lol, Gene pretending Kiss was on top of the world at the time of Revenge, which is a good LP, but the fucking tour failed. The band ended up hawking their wares at conventions and pretending to get along with Ace and Peter to bring them back but .... they were already picking out flannel shirts and trying to be grunge until they scrapped Carnival of Souls because Kiss, 'true originals' who according to Paul and Gene always do what they want and set every trend wasn't relevant again until they put the make up back on with the original 4! All they did was follow every trend in the 80s and early 90s. And I like some of those records but they were just one of many bands that followed the heavy metal into power ballad/hair metal pattern of the time
Peter had his problems, as did Ace. But the biggest problem Kiss ever had was Paul and Gene. Egos beyond belief. If Ace and Peter started their own band I guarantee you they would have more hits and a larger following

Ace and Peter had issues with booze and drugs...They had years to pull it together and never really did...Ace did from time to time (His output since 09, since he cleaned up has been awesome) I've played in bands with addicts and it's a fucking nightmare. I've also taken gigs from addicts. And I've played with people with gigantic egos. That's a different kind of nightmare. But these people are often the ones driven enough to make it, and are often signing the cheques for working bassists like me who sit in on gigs or in the studio.
I was obsessed for Kiss in the past. Today they looks like mummies. Turning back the makeup again, after leaving it, Paul using playbacks on his vocal... only 4 dolls playing for teenages. I think I will not pay to see they again at stage, even in their last tour

Speccialy in Kiss case, wich is always claimming having "respect" for his fans. Peter Criss used to say that he would never make this kind of show if feeling too old for this - in fact he had used another words, not so kind... Have you watched the new "Gene Simmons Band"?. That´s perfect! No problem with aging or something... But the big shows like Kiss... I see no grace nowadays
Let's be honest about Eric Carr: I've never heard or read a bad word spoken about the guy, but KI$$ (i.e. Paul) wanted to replace him right after "Hot in the Shade" was done. Those two weren't talking at all. Now, I feel like when Eric got sick, Paul (and Gene to a lesser extent) was at a fork in the road: does he still replace Eric, or wait and see if he gets better? Well, we know which way Paul and Gene went. Being in KISS meant everything to Eric, and to be told he was fired gutted him. He had to beg to be in the "God Gave Rock n Roll To You II" video (according to Genes own book). Why would a guy that was still in the band need to beg? Genes rationale was, well he didn't play on the song. So fucking what? How many times did other people play on KI$$ songs, but the band members were still in the video? IMO, they treated the entire situation and Eric like garbage. I lost a lot of respect for the band after that deal (the rest of it left around 2003). Loved seeing them on the REAL "Farewell Tour" in 2000, but when the two imposters took over, I was done.
