i laughed not because of Tamblot (who btw... that name brings back memories from childhood) being trans, but because a revolt being led by a trans babaylan is one of those moments that makes me think and feel "oh yes, that there is definitely a very Filipino moment right there. Made in the Philippines." That sorta thing isn't something I hear as often from other places as I do from the Philippines
We've long had this sort of kindness to letting such types of ppl live out their lives, something that has frequently intrigued and fascinated me abt the attitude of our ancestors on gender (I mean despite various societal problems rn there's a reason we're usually ranked as the most gender equal country in Asia.... (at least with the traditional male and female) and I'm willing to bet we're better at it than even the USA lmao)
Also, ngl but despite being (non-aligned and extremely non-religious) Christian, I would've rooted for Tamblot anyway, I hate the cultural amnesia the Spaniards have cursed us on XD

(But then again in all his overgeneralizing he prob still thinks we're part of Latin America for whatever weird reason, will prob just mistake our ancestors for being at the civilizational level of Native Americans again so eh)

We are really that ass-kissing colonized people if this is not going to be taught in schools for future generations.

Oh lord the denial of people indoctrinated by Christianity in the comments is appalling. Different tribes back then were always more progressive (and accepting of the local LGBTQ) until colonization destroyed local cultures that they're having revivalists only recently.
The destroying of cultures wasn't only in the Philippines and Africa, this includes Latin America as well. They have similar indigenous roots as us, with similar cultural patterns and the promotion of Western Christianity helped almost eradicate all that (blending Catholicism with local beliefs).
Also if you need sources, there's usually a lot in university libraries and online journals but some of them are hidden behind a paywall.

Tamblot (fl. 1621-1622) was the name given to a babaylan (a Visayan term for mediums and religious leaders in the Philippines' pre-colonial and early colonial periods) who incited a series of uprisings against Spanish colonial rule in the island of Bohol. Indigenous religions and beliefs played a huge part behind the revolts' inception as Roman Catholicism spread throughout the Philippine archipelago, a process which many of its inhabitants rejected in favor of their local customs. A few uprisings in the early colonial era such as this one were thus motivated in part by resistance against the presence of Christianity.

Tamblot successfully convinced parts of the Boholano population to revolt against the Spanish Empire, who held full dominion over the island, by informing the residents about a diwata-a localized term for a deity or god-who pledged to aid them in expelling Spain out of Bohol. Persuaded, people in most of the island's villages began to revolt and wreak havoc, gaining the attention of the nearby province of Cebu and its alcalde-mayor by the name of Don Juan Alcarazo. Some colonial sources explain that the diwata also promised to grant the Boholanos a joyous future in exchange for their servitude to and construction of a shrine dedicated to the deity in question, apart from their departure from Spain's religion and authority.
Alcarazo subsequently assembled his troops consisting of Spanish and Philippine soldiers then traveled to Bohol, leading the others through the thick, mountainous forests inland in pursuit of the rebels. The enemy forces eventually met, and a downpour of rain befell the battle scene. Tamblot and the other Boholanos interpreted the rainfall as the act of their diwata, whom they believed was sabotaging Alcarazo's troops and their weapons. However, his soldiers managed to push them back and cause them to retreat. Afterwards, the alcalde-mayor eventually quashed the revolt, killing and capturing many of its insurgents. Despite the victory, Alcarazo would have to put down more acts of civil unrest in the Pintados Islands[note 1] before peace in the region could be restored.

@@amazingplanetph808 Like I mentioned, our ancestors merely saw Him as a Babaylan, a category that transcends gender. Like other vloggers, this assertion was made solely to appease LGBT people or as a way to gain attention for this particular video. There is no other place to find a clear-cut "Tamblot is a Trans" like the host claimed. This is my only reply and I won't respond to the next person who will be offended by this comment since just they are a member of the LGBT community and won't make a convincing argument. @@yourdailykickofjokjok829 I can confirm that Kirby always back up his debate with proof and evidence so I would trust him to tell me Philippine history than some other Filipino guy who tells me our history that picked up only by some foreign vloggers or myth tales without proper schooling or digging deep into our history and create his or her own version of it. Kirby itself already proven his authenticity by publishing some books about our forgotten history.
Bakla are socially and economically integrated into Filipino society, having been accepted by society prior to Western colonization, many of which were held in high regard and performed the role of spiritual leaders known as babaylan, katalonan, and other shamans in pre-colonial Philippines. However, a minority group of Filipinos disapprove or reject the baklas, usually on religious grounds. The stereotype of a baklâ is a parlorista-a flamboyant, camp cross-dresser who works in a beauty salon; in reality, the bakla thrives in numerous sectors of society, from the lower to the upper levels.[7][8][9]
Asog shamans were leaders of several revolts against Spanish rule from the 17th century to the 18th century. Notable ones include the Tamblot uprising of Bohol in 1621-1622 and the Tapar rebellion in Panay in 1663.[49][50] Later rebellions in the 19th and 20th centuries were also led by male shamans. However, these later shamans (collectively known as the dios-dios, "god pretenders") followed syncretic Folk Catholicism, rather than pre-colonial anito shamanism. Though they still dressed as women in rituals, they were married to women and were unlikely to be homosexual.[37][51]
Feminized men were also persecuted harshly in the (then recently) Islamized ethnic groups in Mindanao. In Historia de las Islas de Mindanao, Iolo, y sus adyacentes (1667), the Spanish priest Francisco Combés records that their "unnatural crime" was punished by the Muslim peoples in Mindanao with death by burning or drowning, and that their houses and property were also burned as they believed that it was contagious.[15]

Commanded their dragons to attack the palace
In the climax of the battle, the ancestors
Of the transisus lived. Souls that fought, souls that stayed.
      Tamblot’s personification arrived
the babaylan**** that waged war against the cross
and sword of the Spaniards that arrived at their shores.
Carrying his bolo, lessons from 1624 echoed:
“We, the children of the rainbow, we like to live.
Live long. Now that there is a glimpse of hope,
A crack in their line, let us wage war!”
Homo transisus knows the true adversary,
      It’s not the mechanical perspectives
But those living up there in the shadow-sky

      * Tamblot- the first recorded babaylan who fought the Spaniards during 1621-1622. Organized his people of Bohol, Visaya, Philippines.
** According to Psychologist Graciela Balestra, Transgender people only live a lifespan of 32 years because of hate crime and societal stigma. *** Talahib- tall grass. Colloquially understood as a place where hook-ups happen.
**** babaylan- a pre-colonial Philippine village shaman. Usually recorded in the Visayas. In charge of aiding the spirits and the supernatural. Traditionally women, but men can also have the role, often dressing up as female. Current study shows that these men were not just cross-dresser but were actually transgenders.

Please don't use your platform to push the narrative that this is a trans revolt. Tamblot is a male babaylan yes.. in the old visayan time male babaylan are known as isog.. basically means males that are acting more like females. If you really want an equivalent of them in today's time. In my opinion tamblot is considered more of a gay man, than a trans. Even the depiction of him during the revolt is him wearing the male babaylan clothes. He is not cross dressing.

Every morning and evening I burn incense and give offerings to my Bisayan and Ilokano ancestors along with prayers for guidance; Tamblot’s revolt was not a total failure lol.
And I like how the Tamblot revolt is another example of Spanish colonial military being unable to function or complete any objectives without Indio auxiliary assistance.
It’s like every revolt was not even put down by the Spanish but by loyal Indios; showing where the real powers were.

Trans people are considered to be a blessing or a miracles. In Austronesian culture, the priest are mostly trans or transvestites. Even in Javanese kingdoms, especially in Hindu-Buddhist era, they serve at the palace because they are believed to have supernatural powers or spiritual powers.

I think this is shifting the definition of trans-gender a bit too much. For one, you don't ritually become a transgender as you ritually become Bayugin. You were always a man but were born in a female body, for lack of a better phrase, "male brain in female body" this is different from going through a process to become a Bayugin as a man.
Also, your stuff with pronouns, I have nothing to indicate something like that would have actually happened. Yes, pronouns don't exist and yes, they were counted as among the women in social but would have still been recognized as male even if as a priestess, a male priestess.
