Tamer kids do fight each other early on but that's it. If there's anything bad about it is the cards that is forgotten halfway through the series... and Ryo. I hate how he appears out of nowhere yet still is on the same level as the three kids with no explanation whatsoever. Just... no.
@@Antyla Jack Bat didn't mean Season 3 to be Tamers. Xros Wars with Taiki/Mikey was split into two seasons, and "Season 3" would be the Young Hunters /Tagiru part.
the thing about dubs vers subs is nowadays subs is an absolute- for fidelity sake. however due to how they changed the product in the 80s and 90s and leading into the 2000s I think you can realistically criticize the products as two completely different entities. Especially 4kids productions. as pokemon was really the only one they didnt heavily change the context for. *also imagine being the company that wasted such success by ruining good dubbing opportunities.*
@@wargreysama actually latias was originally the same pokemon as Blaziken, before they got unique designs. Latios was then designed as a doubles counterpart to latias
The reason Fusion's Digimon look like they were designed to be toys first has a very simple explanation. They were. It was the first time they really wanted to make it a toyline with supporting fiction first, because the fusion element had to work both in-universe and as a play pattern. The only other time they designed the toys before the animation models was the Warp Digivolving Agumon and Gabumon figures. For exactly the same reason, even - it had to work as a toy first, or the toys would either be too inaccurate or too complex for the price point.
i think the big bad thing about digimon as a whole is how they ALWAYS try to reinvent the wheel, instead of going with what they already have (not to say that ALL of them were bad, but still): the weird cards they pushed through their digivices, them suddenly turning into digimon themselves, the need to punch the digimon was awkward, the fusion with their partners and then the fusion with about every digimon along their way. but this is not only a problem with the tv series; they had this exact same problem in my opinion with their games. yes, there is a whole franchise called Digimon World - but the first one is nothing like the second, the third or any other sequel - in fact none of them are a sequel to the ones below it. instead sometime later there was a psp game that wasn't called digimon world anymore, but was like the first one and after that another one for the ps4 that had yet another name that was like these previous two. and even in these very similar games they added new things like all of a sudden you have two partner digimon which feel very awkward to control compared to the single digimon in OG digimon world - why don't you just roll with the original one, just add more partner digimon and a bigger city/story/skill tree to go along and call it a day...? the third digimon world was also great, why don't you make an own series for that? And as for card games - pick out the card game system from that 3rd part, it was also great! there, I saved you the hassle for thinking about new games, just make a series out of these 3 things and PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T TRY TO REINVENT STUFF OR ADD UNNECESSARY THINGS, PLEASE! just look at pokemon, they didn't really do anything different in the main pokemon games/shows BUT THEY HAVE SUCCESS WITH THAT THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. but no, no they probably won't. they will add some stupid gimmick because they think it is necessary and f* it up more than they already did. it's just plain sad at this point.
i really think the card thing was a super good point, it make the kids really do something usefull more than just give the feelings to evolve, its the little plus to win the battle, something you can see, and it also shows that you need to know what you are doing, when takato makes the same combination of cards over and over just because it worked one time, and guilmon get really injured and bad, its shows how, he is just a kid, and really need training to help his partner, and not just, trust in his feelings, the point when they fuse with his digimonds well, its ok, they belive so much in each other and they fuse, i can work with that, but in the next season, they become digimons without any reason, yeah, fuck that, same with fusions between digimonds, highly unecesaria, and all fuisions were the same, just a big robot with diferent colors or addons, you win nothing with that, no feeling of OH A TOTALY NEW EVOLUTION, no, its just the same as always
I feel like Digimon has the same problem as the sonic the hedgehog series had, they try to reinvent themselves for their key audiences, except the difference with Digimon is that there’s is more wavy because they’ll make an anime for the older generation Digimon fans only to come out with something aimed towards little kids later (I.e: Digimon fusion) the only exception to this is the Digimon video games especially the newer generation one which always seemed like they aimed more towards teens and young adults (especially the cyber sleuth games, ignoring the plot similarities between cyber sleuth and persona 1 of course)
@@EnigmaRising yeah, their huge problem is the need to reinvent stuff, thats what Im saying too You dont keep your fanbase if you keep changing everything, you do the exact opposite. Over time, youll lose everybody that had an interest in your franchise just to gain a handful new interested people, not even close to the amount you lost. I am a very huge fan of digimon and I put up with really almost anything they did, even though I did not always like it, if its another new weird addition to the show or some weird move to change the games. I kept playing lots of their games even the online ones that are just a shameless cash grab but I dont think that anyone should be supporting what they are doing anymore. Its probably time to just move on and leave this whole thing behind.

A lot of people can agree with me here but to watch and enjoy to the fullest would be to see the subbed versions.

It’s weird
@@Lloyd991P Combining there powers together is still fusion

The past digimon protagonists were pulled from their own dimensions it was explained in the episode
SusurraSpellshield Ah yes, Ryo “Fuck Continuity and only there for Fanservice” Akiyama.
Appmon basically took the fusion element and fixed it, they actually combine and make actual new monsters based on both monsters instead of uncreatively slapping random parts from other digimon onto shoutmon's body and call it a fusion, appmon is a lot more creative in that regard.

Bro.
23 episodes of waiting for something to progress and then 2 episodes of pants-on-head nonsense to end the series with hype. Hunters made me mad at how badly they wasted the excitement I'd had from the second season of Xros Wars.
At least, the post-credit twist was a VERY nice development for a character I though was done with his arc ;7
Hunter was a mistake that should have never been made. It was the most boring season and the finally was a cringe fest.
Every time someone defends Hunters I get legitimately upset.
You guys can argue about Hunters. All I care about is the dub that might be coming...
Oh wait, it's not coming? Okay, time to build pixel art of digimon in minecraft and burn it.
Mystic Digi Or even better, manga Taiki.
Appmon had very interesting premise, sadly it was badly executed.
Honestly loved applimon, had a great arc, executed the missing brother aspect, and had a very satisfying final battle.
Applimon's finale was one of the best in the franchise. The emotional moments throughout the series reminded me of Tamers.

Not maybe, for sure.
...actually I watched liek 1 clip of Adventure 01 in japanese and was like "wow, I can't handle this. They just all said 'it's shining!' over and over for a whole minute or so..." at least that's what I think I remember
I think that watching the dub made it probably very different... I rewatched an ep of Adventure 02 after I had grown up and realized just how rapid fire they talked in it, probably loading up extra dialogue or something. I know that DBZ had a ton of extra dialogue added into it that was not in the original
I'm not about to claim one is better than the other, but I think that the time I attempted to watch Xros Wars, it was sub only and I did indeed feel like it was "so childish I could only last 5 minutes" (probably not a fair assessment considering I watched 5 whole minutes)
I am watching Ghost Game right now and am almost up to date in japanese, and it also Definitely feels like a childrens show to me, but with added "almost very good horror elements for a few minutes before it goes back to being a kids show"
......the logic in the show is just hella ALL OVER THE PLACE but I still enjoy it. Half the fun comes from lampshading it, and oh my god if I don't want a hug from Angoramon. Best boy.

The last battle was like shove taogiru aside we need to see masaru punch devilmons
It's hard to ruin a season that was already bad.
The dub also ruined Savers
5:38 You should re-watch Frontier, you think he's the "I'm going my own path" kinda dude, but it's actually only for the first few episodes, he becomes a better Matt then Matt, actually caring about the group and willingly sacrificing for Takuya after Takuya's super safe plan to beat Duskmon (Kochi tells him before that it won't work and is way to dangerous for everyone) fails.
Takuya literally accepts death and Kochi jumps in without any hesitation

Pretty much.

Great comment I liked Xros Wars as well not perfect but enjoyable which is what all Digimon needs to do

I refuse to watch adventure in English I've always hated that "hey Digimon" song I remember getting really bad subs of the show from limewire
Latin Spanish dub keeps winning
I liked the manga better.
It made villains like Lilithmon an actual threat who actually wasnt afraid to get her hands dirty and fight. In the anime she was literally forgettable and all I can remember is how much she reminded me of team rocket but instead of being likable shes just horrible in every sense.
It's my least favorite season. But I did enjoy its manga adaptation marginally more then the anime
Mr.Sloth Heck, Taiki doesn’t feel like a Gary Stu in the manga because he has a backstory.
Nene was also much more of a character in the manga. Hell she even references Tamers in a really cool way. I'm with you on the manga being way better.
Plus it gave Lord Bagramon a backstory, which made him very sympathetic than the anime incarnation, in which there was reason for his ambitions over his plan.
The manga gave Christopher and his digimon personality
The one thing I liked best in the manga is how Mikey/Taiki is given a reason for how he is due to feeling like his actions causing a friend, Tatsuya, to be hurt just because he thinks it's because of one of his dreams and just felt he didn't deserve a dream.

"Digimon doesn't have to reinvent itself"
But Digimon Tamers, the season you and I know to be the best, reinvented not just Digimon, but the whole 'mon genre, brutally deconstructing it even.
XROS Wars/Fusion was pretty much a ripoff of Sentai shows and/or Humongous Mecha anime. Which was PARTLY why it seemed weird.

“It’s just clean, light-hearted fun” is the perfect description for Hunters and it’s why I enjoy the season so much. Honestly, the best part about Xros Wars was the Japanese soundtrack. Koji Wada always had the best songs.
"they just become a sword over and over again"
~Billiam, 2019
I mean ofc
I only liked xros war because of the hype crossovers...

The titanic Shoutmon X7 Superior Mode was super dope, yo.
Especially when you hear We are Xros Heart X7 in the background.
i think the big bad thing about digimon as a whole is how they ALWAYS try to reinvent the wheel, instead of going with what they already have (not to say that ALL of them were bad, but still): the weird cards they pushed through their digivices, them suddenly turning into digimon themselves, the need to punch the digimon was awkward, the fusion with their partners and then the fusion with about every digimon along their way.
but this is not only a problem with the tv series; they had this exact same problem in my opinion with their games. yes, there is a whole franchise called Digimon World - but the first one is nothing like the second, the third or any other sequel - in fact none of them are a sequel to the ones below it. instead sometime later there was a psp game that wasn't called digimon world anymore, but was like the first one and after that another one for the ps4 that had yet another name that was like these previous two. and even in these very similar games they added new things like all of a sudden you have two partner digimon which feel very awkward to control compared to the single digimon in OG digimon world - why don't you just roll with the original one, just add more partner digimon and a bigger city/story/skill tree to go along and call it a day...?
the third digimon world was also great, why don't you make an own series for that?
@@EnigmaRising yeah, their huge problem is the need to reinvent stuff, thats what Im saying too
You dont keep your fanbase if you keep changing everything, you do the exact opposite.
R8J8 I admitted liked Biomerge, because again, at least it’s better than being cheerleaders.
I don’t care what ANYONE says, I LOVED this show as a kid. Sad that not many episodes are archived nowadays.
Code lyoko
Why mention code lyoko?
Sprite Guy because billiam should talk abot that
agree
Hell yeah
That would be cool.
I grew up watching this show and in all honesty I enjoyed it I've never seen other Digimon seasons since I'm not that interested but I really enjoyed this show and still remember certain episodes
Digimon fusion was great ngl no hate for the ones who dont like it
I've tried to watch Fusion a few times, but I just couldn't do it. It just felt like it was aimed at younger kids than all the other Digimon series.
It lacked the substance and depth in characters to really draw you in. Say what you will about Fronteir and Data Squad but within the first few episodes you could see some depth in characters.
Eh, feel like that's debatable.
@@fightingmedialounge519 yeah I'd say my argument is a little weak with Data Squad. But I still feel it's objectively a better show then Fusion.
kids?? wasnt the original for kids if you actually watch the whole thing in sub and get further in the story it actually gets pretty dark just like the original
@@robloxsticknews1022 The problem is it took way too long to get to that point. And it kinda comes out of nowhere so it doesn't feel genuine.
I do like how the games seem to be continually localized now since Cyber Sleuth with the exception of mobile games
This was my favorite season as a kid. Don’t really know why, I just liked it more lol
God Hunter's crossover scene was so good
Love digimon so much! Took me a long time to power through the first season of fusion to get to the second season which was better. Terriermon will always be my favorite.
Every video your pet snake makes a cameo automatically becomes a great video. There. I said it.
The snake is the clearly the real protagonist of this video
