I’d be interested to see EBS tests that were conducted between 1963 and 1977. I’ve always wondered how those may have sounded/been conducted differently than the ones we all know.
Most EBS tests prior to this point (afaik) didn't use the EBS attention tone, but rather were told to turn off their transmitter for 5 seconds, then on again, then off again, then on again. This is a practice from the CONELRAD days but wasn't replaced until midway through the EBS' lifespan.
@@nicco1690 Right, and after the off-on-off they would broadcast a 20-second 1000-Hz tone. There's a radio example here: ruclips.net/video/gbxnZIMWlRA/видео.html, starting at about 14:50. All you have to do to know what the TV version was like is to stare at the Civil Defense logo while the audio is playing.
I remember seeing an EBS test out of Oklahoma City (I’m pretty sure it was on KOCO-TV, Oklahoma’s ABC affiliate) that had a shaky pencil-like drawing of an open-mouthed soldier in a foxhole, wearing a doughboy-like helmet looking through a pair of binoculars. I was five or six at the time, so that would have been around 1988-1989. I only saw it once or twice and I even drew a picture of it, as I recall. What I wouldn’t give to see that EBS test card again!
Got to like those EBS slides with the Civil Defense logo!

Sadly I think most are lost to time.

The EBS became the EAS when I was born.

I remember too. I think I have it on a VHS. I will have to find it.
That would very cool if you had that! I’d love to see it again.
@@stevenharwood5362 I'll keep an eye out.

Still hoping to see ones from other stations in the Kansas City area in the early/mid 90s; I know one from KMBC channel 9 has been posted.
I remember here in the Augusta,GA Area had one one WJBF News Channel 6 ABC Affiliate!
I’m convinced they did this just to freak kids out late at night
