  • What does it take for a family of four to move out of their home? It's an exercise in minimalism and a whole lot of cleaning, with some high emotions thrown in the mix. See what happens as we prepare to set off into the world-will we get it all done in time?
    Who are we?
    We are Slowsteading, a formerly homesteading family of four embarking on a journey to explore alternative ways of living. We are challenging conventions about what a family needs to thrive, exploring ideas of minimalism, slow living, and location independence.
    Why are we leaving this homestead? See our last video here:

    I can so relate to this. I left the corporate world and all it's cozy luxuries, traveled the world a bit and finally began homesteading in eastern Colorado in 2017. It was heavenly. But then word got out about this great state, and it's completely changed. It was quiet with dark nights perfect for stargazing and relaxing. More people, new personalities, lights everywhere, less friendly. At the same time, I've been offered an opportunity to homestead in North Carolina. So I'm heading there in less than a week to check it out. It may be time to pass on my Colorado heaven to another adventurer and write the next chapter of my very blessed life. I don't know the details, but I know the future will be great. Best wishes to you and your family, thank you for sharing your journey with us. Looking forward to seeing your paths unfold.

      My friends daughter moved to Colorado in 2009. She loved it and called it home. Then, Marijuana became legal. The homeless population grew along with crime. She no longer felt safe and eventually moved out of the state. Democratic policies always lead to hellish living conditions

    Almost 1 year ago we left our very rooted world in San Diego and moved to Springfield Missouri. We bought property to homestead but plan on doing it over the course of several years as we have teenage daughters now who don't want to live in the sticks. Ironically I had chickens, goats, canaries, cats, and a dog in So Cal. I do miss the animals in some ways but I understand wanting to take a break. It's a lot of work! I think it's smart to go adventure now. Go now while your kid's life revolves around you. I look forward to seeing more of your adventure. Good Luck!

    This is why we’re meant to live in communities. Homesteading is a lot of work if you’re just doing it for/with a nuclear family and half of your people are kiddos. You can’t get away, or work, or travel, because maintenance is a full time job. But we’re not meant to be fully self sufficient in nuclear bubbles. That’s why we had villages sharing the work and the rewards. The butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker.

    • @Slowsteading
      @Slowsteading  Год назад +42

      Juvenile fantasy? You're so rude. Learning how to grow food and raise everything you eat is a waste? Acknowledging and respecting what had to happen for food to show up on your plate is also a juvenile fantasy and waste of money? What exactly is the "correct" way to spend one's hard-earned money? And as far as money goes, what others do with theirs is none of your business.

    • @AM-tc9ct
      @AM-tc9ct Год назад +12

      That’s not a very nice comment. Sad that you can’t recognize an effort, and then that a family recognized a need for a new direction for their family’s needs. Perhaps instead of looking at it as juvenile, you could see it as mature for recognizing their family needs to thrive. I’m positive that they’ve gained a lot from their experiences. And their kids may have great memories as well. I also appreciate that they’re willing to be publicly honest with what didn’t work. Not many people do that, so imagine it’s helpful for others to see. Not juvenile in the least.
