- Minami is a small fishing town on Shikoku, the smallest of Japan's four main islands. I learned a lot from my time there: what an ocean nostril looks like, what makes a delicious meal (pretty much everything from the sea), and the secret to living a meaningful life.
Thank you to Tokushima no Migishita for sharing this experience with me:

you're a great story teller. please keep making videos. i'm looking forward to visiting japan next summer.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hope you enjoy your time in Japan, it is a beautiful country 🥰
So cool to see a completely different way of life. The residents of that tiny island seem pretty content.
Yeah they really are an inspiration. Sometimes it really is better to want what you got (deeper lessons for me here I'm sure 😂😂)
This is a lovely episode!
Thanks Jeremy! It's a beautiful town!
This video is a gift. I feel better just watching it. I suddenly want to buy an abandoned house on a small island in the Inland Sea. I hope you keep making videos like this. You capture what travel (and living) in Japan is all about.
Ha thanks! The cohesion is so strong amongst the residents here (it has to be, for survival) so you'd really want to integrate with the community.
We did in fact run into one old guy who voiced his displeasure at the sight of a bunch of gaijin walking around his town. Fair enough, I mean it makes sense to be wary of outsiders. But I guess grumpy people are going to exist everywhere 😂
Beautiful video, thank you.
Thanks for watching! I've been loving your series on your kominka process as well 🙏
@@Slowsteading thank you! :)
Another underrated youtuber
Ahh that means a lot! Thanks so much for being here ☺️
What do you think about the Loggerhead sea turtles at 4:27, do those tanks looks big enough?
No. No it's not. See also: the dolphin pools in my small town on Shikoku that were crushingly small. Japan and "animal welfare" are not exactly synonymous.
Didn't you have a wife and kids?
Still do! 😂😂 They didn't join me this particular side trip 👌
Disturbing video. Sad how they cook the shellfish while it's still living (and moving). Couldn't be bothered to put them out of their misery first. And the magnificent sea turtle stuck in the grimy bathtub? That's not a research project, it's a tourist trap zoo.
